Ah, no, It's not a problem, It's about forming a library of books that you might like to read... later, perhaps. Unluckily my reading speed slowed down in the last two decades because of time wasted on the internet, and I did some math and found out, that to read all my unread books - (in the place I live in, mind without the books at my parent's flat) at the current speed (only 16 books a year) I should have started in the year 217 before Christ... that was such a shock, that I had to calm down... by buying 50 more new books... 0.o

My book collection is a little out of control, but I'm at peace with it. My mother--in-law, who loves to read, told me recently, "All you really need is the next book you're going to read." My husband said, "Give it up, Mom. That ship has sailed." LOL

I’m the same way about buying books. I’ve been buying books for so long that I may never be able to finish them all. But buying them is part of the fun. I have trouble buying just one at a time at a bookstore or even online. I’ve started to slow down a bit because I’m pretty much out of shelf space and room for more shelves. I recently went through them to try to unhaul as many as possible to Goodwill and the library. Tough to do but I found quite a few that didn’t really have any special meaning to me. Anyway, I totally get the book addiction:)

Great collection. I am not huge into Fantasy, more Crime Fiction but when a collection such as yours appears I can see the reason for collecting original print editions. Just holding and smelling a book is great preparation to read. I have a problem with book collecting and that is not enough time to read. Way to many books with more added every month. One other issue I have that produces belly laughs from my family is that I have to read serials in order. Book 1.....and so on. This is okay with Crime Fiction which tend to be of it's own size and word count. But Fantasy and Horror lend themselves to huge tombs and so many parts to a continued serial. Can be very daunting and intimidating sometimes. All that aside I am just a book lover who loves a good story no matter what genre or pigeon hole it comes filed under. Thanks for the 2 part book shelf tour.

It's because of you I finally picked up The Eye of the World. Still reading it and omg I now have to read them all! I'm on a re-read of all Robin Hobb again as I'm a huge fan. I also love Anne Rice, the last couple of books to me seem to have gotten better again as I've really enjoyed them. You also make me want to go back to back to Stephen King again...apart from The Dark Tower series, I couldn't even finish the first one of those. I think that was the reason I sort of stopped reading him but I'd want to go back right to the beginning again and start from his first book as it's been quite a few years now! So many good books, so little time!! Thanks for your great channel it's so nice watching a channel that has so many similar tastes to mine.

In my first ASOIAF-Experience I was a victim of the german translation. Because german words and sentences are far longer even the first book had two volumes. - And so the 'first book' in german ends at a completely uninteresting place half way through the book. - And my thought was... yeah, I see: lots of stoopid teenage-girls growing up... reads to me like just another Darkover fanfiction... and since Darkover and its many fanfiction-stories by then started to bore me too, I thought: well, there is absolutely no reason to buy book two of that one... - oops. Then I watched the show's 1st season... What!? Sean Bean just got KILLED!?

Great collection. I have John Gwynne's A Time of Blood all lined up to read when I have finished The Shadow of What Was Lost (which I am half way through). Then when I've read those I want to do a reread of the Dresden Files (yes all of them) so I am totally immersed again in the world ready for the next 2 books (it's been a long time since I read them so I do need to refresh). And what with the next Abercrombie book coming out later this year all I can say is roll on the autumn 😀

Great video and beautiful collection. Want to say I found your channel just a few weeks back and I find you to be just the best booktuber out there overall. I appreciate the breadth of stuff you’ve read (and being a little older helps have more perspective than some of the 24 year olds making videos). Love the enthusiasm and keep it up. I’ve started bulking up my collection and might be on the verge of developing a problem but you have us all beat. One side note, I think I may be the only person on the internet who read first law and thought “meh”. Characters were great but the theme of the books was everyone is miserable and at the end they stay miserable in different ways. Just felt like there was lack of plot to hold my interest in the last one. And I don’t mind grim. ASOIAF is my favorite series and they don’t pull punches in that one.

Oh, I have book envy. I never established my library because I move around a bit. I like traveling light. But, if there's an afterlife, I'd have an awesome library of my own. I understand it's the writing, not the physical shell, that ultimately matters - but the physical can be a work of art. So, until better days, I live vicariously through seeing other people's libraries.

I know you plan put your reading lists, but if you get a chance, squeeze in A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny. It's so much fun. You've got characters like Larry Talbot, the Mad Monk, the mysterious Jack, the Great Detective and others preparing to duke it out over opening or closing the gates to some Lovecraftian monsters at Halloween. It's a fairly short book and is also a fun listen if you can find it on audiobook--someone usually has it on KZbin.

I actually just found the Thrawn trilogy at my used bookstore. It was my favorite when I read it in high school. I agree with the idea of the "Legends" Canon is just ridiculous. However, I am tempted to read the new Thrawn trilogy that Timothy Zahn wrote to bring Thrawn into the new canon. Nice Shelves. I always want to do lovely hardback books and then I have to remind myself over and over that I need paperbacks to fit in all the tight spaces around my bookshelves as if they were actually on them.

I have a whole box of those LOTR bookmarks. Books A Million had SO many, right before the first movie came out and they were so beautiful and I bought as many as I could. They were released in cycles. First there were the main characters for Fellowship and later there were ones with Arwen and Galadrial and Gandalf the White and Aragorn as King of Gondor. There were some nice ones for the first Narnia movie too, and before that, there were some really nice Harry Potter bookmarks. I wish I had gotten more of those, but money was tight. They just don't make things like that any more.

Loved watching both these videos; it's always nice to get a little context around the books on people's shelves. It's disappointing to hear that the Red Rising videos didn't fare as well, because it would be nice to see more people talk about these books. I had really mixed feelings about book 5 (writing, plotting, and world building seem to be getting better with each publication, but for me the pacing was erratic), but would love to hear other opinions.

Cool video 😃 you have a great taste. I love wheel of time as well its one of the greatest fantasy stories ever told. Red Rising and John Gwynne books are one of my all time favorites too and I agree with u, lightbringer has one of the best magic systems ever. Iam currently at book 4 from malazan (which is technically book 3 but in German the books got split in half) and it is phenomenal good I hope u enjoy it. If I may recommend a series to you I think Powder Mage series from Brian McClellan is awesome and u might like it. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪😊 thanks for the great content I really enjoy ur videos and recommendations

Finished Carrie today and going to continue the King train with Salems lot :) I’ve had one question here at 6:35 you talk about “the best magic system” not written by Brandon Sanderson, what series of Brandon did you mean in particularly? I’m really eager to try some good magic driven fantasy! I want to spread my reading horizon thanks for the info! P.S. thanks for accepting my GoodReads request you got allot of good material in there :D

Wish you did a review of Star Wars Darth Plagueus. Its not only a good star wars book but a good science fiction book period. It give such a fascinating insight into the minds of the sith and the path of the dark side. This book has more lore then any Star wars film. Certainly million times more than the cursed sequels. I guarantee anyone who gives it a chance will appreciate it. I just can't understand how they can disregard such a gem of a book as not being "canon"

Just to clarify, Disney is in fact pulling stuff from the EU. It's not completely scrapped. And the current canon is really quite amazing. I have several recommendations if you're interested.

@@mikesbookreviews I highly recommend it if you find the time; it's my favourite book series of all time. Daniel Greene recently did a 'Before You Read' video for Discworld which gives some good advice on where to start the series; many people will tell you that starting with book 1 isn't necessarily the best place to start. They are all pretty quick reads too; you can easily burn through them as quick as or even quicker than with Dresden Files books which is just as well as there's 41 of them 😅
