Hi Emily! Love your videos! I am a board certified doctor and just wanted to clear up this "gut-lining" being a second brain. Our gut is basically one giant neuron-filled network and it indeed has an incredible effect on how we react to things, how we think about things, how we digest our food, what we crave for when we are lacking. It is entirely plausible to say that the gut "knows" best sometimes, it literally does. This is not a myth but a not well understood concept that needs much more research of course. One terrifying example of how closely related our brain and gut-neurons are, are the fact that we can get many forms of Prion disease from stool-transplants (yes, that is a thing). So don't dismiss it, it is in actuality a thing!

so with you on the self help BS. i think the difference is like a therapist/doctor/scholar writing vs a “coach” or something just giving personal anecdotes and “words of wisdom”. like i don’t need that i need science backed research!

Just a note : you can actually make a formal/official complain about your doctor to the Collège des Médecins. It doesn't have to be a crazy angry thing, you can just politely point out that you're not being listened to the way you should, or not getting the treatment you need, etc.

Hey Emily , last November I did an endoscopy as I had stomach ache and there was nothing bad -just inflammation and this year I had a foot surgery and I am healing . So sister to sister❤ ,This too shall pass. give your body its time to recover and heal and be patient .I can’t wait for next year to get stronger.

Hi Emily, I don't know where that author was getting at with the GI tract information, but from the research I have done my understanding is that the gut feeling is in fact a result of the gut-brain connection. The GI is an essential part of the nervous system, that's why it's called the enteric nervous system or second brain. It contains sheaths of neurons embedded in the walls -small number but still significant -100 million neurons compared to the 86 billion in the brain. Fun fact, the heart also has neurons! One of the most significant aspects of the gut-brain axis is something called the HPA which is in charge of the stress response. The stress response is an automatic and *instinctual* process, so maybe that's what she meant to say in the paragraph you shared. I am not a medical professional, just someone with severe health issues so I had to educate myself.

Oh he was trying to cuddle everyone so I don’t think he was too anxious. Tbf be was outside for who knows how long before I took him in. All my neighbours have pictures with him from his “before” life 😂

A colonoscopy isn't so bad, the prep is the worst part usually. Just get a lot of gatorade (light colors, yellow, clear, white are best, avoid red and blue) and clear soda, broth, and tea to rehydrate. The prep *really* dehydrates you and you have stay hydrated or they can't get an IV started.

Same. For me, the entire process was fine, even the prep (chill that prep mixture!). Went through colonoscopy and gastroscopy both. Also remember to only consume low fibre foods (no seeds, nuts, bran, brown bread etc.) for 2-3 days before the procedure so that the clearing of your gut is easier. And use baby bum cream 😅 Definitely don't mind going through them again, had a great doctor and no pain issues after at all.

I loved All the Colors of the Dark. It was difficult at times, but that made it good. What did you think of the ending? Did Saint get a happy ending? And how about We Solve Murders, much lighter and fun. It had a good ending, even for Trouble the cat, since he and the neighbor Margaret were in love with each other, funny. I just finished The Wedding People and loved that one. Have you read it yet? I've had 3 colonoscopies so far in my life. It's great when the prep is over. I have a syndrome that calls for frequent testing. Hope that things improve for you. We love you Emily.

Sometimes you can see the Aurora with the naked eye-- *however* that's rare, our eyes don't see color very well in the dark, the best way to "see" it is by taking pictures. I was very lucky and got to see some in the Arctic, and it was tough to see *color* without a camera.

edit: yes, all Janice Hallett’s books are mixed media. but they’re all different in one way or another. haven’t watched the video yet because i have therapy in like one minute, but about The Appeal: yes part of the mystery is who died. i didn’t know that and was not prepared and found it boring. that’s the author’s style. but i can tell you, you having liked it or not (i’ll find out after therapy lol) every single book from Janice Hallett gets better as they go. just so you know.

I love how you just have a bunch of cats that genuinely enjoy your company. Mine has lived here 10 years, since she was small enough to sit in my shoe, and she'd rather get a colonoscopy than let me pet her. A horror book you should try is the house of leaves by Mark Danelewski. It’s not a new release, but it’s written with different media way and in your have been liking that. I can’t tell you much about it, but read with lala loved it.

I also did a colonoscopy recently and the preparation is shitty (pun not intended). Can't you ask it to be with anesthesia? I did it that way and was good. Gave me the injection, slept through it. Lasted 20 min. If it is possible there in Canada i adviced to get it that way (and if you don't have health problems that make anesthesia impossible/difficult).

Some self help books I've tried out had some conspiracy beliefs, mixed in some toxic positivity and some comments on how disabilities only exist because our world is tainted (basically talking about sin in concealed language). Then I looked up the author and found they were a particular type of American Christian. There was the hint with the toxic positivity and 'how you just don't believe enough' and how you should only think positive thoughts given as the reason why some people have autism/adhd/depression/eating disorders (because they don't try hard enough and are lazy...).

I did enjoy All the Colors of the Dark but I did have some issues with it. It's one of those books that I initially gave 4 stars to because of how hard it was to put down once I started it but then when I finished, couldn't stop thinking about...in a negative way. It really bothers me that 3 of the main female characters (and they're basically side characters to boot) all revolve around Patch. It's like their lives don't exist except in the context of being in love with Patch. It ended up feeling like a wish fulfillment fantasy written by a straight white male author. Saint and Misty exist only to revolve around Patch and then the other one at the end....

The idea of a Colonoscopy is worse than the actual experience. You count back from 100 and then wake up in another room. Ive had GI issues and had to have a Colonoscopy and an EGD (going in the other way). I hope you get answers. I unfortunately didn't. 😕 Simone St James - I am working my way through her books. I finished The Broken Girls last night. You are right, The Sun Down Motel has been the best so far. I'm going to recommend Julia Haeberlin again. I've really like her. Hope you're feeling better.

Hope you can get the kittens ears taken care of, my dog gets chronic ear infections and they've cost me many thousands of dollars over the years. There have been times when I had to say "yeah I'm back... it's the ears again". I hope your health improves, I was really hopeful bc you seemed to be doing so much better.

There is actual science behind gut feelings, as the gut is often called the "second brain" due to the communication between the gut and brain via the gut-brain axis. The gut produces neurotransmitters like serotonin, which influences mood and emotions. However, in my opinion, gut feelings are more often tied to paranoia or misleading emotions rather than logical intuition.
