Hi! I just watched some of your old videos and you recommended The Test as the book that fans of Black Mirror might like. I thought that you might want to check out QualityLand by Marc-Uwe Kling! It's by german author and not that popular, there are some weird parts that weren't perfect for me, but overall it's a fun view on the life with technology- as in Black Mirror, sometimes it's really scary that the scenarios are not that unbelievable.. Also, I am in a reading slump and that was a book that made it a bit better!

The "up and down" nature of 2001 is probably largely due to it being a sort of "fix-up novel"...with elements taken from older Clarke short stories. Although you could say the film is equally disjointed in a sense, I feel that may be a rare case of a film outdoing its literary source in many ways -- though as book and film were developed together, this is a different case than usual. I just discovered your channel. I recently discovered there's a wealth of book-talk content on youtube and it's been an interesting journey so far. I have not read many of the books I've heard you talk about so far, but I enjoy your relaxed and thoughtful style of presentation.

I just finished Children of Ruin today. I definitely enjoyed it, but I still think the first book is better. I gave it 4 stars, my only problem is that the ending felt pretty rushed & convenient, I didn't mind that it was very similar to book one just with octopuses instead of spiders.

My Pile of Shame consists of the priory of the orange tree, which I started back in March and stopped for a readathon and never picked it back up again but I did enjoy it, though I think at this point I need to start over again because I forgot like everything... and Wheel of Time Book 7, but I needed something that wouldn't infuriate me with its bad relationships all the time so I stopped for a while, will pick it back up soon. I think that is still ok.
@alb0zfinest4 жыл бұрын
Having just finished the last book of The Wheel of Time, I genuinely advise you to stop reading it. The writing quality only gets worse and worse to the point where it feels like a stockholm syndrome relationship. I only continued because I was promised a fantastic and amazing ending and honestly it was just ok. Sanderson’s writing style is so cringe and YA that it ruined so much. Every character practically is s shadow of his/her former self, and there are 4 books where absolutely nothing happens (8-11). Please, spare yourself all that time. I literally listened to it on audiobook (when I typically like to take my time on a paperback) and I had to continue forcing myself.

@bookishpothos76494 жыл бұрын
Woohoo, you _finally_ went on an adventure! Shame it ended in disappointment for you. I'm one of the weird ones who liked Ruin more than Time. There are dozens of us! While Time was overall the much more polished book I was never enamoured with the human perspective (and I had previously read Dragon's Egg which has the same concept so CoT's premise wasn't all that novel for me going in) so the much darker atmosphere that Ruin gave the human side made it a much more engaging read for me, enough to forgive the issues it had and prefer it over the original. Stories aside which did you end up liking more; 🕷️ or 🐙?
@biankatoth17864 жыл бұрын
I probably didn't like because of this. I hate spiders but I got to love them in the first book, it was an interesting concept about their evolution. I didn't really care about the octopuses though and I got confused sometimes about the timeline.
