I'm with you on exercising! Surprisingly, because of quarantine I started to exercise more - biking daily, yoga, rolerskating, because (a) it helps me to keep my sanity and (b) it makes me feel like I'm in control - I can't go many places, meet my friends, travel, ect. But! I can exercise and strengthen my body and it feels nice!

I listened to the audio book of This Is How You Lose The Time War and it was just so utterly beautiful. I was lost at first because the writing style was so flowery and poetic, it took me a second to understand what was going on (I heard somewhere that it's actually a prose poem?). And suddenly I started bawling my eyes out 😂🤣. Every interaction is so full of passion and love and yearning, just wow. 100/10 🏳️🌈. It's definitely not for everyone, you probably would need to like weird / confusing / deep™️ (/ pretentious) books to enjoy it...

To be taught if fortunate was one of my favorite books in 2019! I even cried at the end I loved it so much. I felt the same way about This Is How You Lose the Time War. I really wish I liked it more, but I may reread it down the road.

I finished "To Be Taught If Fortunate" last week and it was wonderful! It was what I wanted every fictional book about scientists to be - how they work, how they perceive the purpose of their work, humility and gratitude they feel about their mission and its role for humanity. I wish more authors wrote like that!

Just finished To be Taught If Fortunate and I really liked it too. The characters are wonderful and I loved the story. I thought the ending was fantastic and a very clever way to finish. I would love to read more find out what happens next but it was so good. I tend to enjoy character driven stories more and Becky Chambers characterisation is just so good!

I’ve separated my shelves into sections - sci-fi, fantasy, general fiction (including contemporary, romance etc), YA (all genres), classics, foreign languages (in my case, all my Russian books; and you can do French for yours) and non-fiction. This way, it’s easy for me to find any book quickly. Maybe you can try it, if that helps? :) ❤️

I think This Is How You Lose The Time War is a really special book. It's definetly not for everybody. If you're looking for a love story, sci-fi, time travelling, a tragedy, you've come to the right book. But if you're looking for world building, satisfying relationships, any explanations or just... structure, you won't be satisfied. I think when you finish the book, you need to understand that it was meant to be the way it is. Anything is possible in love and war ...and sci-fi and time travelling. The fact is, books don't have to have rules or limits. And this one has none; it is just something that is not describable, but rather consumable. And when you put it like that, I think we can all picture it as a speck of gold amongst million grains of sand in a beach called literature.

This is How You Lose the Time War went on my TBR after scooping up the Nebula, Hugo and Locus awards this year for best novella but now I'm thinking maybe I should read To Be Taught, If Fortunate first. Decisions, decisions... well they're both short so probably shouldn't think too much into it and just pick one at random. Gideon was my in my June reads, I thought it was an absolute blast, so much fun, though in retrospect I probably should have put it off till August so I didn't have to kill myself waiting for the sequel to come out. 😣 I hear quite a few reviewers bring up comparisons with Nevernight which you're nuts over so I'm eager to hear what you make of Gideon. Also, my heart goes out for Steve, I hope the cat hasn't got him!
@BookswithEmilyFox4 жыл бұрын
Becky Chambers first for sure! I'm so happy to hear about Gideon, I need to get to it this year! I haven't seen much of Steve lately... probably too warm for him

I'm in an exercise slump and have read a lot of books instead. :) I loved this video and I started giggling when you were giggling. When you were rearranging and showed Dune I was thinking of how you didn't like it but you have such a nice copy. Maybe you could do a giveaway of it, some type of contest like best comment regarding Dune, or "why I should get the copy of Dune." I bet you could get some funny replies for that. I haven't read it and always thought I should, but probably wouldn't like it. After your review I feel like I probably will skip it. I think I'll read 2001 instead, which I've seen the film of about 8 times and LOVE it. Have you ever watched it? The cinematography is amazing although the pace is a bit slow.
@ammalyrical56464 жыл бұрын
There is actually a gay character in The Way of Kings, but you won't know until Oathbringer who it is. So I guess there's no rep that's blatant on the page. I don't consider this a spoiler, sorry if anyone does, but this tells you nothing. Now that I start talking and thinking more about Sanderson's books I do feel like he includes sexual and genders things outside of sis + straight simply because he knows people want it. He said he can't write a homoromantic relationship because he doesn't know how it feels, which seems like such a cop-out, especially with the way he world-builds in his books and especially Stormlight.
