'you' was one of my favourite books of last year, literally just picked up the second book yesterday, i've heard a lot of people say they didn't like it as much but i just love reading from joe's point of view so even if the story ends up being a flop it will at least be a good laugh i find him so sarcastic and funny

I totally understand what you mean about re-reading Harry Potter in english... I used to read for fun just in Spanish until the beginning of this year when I started buying books in English (they're cheaper and I can find more titles) but they dont feel as personal as they did in Spanish. Hopefully that will change the more books I read. Its only November but I cant wait to see your 2O16 favorite reads. 🙌🏼

I read Harry Potter for the first time this year. I'm reading them in French first as it's not my native language, then in English just to make sure I understand everything perfectly lol. I hope I'm not missing out on too much of the wordplay in French, as my vocabulary is obviously more limited. I'll be starting Philosopher's Stone in English soon so I'll see if I notice any differences! P.S. Em, I watched your beauty channel for ages but had to unsubscribe a couple months ago during a huge beauty unfollow, as seeing so many reviews and products online made me constantly want to buy makeup (you especially seemed to always review EXACTLY the products I was interested in which was great for my beauty knowledge but bad for my bank account lol). I was so sad to go because your channel was one of my absolute favourites, your reviews were so honest and thorough. I just randomly came across this channel and I'm so excited to be watching you again, and reading is the habit I'm always happy to have people encourage so I won't be leaving any time soon! One day when I master self-control I'll resubscribe to the beauty channel ;). Tu m'as manqué!

I read Dark Matter in October as well and I loooooved it. I'm yet to read a V. E. Schwab book but you love her so much that I'm excited to check her out. I read bird box but I didn't really find it that scary. I enjoyed it a lot though. I tried reading 'You' but I didn't finish it. Wasn't enjoying it. And of course we know I absolutely loved A Monster Calls. Great wrap up. I always love your videos and looooove the makeup look :)

SPOILERS for bird box**** I was definitely nervous when there was the man on the river and the idea that the guy could see her and that he was so unstable even if he didn't kill himself after seeing "them". Also the details at the end about how people used to get their eyes removed... wow...

I can't remember if in one of your million book haul videos, if you got the thousandth floor!? I recommend it. I just started it today. I've only seen it on KZbin maybe two or three times but so far I'm loving it. I'm new to YA and book tube. Since book tube seems to be a ton of YA, I started buying tons of books and like you, haven't read most of them. Trying!!!! I did read the 13 reasons why. This is going to sound awful bc it's a sad, real, and tough topic, but at age 37,i couldn't help but feel like there was a lot of whining. High scope was hard, no doubt but.... I don't know. Maybe I'm too old for some of them? I'm the one who also didn't like at the end of the ocean. And never read all of the books im most excited about so when I finished the 2nd series of unfortunate events today, I started the thousandth floor and it is one ive been dying to read so here's to reading all of the ones I anticipate!!!
@BookswithEmilyFox7 жыл бұрын
See there's no way of talking about it without sounding mean but that's why I removed a star. I overall enjoyed it but I did feel like the girl was ... idk she made it worse for herself and kinda went too far fort what it was... @Mari-Yama4 жыл бұрын
I absolutely love Annihilation! So far, it's my favorite book of the year. For me, it all made sense, it didn't leave me guessing too much. Spoiler** In my opinion, I think the main point of this series is the not knowing and trying to understand the unknown. I think it was Stephen Hawking (or was it Neil?) that brought up the idea that if a being is able to interstellar travel to our planet, that said being would be so far advanced than we are that it would be like ants trying to figure out what humans are. Would we even know if we are being invaded? What could an invasion by these far superior beings look like to us? I think this is the idea that the author is trying to express in this series.

I don't like The Ocean at the End of the Lane either. I have read of couple of Neil Gaiman and I don't find them as great as people seem to think they are. And I always have major make-up envy over your lipstick choices!

I've read the first 2 books in the Southern Reach trilogy and then I had to stop. The first one is way better than the second one, which is called Authority. We do get some answers about what happened in the first one and some hints about what exactly is going on in Area X, but Authority was SO. BORING. It's like twice as long as Annihilation and is just so dry and blah. At least in my opinion. I do have the last one, Acceptance, but I haven't read it, even though Authority left off on quite the cliffhanger. In my opinion if you did not like Annihilation I would definitely not continue because Authority is way worse.

That's funny, I really did not like The Girl on the train :( At the middle of it I got so bored I put it down and stoped reading it for a while. Eventually i finished it and I was not impressed by the end, even though it was way better than the rest of the book, a little rushed in my opinion but that's me being picky :p On another note, I would love it if you could give some advice on getting to read in english ! I'm french and I find it quite hard to understand everything when reading an english book. How did you do when you started ? What first books in english would you recommend to get used to it ? Thank you Emily ! Plein de bisous ma belle ! ;)

HelloCocoon I'm not native English speaker ether, but when I started to read on English it was hard. If you don't know one or two word, try to connect then with the rest of a sentence, and I also wrote in one notebook all word I don't understand and find them in dictionary. I wish you good luck with reading😊❤

My advise in starting with books in english is reading something you're already familiar with. Choose one of your favorite books and, as you get used to reading, expand. Also, dictionaries while reading are very useful!

I read Dark Places a couple of years ago right after I read Gone Girl and I wasn't too sure how I felt about it. She has a very specific type of writing that reading one book after the other probably wasn't the best. She loves to put twists in her books that's for sure lol. It was good but not something I'd highly recommend and for some reason I remember feeling drained sometimes when I'd read it if that makes sense. It was a long time ago so I can't remember it that crystal clear... I do know I liked Gone Girl better though. I've been wanting to read Thirteen Reasons Why for awhile now but I feel like I need to be in the right frame of mind since it deals with suicide. Is it really heavy in your opinion?
@BookswithEmilyFox7 жыл бұрын
She definitely knows how to write dark books! To be honest although it is about suicide and it does make you feel a lot... since it's so fast past and almost a bit of a thriller it's not "that heavy" if that makes sense!
