I only have two channels that are my GO TO's, and this is absolutely one of them. So simply explained, and concise. Adding the boomerang to my repertoire. THANK YOU.

I swear, your scratches sound cleaner than anyone else's I've seen on youtube!! It must be your natural style or something, but I hope you post up some more tutorials, I've had a great time learning from you!!

@studioscratches I remember learning the transform back in 1986 when djs were scratching(!) their heads as to how it was achieved. I worked it out myself by trial and error but gave up the decks in 1990 after I thought that the transform was the pinnacle of scratches and I was getting bored with it all! I'm having a bit of fun with it all again as there seem to be quite a few new techniques and it is as addictive as ever! I think the boomberang scratch is possibly around 2000-2007 maybe.

Esteemed DJ Short-e! I have been workin'on BoomerangS ever since the semester got out! They are comin'! I have a hard time gettin'that 2nd click on the last triplet w.consistency! Slow, but sure! Your Scratch Tutorials are über-articulate and super-friendly to the beginning DJ. I have learned sooo much from You an'have put it into Practice. Real Practice! ;-) much Love an'Peace be unto You, Em!

I have been a hamster dj since I started back in 1990 (set my stuff up wrong like most others did) glad to see someone else offering up tutorials other than q-bert (not denying his dopeness y'all) after watching countless boomerang tutorials, I was able to teach myself this in a few minutes, I had the first part, but the reverse was tough to understand a bit...I got the rhythm now, just need to bring my speed up, nice break down and explanation, thank you!

Weird, I was unaware this scratch had a name AND was considered a technique. I always called it my lazy scratch, something I did when I was too stoned to bother keeping a true controlled technique...no lie!

Your funny! Yeah and I can do all these scratches when I was born!!!
@buster1981111 жыл бұрын
i'm happy with that to be honest, i've been practising for a couple of months and taught my left hand to actually move the record and the mixer was holding me back from getting any better (excuse) but if i go off hammering it this year at least i can tell myself it's possible to get to a reasonable standard, i'll be happy with mastering a few of the scratches but i'm a long long way from getting the whole game mastered, thanks for your feedback by the way it's going to help me.

hi, nice videos thank you they are very helpful, got two questions pleaase, im attempting to start scratching and going for the left hand on record and right on crossfader but im right handed and my left hand is slightly spastic so should i try the other way round? and whatsup with your crossfader why is it the wrong way round is that just preference? thanks!

Would you be able to post a video of the many cuts and scratches you know? I was wondering if i could use them, to try and incorporate them into some songs that i am trying to write. Not like anything specific just acappella scratches that i would be able to cut and put into riffs and stuff. I am not really a dj or anything and finding sample and sfx are harder than i thought.

Thanks Sergio, it's almost the same scratch but with a pause in the middle and starting later in the pattern at an open fader part. All my current new tutorials are inside my www.schoolofscratch.com and it's on the list of upcoming tutorials in there. Thanks for watching and glad you are learning!

well let the info poor in i can send u a few of my sessions that i have played. soca and reggae are the genre's i indulge in. hip hop or old school is another quest i would love to conquer. thanks for answering my question and taking the time to explain. as far as purchasing equipment if u were into cdj's could u recommend a pair or a mixer, the rane is a expensive but am sure u need the best to become the best.

Awesome DJ Shortee, great explanation of this skratch, this is alot easier than I thought it was, no shit.... Ive been working on my chirps, & transformers, & also my crabs, as well. This just makes things more interesting, cause ive also been practicing my 1 click flare combo, & two click flare combo's. So, now I can throw some Boomerangs into the mix, & see how it goes with the session now..... 👍👊💪🙏😎

Finally getting the speed up with this now - do you feel more like you're clicking the fader closed once you get going faster or is it just me losing track of the pattern?!

Thanks, just one last question, how long did it take you to get to a reasonable standard of being able to scratch.
@hassaniborrice348711 жыл бұрын
i was offered the opportunity at first to play on cdj's and declined. moving at my own pace i ahd now gotten familiar with the 850's in another month or so i will attempt to try vinyl, however i do respect this craft and realize with vinyl you are serious. thus, i have never really thought of vinyl yet. can you preform the same scratches on cdj's?

How long do you have to practice till you're able to do the scratch at that speed?
@PhilosBias200012 жыл бұрын
r u doing that in reverse or regular way...and it seems most great dj's use hamster ..but why? is it easier to do most patterns hampster..and i dont mean easier to learn but easier once you've got it down to switch from scratch to scratch with hampster?

I'm trying to get this scratch down, really finding it difficult to swing it. Great Vid though, couldn't Even begin this one without it.
@pacohuerta557511 жыл бұрын
When you're breaking this scratch down really slowly, I notice that you let go of the record at the beginning of the scratch to get that first "ahh" sound, but when you are doing it really fast, it seems like you don't let go of the record at all. When I was practicing this, I found it much easier to do this scratch fast if I don't let go of the record every time I restart the scratch. Is it ok to do that? Thank you very much for your videos! I've gotten so much better thanks to you!
@studioscratches7 жыл бұрын

to a degree but i think there is a distinct difference in sound between someone that scratches normal compared to someone that scratches reversed, imo. i also think there is a difference in sound when using your left and right hand

I can only do this scratch double time. I wanna go triple time or 16ths. fader just seems too stiff and I do regular fader hand. I hear if I was doing hamster it would be easier
@studioscratches7 жыл бұрын
Hi, hamster is not really easier. It's just different. What equipment are you using? The key to all speed is to go very slowly and gradually build up.
@studioscratches9 ай бұрын
My crossfader is reversed in this tutorial. For more info see: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHSZZYmAfKp1ea8 and check out my online School of Scratch schoolofscratch.com for my newest in-depth scratch tutorials and online course / practice program - Emma
I cant understand one thing.When the crossfader is on the left side how can we hear the song playing on the right side ?? :S

Hello the crossfader is reversed / hamster style. Please see this video for an explanation: www.studioscratches.com/hamster-reverse-vs-regular-scratching/

***** And one basic question! We only use vocal samples for the scratching? Because it is easier for me to get the desired sounds...Not alwayes but easier than scratching anything else..
@studioscratches10 жыл бұрын
Usually vocal samples, or "ahhh" or "fresh"

+vincent henley Hey vincent. Here is some more info on the subject of what's going on and why: www.studioscratches.com/hamster-reverse-vs-regular-scratching/ It is still possible to learn with my if you scratch regular, I recommend thinking about the scratches in terms of open and closed fader. This is quite an advanced scratch. Let me know if I can help further. Thanks for watching.
