This is the final of a two part series on how I painted the HO Scale Model Railroad Warehouse Flat. Building Flats are easy to construct. With a few simple steps to paint any building flat can produce remarkable results for any scale model railroad or diorama.

Boomer~ I’ve been watching your channel for well over a year now, and I can say, with sincerity, that I’ve learned more from you in these months than I have in reading model railroad magazines for the past 55 years. You have inspired me and given me the confidence to leave the world of Floquil, and my workbench is becoming populated with Tamiya and Vallejo paints, along with Golden and Liquitex fine art products. Watching your videos is like being one on one with you in a classroom. You are a fine teacher and a skilled modeler. Even though I model a different time and locale, your instructions are universal. With the right tools and some practice, I believe anyone can become a builder, whether that be a locomotive, freight car, structure, even a tree armature, but it takes an artist to bring that building to life and create a model. By the way, the tree videos are my favorite; I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched all of them. Thank you!

The master at it again. I remember when I studied art that my art tutor always said to remember when to walk away from a painting. It's very tempting to go on applying paint, but in the end you can go too far and ruin your work. Less us more. There's no teaching when to stop, it comes with time and experience. I live the look you are getting. Again, on behalf of all of us who watch your channel, thank you for sharing your skill and passion with us.

When taping off , I was told, and followed for quite awhile, that you paint your color, tape it, paint color over edges, the ,when dry ,paint your next color so your blessing us the original color and you won't see it. Problem is --- paint, clean air brush, let dry, tape, paint edges, clean air brush, let dry, paint next color. That's why I've been putting off painting 13 cars and engines for 2 yrs.. How wonderfully simple , spray edges with dull coat. This means I can paint 5 units a day -- basic paint and stripes. Soon, before the end of the summer I'll get started. Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!
@boomerdiorama
@boomerdiorama 2 жыл бұрын
You are correct. No need to seal with the same color. Clear coat (gloss or flat) does the same thing - but no paint bleed - ever! . . . zero paint bleed because if the clear bleeds you can't see it anyway. Furthermore, the clear seals! Therefore, the following color stays out of the seam and never bleads through! ;-)

Amazing how you can make a flat surface look so interesting. One question on the Vallejo matte varnish please: They also sell it in the small bottle format to be used with the airbrush. Is it any different than the one in the spray can? Is it just for convenience sake that you use the spray can? Thanks
@boomerdiorama
@boomerdiorama 2 жыл бұрын
The spray can seems to be more potent in terms of odor and substance. It can also get out of hand with small models so be careful. It's great for larger buildings, models , etc. The small bottles of Vallejo require Vallejo thinner for the airbrush and works equally well, but with less odor, over-spray, and more control for small models. Cheers.

Lighting can get expensive when chasing shadows. I have shadows due to production lighting. I can't avoid it. On the other hand, I use overhead LED's for standard lighting when the camera is off. The more options you can afford the better of course. ;-)

Did you have to go back and touch up the pre shading you did in the beginning of painting the Big warehouse once you painted the Blue stripe? The video doesn't show it particularly well as it appears that the edges (not the seam) loose the pre shading.
@boomerdiorama
@boomerdiorama 2 жыл бұрын
Great question. I steered clear of the seams so the pre shading still shows, but less so. Some of the pre-shade perimeter on the white area is actual paint fade due to erosion, so the blue paint would alter that on the prototype as well as if it was recently painted well after the white was.
@waynemiller7382
@waynemiller7382 2 жыл бұрын
How does the acrylic matte varnish stop paint bleed of the blue to the white? Thanks
@boomerdiorama
@boomerdiorama 2 жыл бұрын
The matte varnish layer (which is invisible) seeps into the seam and seals it off. When you paint the blue, it can't get past the varnish, therefore, it peels with a perfect line formed by the edge of the tape. ;-) Cheers ~ Boomer.
