I would say that the 8419 is my second favorite, foreign built steam locomotive the first one been the flying Scotsman!

I remember reading something about it was less costly to order a new steam engine from China who still made them than repair an old one. It was shipped and something came loose when it was being lifted and crashed. So it is and will be amazing to see this and ride on this train.

Grace Gabrielsen As I recall they lifted at the wrong location and bent the rear of the cab up. I dont think it ever came loose or crashed.

What happened was Boone scenic valley railroad already owns a steam locomotive but it did not run, and to fix it I would cost 1 million dollars. So they bought a Chinese locomotive. (The last one made ever) but another company bought one also and while they where on the boat the other company's train went off the side and into the ocean

I see that the 8419 has an automatic Stoker but in the video they are hand firing it to the do not use the automatic Stoker?

They only consume 1 ton of coal per trip and it's on the uphill climb mainly so the stoker is almost obsolete

Why is the engineer's controls on the left side?

It’s a Chinese-built locomotive, some countries have the engineers on the left side.
