I saw your grandfather perform at the Barn on 79th St. in Miami Beach in the 60's and I was totally addicted to his performances always brought down the house. I was in my 20's then. I will never forget him he was so talented and what a showman. I am so sorry for your loss, RIP dear Wayne.

Two times my family were riveted to the TV back in the 60's: when Wayne Cochran performed on "The Jackie Gleason Show" and when The Beatles showed up on "The Ed Sullivan show". Notice who I put FIRST.

Jackie Wilson was and is ,to this day my absolute favorite entertainer(Bruno Mars,Now)but Wayne remains in a class and an experience All by Himself..Love you Brother Wayne to Heaven and All the Way back to Miami.. I also saw Wayne at The Regal, and I'll never forget it. How I loved The Regal, down at 47th and South Park (changed with sadness and grace to M.L.K. later.) I'll never forget seeing Roy Head and Ronnie Milsap tear up The Regal also!! Best musical education of my life during the 60's was going often to The Regal. God bless The South Side.

This is what a GIFT from God is. I think Elvis had it, Johnny Cash too. God used their voices to minister to other broken souls. This ray of light just pouring from them lighting your soul on fire is NOT a coincidence. What a blessing!!

Kristin.......saw Wayne a couple of times at The Barn in Miami......in Miami Beach a small plane pulled a banner advertising Wayne over the beach area. During his performance the waiter came to our table telling us to hold on to our drinks...we didn’t know why....then half of the C C Riders came to the audience and a guy with cape and saxophone stood on our table....wild stuff. A few years later I saw him in Montreal Canada.....he gave me a signed copy of his LP...which I still have....over 50 years. Wayne really put on a show....RIP.

So sad to hear. Someone really needs to make a full length documentary about Wayne Cochran. There is such a massive soul revival scene today people need to know this man. I dj myself and the big one I save for the floor filler killer song is going back to Miami. Much love and respect to this man. And my condolences to his family

What a fantastic video tribute/creation. I lived my life swearing by J. Frank Wilson & the Cavaliers. I’m from East Texas & Wilson lived & died in Lufkin. So it really ate at me when I heard Eddie Vedder doing this cover of Last Kiss. I forgot - & this was just the greatest example of how covers are truly tributes that bring music to different audiences & new generations even if you never know it’s a cover. Some years ago I was researching the Last Kiss debate & low & behold - it was written & performed by a West Texas act, Wayne Cochran. Most impressive of all to me is that the story is Wayne Cochran’s. He had the real life story of a car accident which inspired him. For whatever reason, though, Cochran’s original didn’t get enough attention. It’s what made J. Frank Wilson famous as he was a one-hit wonder that actually died destitute & of alcoholism. It’s been awhile so I wanted to revisit Wayne Cochran, really because i wanted to see the Pompadour. It’s much bigger than I recalled. What a showman. I happened across this fantastic video. It’s truly amazing work about an amazing talent. I’m so sorry for those that spoke here of your loss. I’m glad you found this video. Thank you all so much for sharing. ❤️

Wayne was on the Tomorrow Show (Tom Snyder) with Little Richard in 1981. They talked, and sang "One Day at a Time" together. Sure wish I could find this performance on You Tube. A couple of clips from that show, and Late Night with David Letterman, are on You Tube, but not Wayne and Richard together.

It's so often the case that these characters ruin their own lives and the lives of those around them, and then start a business telling the rest of us just how we ought to live. The old "I hit rock bottom" act is supposed to convince us that we should pay attention when they come up with a plan for our lives. And so many seem to fall for it.
