Saw Wayne Cochran and the CC Riders in 1969. What an entertainer, he had the crowd on their feet. His dynamite band was maybe the tightest group I’d ever heard. Great show.

For those of you never saw him perform in a small venue you missed a real party. Once a year for a few years he would play The Diamond Club in Dayton, Ohio. Went to a few shows and he and The CC Riders were everything you would expect from a funk band. We learned a lesson at the first on e we went to: Always get a drink in a big glass because well into the show he would go raid the bar and get a few bottles of booze. On his way back to the stage he would pour the liquor into as many peoples' glasses as he could, and that could be a large amount. Then, inevitably a couple of the empties would end up being thrown through the tile ceiling. He really could excite a crowd. Great music, too. One of the highlights was them doing Going Back to Miam with the audience doing the call-and-response.

He always told people the idea to bleach his hair came from watching the Edgar and Johnny Winter’s band in the mid 60’s New Orleans before they became famous.
