Burgers / ground beef, steak, eggs, butter, cheese, coffee. That is 75 to 80 percent of what I eat in a month. I will sometimes (one or 2 days per month) have peanut butter or almond butter (no sugar or other ingredients other than salt, water and the nuts). Works fine.

I am a bit of a novice. My wife has been on the beef and butter for a while. I was eating lots of eggs and beef and recently the butter. There is so much to learn. I am new to Dr Boz. I've watched a few Ken Berry and will continue to do so. We are fortunate to have doctors laying out good information. Today I start the butter only . We'll see how it goes. I am almost 70, on a lot of supplements but no meds. Last year I had surgery for a hernia. Today my biggest health challenge is running to the bathroom 4 or 5 times at night, and tinitus. Who knows maybe this will help.Truly Blessed. I feel great. I do physical construction work . Many Thanks for my wife guiding me along the keto path. I am looking forward to my first sardine day.

I too have been seeking through the confusion for tge right way to est to be as well as I can be. Tried 9 yearsvof whole food plant based just... got fatter and no cheating. I know from the first swallow of that 16 ozs. of ground beef I ate that OMAD meal that next day. I felt my cells just "work" right as if they woke up and start wagging their tails with happy. I was 3 bites in and J was fullervthen I ever had been so soon after eating vegetables. I knew my gerlin and leptin has not been working right, despite "normal labs. I am convinced if I am able to get my Vit D past 19 & 24 lots of good happenings will come to pass. Thanks to all the experts who are so passionate and dedicated for your research and sharing. I like that expression : carb addicted brain, tells it exactly as it is. We’re all addicts. When I realised, I couldn’t help noticing people differently, which isn’t always good. At a lovely large family get together yesterday where there was a buffet spread out, I couldn’t help noticing the addict-like behaviour in nearly all the guests of going back for more, and more and more food. So much of the conversation was about the food, ‘have you tried the…’,’would you like me to get you….’, ‘you must try the..’ ‘I’m going to have some more…’ ‘yes I must try the….’ ‘That looks amazing I’m going to get some.’
@asherasator

@@caroliner1901 Low-carb ketone/carnivore type diets work just like cocaine, meth and other street drugs. These diets are addiction physiology par excellence. (1) They rev up the metabolism to oxidize proteins and fats for ATP which are larger compounds than carbs that metabolize quick and simple and require less to process. (2) So the proteins and fats are doing double duty for ATP energy creation and (3) try to keep up standard maintenance of structural, biological and hormonal integrity with higher uric acid byproducts and ketones which can (4) lead to acidosis [saturated dumped acid in the tissues] to prevent acidemia in the blood. This is the exactly how it works with stimulant addicts. So going into starvation mode like an addict you lose weight as the body is eating itself because of malnourishment, with high cortisol, adrenaline and dopamine levels which are like steroidal pain relief drugs and produce the same street drug euphoria, with a metabolic equilibrium eventually met because of food intake. That's why every keto/carnivore/caveman/cavewoman says the same thing "I feel better/amazing"! Which is because it's like you're on drugs!

My husband who is 10 yrs older started it following Ken Berry and Dr Boz put his type II diabetes in remission now takes no meds for it. We both lost the weight feel great at 62 I have no aches, pains or health problems except HBP but it’s very controlled with minimal medication.. Do it , get rid of the carbs it took me 6 weeks before I lost my first pound and I would hit plateaus and stay for months but eventually I would loose more .. At my age it was slow going but it DID happen.. Be patient, be strict super low to no carbs and u WILL loose.

Fasting was more difficult than giving up alcohol. I love to eat (who doesn't?), but I was eating all the time since I was snacking every couple of hours even just before bedtime. When I was still in the workforce I needed to eat to keep up my energy. But, when I retired I didn't reduce my caloric consumption. Thus, I gained weight and my blood glucose levels skyrocketed! Thanks to following much of your advice for just 3 months, I have lost over half of the weight that I gained over 15 years and I have my blood glucose well below my doctor's recommendations! Excellent Video ! Also recent studies by Doctors/Professors like Paul Mason, Tim Noakes and Erick Westman show that higher healthy LDL cholesterol levels are associated with a longer healthier life. They say an easy way to tell if you have healthy Cholesterol is that if you have low Triglycerides under 70 to 80 and good HDL levels that you will have healthy unoxidized cholesterol. But if you have high triglycerides that most likely you have oxidized unhealthy cholesterol and you will have inflammation in your arteries and heart and you need to cut out the excess carbs, sugars, PUFAs and possessed foods. And eat more healthy saturated and monosaturated fats.

Most studies suggest that the link between butter/dairy and heart disease is weak at best and in fact recent studies, (Medical News Today article) show that good quality grassfed butter and dairy may actually protect against heart disease, dementia, Alzheimer's and cancer. I eat quite a bit of butter/dairy and my cholesterol ratios, total 240, triglycerides low at 50, HDLs high at 70, vLDL 3, very good ratios. I also like and eat sardines.

WOW! Thank you, doctor Boz! I went through three 2lb packs of that Kerrygold pure Irish butter from Costco last month, so I got four packs for this month. But for some reason it's not moving, I guess I got tired of it. But THIS has given it new life! I have 6 pounds of butter and a ton of sardines in olive oil. Plus the best part! A plan! You can kiss that butter goodbye and the sardines soon to follow! I check my glucose all the time, but the ketone meter just sits in its new box, never used after a year or more. I'm pulling that out also! I got everything, I just need to get the stuff out of the containers and start using them!!! Thank you doctor for the exciting plan with numbers! (This shows you how stupid I can be! I'm sitting on a healthy gold mine and completely unaware of it! Another wow, but in the opposite direction)! LOL I've also been dabbling in the carnivore diet for about a year now, so this should be a piece of cake, I meant a piece of butter.

I was going to wait to comment but Dr. Boz just said the magic word "efficient" I've been muttering for years, even back in my Mark Sisson days when I was skinny strong and fast and fasting the heck out of things. I would always say: don't fat people have the most efficient machines? People with slow metabolisms eat small amounts. In any other machine, low fuel consumption would be a sign of efficiency!

Sardines are a very risky strategy. 1. They become very oxidized from long storage 2. They often are processed with highly oxidized, omega-6 rich oils..Even if they don't list them with the ingredients, it is quite common to use seed oils in processing. If they label says "May contain soy, there is a very signficant chance it has soybean oil in it. 3. If you are getting sardines, get a very reputable brand that are sold in olive oil...Olive oil is the best medium for preventing oxidization of the sardines...There's an NCBI study on this somewhere...However, most olive oil is not pure, so you are always taking a lot of risks with sardines.

I find the different reactions to water fasting interesting. Most people seem to be too challenged or scared to give it a try. For me water fasting is so much easier than denying myself the things I love but shouldn't be eating while eating other things. Dieting in traditional way is difficult for me. If I manage my water intake well, after the first 2-3 days my hunger is basically gone. If I do have a bout of hunger it is usually because I haven't taken a drink lately. I have a drink and in a few minutes that craving is gone. Now the mental game is a different story. The habit of eating, the relaxation, the enjoyment, the social interaction all have to be squared away in your head but none of it is insurmountable. I actually feel really good while fasting and have done it for about two weeks at a time. If you are contemplating a water fast education yourself and go for it. Good luck.

I’ve started the ketogenic diet exactly have Dr. Boz instructed. What is interesting is I bought the Flora six connect glucose monitor and the Keto-Mojo. I open up the glucose and keto strips for both machines, clean the site on my finger squeeze a healthy size wasted drop then I squeeze a large drop of blood and allow both machines to check my sugar and check my key tones from the same drop of blood. I get significantly different results from both machines. I am curious to which one I believe? I would really like to believe the one that gives me the best results. I have tested this theory now three times and continue to get different results from both machines. I was just curious what Dr. Boz would say or recommend. I know I’ve been strict but I’ve been checking my levels twice daily to see how my body reacts.

Dr. Boz, could you please be a bit more specific about the type of sardines you recommend? Where I live, canned sardines are only available in either tomato sauce, sunflower oil or olive oil. Sardines in just water or brine is not available, at least not in most stores. The tomato sauce type is out of the question on a keto diet, so I am left with either sunflower or olive oil. I have weighed the content of a can and found that there is 80 grams of sardines and 30-35 grams of olive oil in a can. That means that the majority of calories in that can comes from the oil, and not from the sardines themselves. Do you recommend draining off as much of the oil as possible, or would you just eat the whole content including all the oil?

I was born in 1948. Started eating vegan around 1970. I'm 172 cm tall and weigh a bit less than 60 kg. For the last few years I have eaten only food that I have prepared myself, from simple agricultural products, and occasionally plant material gathered from the wild, such as black walnuts and berries that I gathered myself. About 3 years ago I stopped adding oils to my food. Not even unrefined oils. Only whole oil seeds such as sesame, flax. almonds, walnuts, and oily fruits such as avocado. I keep these low in quantity. I eat a lot of grapefruit. I often juice them and add water and sugar. I never eat cookies or cakes. I eat jasmine rice and collards one day, jasmine rice and spinach the next. By volume, mostly the leafy vegetable with only a small amount of rice. Some ground sesame seeds added (tahini). I eat occasional pita breads, whole wheat. Lots of mangos and whatever fruit I can get in season. I juice citrus fruits with a hand press. I sometimes buy unpasteurized orange juice from Trader Joe. No pasteurized juice, no juice from concentrate. I add soymilk to my coffee. Made from nothing but water and soybeans.

I've been primarily carnivore for 6 months now and mostly do a 16/8 Intermittent fast with my eating window from 12 - 8pm although alot of the time I only eat one meal a day. I went to my Dr yesterday for a 6-month check-up. I last saw my Dr approximately 3 weeks into my carnivore journey and he stated that I had not been on it long enough to see a difference in my A1C labs due to it being an avg over a 3 month period. At that time my A1C was 6.8 and I also deal with high blood pressure. All other labs looked great including cholesterol. Triglycerides were a little high at 179. Although not in any way perfect on my carnivore diet but probably around 85 to 90% of the time, I did expect to see some improvement in my A1C numbers and BP. Yesterday my A1C labs were 7.3 and my BP is still elevated. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. I have seen many overall improvements from a reduction in inflammation to feeling 150% better in general although I've felt crappy this week for some reason. As a result of my A1C numbers yesterday my Dr. prescribed me Rybelsus and I continue to take BP meds. Has anyone here taken Rybelsus? I haven't picked up the prescription yet. Any suggestions on what I should do, concerns etc? Thanks for any help.

I just don't believe that one size fits all. I am turning 74, have a degree in Dance, was a runner for 30 yrs, and still work out every other day strenuously. I have journaled my food off and on throughout my Life. (Had a weight issue between 10yr old-13.5 yrs but w/MD guidance was normal range by high school. However, it affected my conscientiousness for the rest of my Life). Most people don't believe I am in my 70s. I am limber and can crank up my activity (other than my banged-up feet!). I am comfortable with around 50gm of healthy carbs a day. I stay away from sugar (even natural sugars) more now than ever. I think the most important factor for people IS TO NOT FEEL DEPRIVED. EVERYONE HAS TO FIND THEIR OWN WORKABLE COMFORT PLACE. NOW, if you are pushing the current KETO diet which prioritizes FAT perhaps when folks have a lot to lose then it is what it is. The idea of starting to eat A HIGHER AMOUNT OF FAT NOW doesn't really work for me. The 20g of carbs FOR THE LONG HAUL SEEMS DEPRESSING. I lean more toward the old Atkins version of eating with my own modifications.

It's probably been addressed before, so I'm sorry if this question is repeated, but what do you say in regard to digestion and bile production in regard to eating a lot of fat all at once for someone who has had their gallbladderremoved? Without the gallbladder to regulate the release of bile to break down fats, is someone's body going to handle it differently than someone with a gallbladder? I don't want to be burping sardines for hours, and I'm afraid that's exactly what would happen. And trust me, if you are burping sardines, NO ONE will want to be within a mile of your breath.

Do I understand this right? Eating butter helps the body make ketones. Ketones aid in weightloss?
@mary1643

You are teaching your body to use ketones for fuel so you can stop eating all those unhealthy carbs that bounce your blood sugar up and down. I’m no dr; just studying fasting and ketogenic eating for about seven years now.

Love to eat butter but I only do a couple of tablespoons at a time. If I have a hunger craving and no time to cook I eat a couple of Tablespoons of butter. Yum. Are we supposed to eat sardines in water or sardines in oil? And do we also drink/eat the water and or oil?

I’ve been trying to lose 5 pounds that I had gained. I was stuck until I did the sardine fast. It was great! I wish you hadn’t moved to FL! I’m from NE. Is there anyone from near Omaha to. Be a support system with me?

@lucatintor4896 Honestly, the hardest part for me in this was giving up milk and sugar on my tea and coffee. I had already given up all fake foods, all breads, and nothing worked. So I found Dr. Westmans Page 4 plan on utube and follow that he breaks it all down and great meal plans .

Thanks Dr. Boz That was pretty fascinating. I was going on a fast here and I am going to do this exact fast now for 21 challenge Can you do this twice in a row? Seems you are eating quite a few days...I would lke to do the sardine for 3 days, water for 3, back and forth for like 30 days? Would that work? Thanks, Dave

I love your passion. It makes me want to learn whatever you're teaching. A little butter is good for vitamin A absorbtion.. i am allergic to dairy, butter, cheeses and even ghee due to the milk proteins, so I substitute with coconut oil.

This looks like a great challenge. I am 64, new to keto, w/a generally healthy diet, about 2 wks off of carbs, trying to do a 6hr eating window w/seeds, yogurt, cheese, meat and some veg. My main concern is a rising PSA of 30 from 11 last month w/some prior rounds of Lupron which I am seriously trying to avoid. I have just started see your material, but familiar w/Keto from Dr. Berg. Any thoughts? Thanks, Ken.

I eat butter everyday. I keep 10 pounds in my fridge. 5 pounds regular for cooking and 5 pounds of pasture.. I don't eat it like a chocolate bar though. It goes on all my meat, eggs, and my dessert.which is bacon. I was Keto for 5 years, now 37 days on Carnivore.

I've been on a low carb diet for about 1.5 weeks and lost 7 lbs. I've been eating twice within an 8hr window. I'm getting myself ready for a sardine challenge. 1. I'm going to share a story that goes back to about 1970... My older brother convinced us that sardines & peanut butter sandwiches were delicious. Since I looked up to my big brother I tried it and liked it. I haven't tried the combination since then. I'm trying to figure out a way to make the 3 day sardine challenge go over the best. If I mix sardines with freshly ground peanut butter (not processed peanut butter) would that be a pro or con? If peanut butter isn't best, how about another nut, such as almond? 2. I am definitely insulin resistant and have been for probably 18 years. Should I water fast after the sardine challenge or would that create too much stress? Can I replace water with homemade collagen rich chicken broth and pink salt? 3. You (Dr Boz) mentioned that one could join the community for support. How do I join? Thank you!

I don't know about adding peanut butter. Some sardines come in olive oil and apparently that's okay (avoid things like cottonseed/soybean oil). I've also added a bit of melted butter or coconut oil to sardines packed only in water and salt (hope that's okay). But peanuts are actually a legume and have some carbs and anti-nutrients. You might be able to eat some on a standard keto diet (as long as total carbs are low) but it may interfere with some of sardines' benefits. Just my take.

During the sardines 'fast' your carbs should be zero. But doing what you can, even when not perfect, is better than doing nothing at all.
