Thank you for this. Very clear explanation - and without all the nonsense chat in other videos. Well done!

Fantastic yet simple guide. Not sure why this video hardly come into the result as I need to navigate quite some pages to find probably the only video that works. The only different I did from this step was: Instead of flash the SSD (mine was M.2 NVME) via Raspberry Pi Imager, I just copy using the built in app SD Copier inside the Raspberry Pi. With this, I retain anything I've setup including VNC and my LAMP setup.

just found this video, Thank You, "Arkcantos -FPA, When you used the app SD Copier, and copied everything to the SSD, Did you still go into the configurations and change the boot up?

@@cstevens6692 Yes I do, but it's optional since there were boot order. which will boot from USB of SD card is absence. Set to boot from USB 1st will save about 5 min or so I think. I advice to change fist before copy duh.

When I am trying to do this, my Consistent 128 GB SSD is failing during the verification on Pi imager. I am using a similar adapter as yours, tried almost everything but still failing. Any Idea how to make it work?

Which is the usb to ssd cable. Could you please share the link for buying. I see many adaptors don't work for rpi.

When doing this on a 500 GB SSD, after using the Raspberry imager, looking at my Windows Disk Management for that drive, I'm left with 2 partitions: "boot" (256 MB FAT32) and "Healty (Primary Partition)" (3.72 GB) and then 461.79 GB of unallocated space. How can I put that unallocated space to use?

Can you provide the details of the SATA USB 3.0 adapter.This one without additional power supply is good enough or with power supply one is required?

For 2.5 inch sata u dont need extra power.. it will take power from usb itself...but u should use a better heat sink and 3A power supply for rpi when u connect sata drive to it. Sata drive will take good amout of power from rpi so it needs to be cooled down.. I used Raspberry Pi Metal Aluminum Case with Double Fans for Raspberry Pi 4B (Black) www.amazon.in/dp/B086VZHCTK/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_Z023NDB9KSV7JD6ZZDEH

@@ASTechWorkshop Hi I found out that the new raspberry pi 4 B 8 gb don't need SD card you can directly write image to SSD and plug into the USB 3.0. No need to install and copy.I found out in ubuntu documentation strangely it never came up in any search. Now I have SSD and SD card.SSD I have put manjaro linux and disabled the gnome desktop. Again In SD card I have chromium OS, its the only OS with desktop that works with good experience in the model. Lots of gyan :). Now my question any link you have such that I can decide whether to boot from SD or SSD can the EPROM support it.

I followed this video at a snails pace so as not to make a mistake. At the end, df -h is showing my 120GB drive as 16GB. I think the default Raspberry Pi Imager is restricting the size of the boot part.

Figured it out. Needed to run updates again and go through the whole rigmarole. Something worked, it's now showing the entire size.

@ASTechWorkshop

Is there a way to completely negate the usage of micro sd card? I have an SSD drive ( 1 TB ) and Raspberry Pi4 8 GB Let me know! Thanks

didn’t get you, but I think with new firmware updates you don’t even need to use sd card , you can directly use ssd instead
