Writing has been her passion and this passion resulted in effortless flow of beautiful writings from her pen, be it stories, poems or articles. For Dr Indira Hegde writing has been close to her heart since her younger days.
Also an acclaimed scholar and researcher Dr Indira Hegde hails from Kinnigoli. A post graduate degree holder, Indira also has done D Lit and is a post graduate diploma holder in social studies.
Her credentials have now earned her the coveted chairmanship of the Mangaluru Taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan scheduled to be held at St Agnes College on January 29.
Dr Indira Hegde who is also an entrepreneur has authored three collection of stories, four novels and an anthology of poems. Her research work "Buntaru ondu Samajo Samskrutiya Adhyayana,’ has also been translated into English.
She has been honoured with several prestigious awards including Karnataka Janapada Academy Award, Rani Abbakka Award, Kamana Ranga Swami Endowment Award and Sahitya Academy Award.

Only for 'Kola', a Brahman was invited as a 'Guest' who would converse with the 'Pombada'. But this Brahmin was well versed with all rituals connected to 'Bhutha', 'Pretha' and Pishabchi. In my Grand father/Father's property there were 6 Bhuthas. Till 1949, the then 'Billava Tenant' was offering ( as Bali/ sacrifice) Hens ( Koli) that were brought by other tenants, once in a year,. Later, the dead hens were being taken by those tenants. In 1949, the Govt banned animal sacrifices. So, our 6 Bhuthas were converted as vegetarians. Then after, a Brahmin ( Aithal ) was coming and offering Tender Coconuts, saltless 'Kadubu', saltless white pumpkin Kaaihuli, Aralu bella, all prepared at home, in the presence of my father and us. Though we knew ourselves all rituals with mantras and Tantras, we used invite a Brahmin having sound knowledge. I do not know whether a Brahmin's presence is necessary during Kola.

I try understanding you but the inference here is to what extent the originality remains after Brahmins enters performing this? How much changes they mixed to originality is the ❓ i.e ritual changes, beliefs changes by change in practice...gradually leads to conversion of beliefs and practices, this was done by Brahmins priests since time in memory..earlier kings were influenced to change from shaiva to vaishnava etc.. If so this is as dangerous as conversion...

In each and every Nonbrahmins marriage a elderly person called "Gurikara" used to inform all marriage rituals and the family members used to follow it. ​@@muraleedharabhat8016 yes correct but some changes are very sad sir. Jumadi to dhoomavati like the essence of Tulu culture the original Jumadi pardhana has become pauranic in some areas. It's not at all linked the Vedic or purana Tulu daivaradhane and nagaradhane was indigenous. The mistake is ours we became so lazy that it cost us our own culture it's very sad that because of the intension to make more money and status we lost the original essence.

If you look at our Karnataka history…just before vishnuvardhana (formerly bittideva)got converted to vaishnava from jainism. most of the population (atleast 35%) were following jainism. Jainism was wide spread in karnataka( you can see their presence including our adi Kavis pampa and ranna who all followed jainism in history) any ways ballalas were once Jains and were converted to vaishnavas if you go by books and history.

It’s very important to learn and understand the history of Karnataka and pass it on to our new generations, else it will be lost. I started doing this analysis after I met a patient from Hungary 🇭🇺 and her name was “Virag”. She pronounced it in an Indian accent and told me that it was a native Hungarian name. True but some changes are very sad. Jumadi to dhoomavati like the essence of Tulu culture the original Jumadi pardhana has become pauranic in some areas. It's not at all linked the Vedic or purana Tulu daivaradhane and nagaradhane was indigenous. The mistake is ours we became so lazy that it cost us our own culture it's very sad that because of the intension to make more money and status we lost the original essence.
