Thanks for the review. I've been buying and wearing boots for almost 20 years now. I don't know why I never decided to try the iron rangers. I love the moc toes but the iron rangers have such an incredible following and status that I walked into the red wing store near by and tried on the 8083's with hawthorne muleskinner. I kicked myself and couldn't believe that I waited almost in my 40's to finally try these. I was able to score a nice deal on the 8113's which are the same make-up but a different sole. These are such an incredible boot and I'm stoked to finally own a pair as iconic as these.

They are fantastic with very little wear on them. I love them.

Thank you for your video. I have the 8111, and I used the Red Wing boot oil - big mistake, they got dark and bland looking. I used some saddle soap and it's brought back some of the amber but I don't think it'll be like it ever was. I still love 'em, though, and it's given me more excuse to wear 'em to the dog park and mud and get them dirty knowing that I'm not going to do any damage to 'em, and maybe get some nice patina in them now, haha. Love the iron ranger in copper, though. I have the Weekender and 1907 in copper.

I love how you get into the technical details! Something interesting I noticed about their Rough & Tough leather, if you read the website description, it’s oiled and waxed Nubuck! And yet, people are lathering conditioners and oils, then wonder why their boots turn muddy brown. Even RW recommends using conditioners on this leather!
@jakobdieckmann2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. I use the leather cream on my CRT. It doesn’t darken them too much. But I think over time sunlight, rain, dirt etc. will darken the leather regardless how you take care of the leather. Your thoughts?
@Bootlosophy2 жыл бұрын
@@jakobdieckmann I think oiled nubuck (as opposed to dry nubuck) can stand conditioning, like Crazy Horse and waxy suedes. I’ve used Bick 4 on my Blacksmith CRT before, it went more waxy and gave me a heart attack but dried dry and after a good brushing to heat and spread the oils came out very well!

@@Bootlosophy Nice! Personally I think it improves their silhouette. I own a couple of pairs so I'm a fan of the IR shape but from my perspective it limits their versatility. I see them as extreme rugged/casual; I can't even pair them with chinos for instance. Just a slight flattening of the toe box (as in your case) increases their wardrobe compatibility though imo.

Hello Teik! I experimented with sizing on this last and for me it was a tough decision between 1/2 or 1 full size down from my brannock measurement. 1 full size down gave me a snug fit and any sock thicker than a cotton athletic sock was too snug. When going 1/2 size down, I found the boot a little too long and a bit sloppy with too much room in front of my toes. Do you find your iron ranger, blacksmith, or beckman to have too much room in front of your toes since you only went 1/2 size down from brannock?
@Bootlosophy Жыл бұрын
No, not on my foot shape. Did you try different widths?
@carlchea2334 Жыл бұрын
@@Bootlosophy Thank you for replying! No I haven't. I measure a D width on the brannock. The only pair of boots I own wider than a D is a hiking boot. They were perfect when new but after the break in they are too roomy now, even with thick merino wool socks. After that experience, I've been pretty hesitant to consider any EE widths again.
@MarcP5267 Жыл бұрын
The most important aspect of getting the best fit possible is your balls of should lining up with the widest part / flex point of the boot. Then once you get close to that the boots should fit very very comfortably snug. Toe room doesn’t matter as long as toes are hitting the front.

Red Wing Iron Rangers are the staple of the boot world. Only crazy‘s like us feel the need to go higher. I have some Thursday boots and they are good for what the are. I also one a pair of beautiful Truman’s, two Grant Stones, two Allen Edmond’s and one Wolverine 1000 Miles. Red Wing offers spectacular quality for the price. They are as tough as a boot ANYONE will ever need. If your boot didn’t hold up, neither did your foot. I scored both of my pairs new for 220 USD which is s steal! I love the Iron Rangers. When you have them in your possession, it’s just so easy to see why they are truly special.
