I'm assuming based on what you've said that you're American, since 'illegals' is a term that only applies to people who are not legally present in a country, and therefore isn't likely the EU. The United States is already in a giant pile of crap because of sources all over the world, notably not Mexico. Australia has gotten more cases from the US than from any other country, and this is before the number of confirmed cases in America spiked.

Uh, yeah. But the ones used on borders have *never* worked. The Great Wall of China failed to keep out the mongols. The Berlin Wall didn't stop 5,000 East Berliners from defecting. Even the vast long border fence, with millions of dollars in funding to patrol, on the US - Mexican Border, and after that, it was found that at least 1.5 million illegal immigrants had still managed to make it into the US or Mexico from either side. The larger they are, the less they work.

Something that only just occurred to me as I rewatched this is John Oliver is surprisingly fair to Trump. Especially around here (3:30) where Trump mentions what the wall is made of. He treats the idea seriously, explains what it would cost, and ridicules the lack of competence itself, instead of just ignoring all his ideas. john balint The problem people see with Trump's plan is the deportation. Not only can you not deport 11 million people, as that would be insanely difficult, but that type of mass deportation is unethical. Deportation like that ensures that children with undocumented parents are separated, or children will have to go back despite the fact that they were raised in the US. Not only that but it would be incredibly damaging to the economy. Undocumented peoples contribute vastly to state and local treasuries, and even contributed $12 billion to the economy. The vast majority pay taxes, state and local bills and more. Not to mention the sectors where undocumented people usually funnel into for work. The agricultural sector, especially, would see a downturn in production (and therefore profit), and you know for a fact that everyday American citizens are fishing all day to find a job picking fruit in the sun all day. A path to citizenship for those who check-out as productive members of society is a better way to go, economically, ethically, and it's definitely a lot easier than mass deportation. The point is, you cannot label a people-group definitively the way Trump does, and then propose actions based on those prejudiced views. Mexico is not "sending" their people, and if they were, you know the majority aren't rapists and murderers (we have enough gun-nuts with mental disabilities in our country naturally). He said that he assumes some of the people are good people. Only some? How about the majority of hard working people? Perhaps we, as a country, can come to a more logical conclusion than mass deportation. Sorry for writing an essay...

For another wall example: Hadrian's Wall in England was built by the Romans to limit how much those in today-Scotland could raid Roman-occupied territory in Britain.
