I hope in Borderlands 4, if it comes out that is, you can make your own character and select a class for him or her, or even mixing two classes, i would adore an assassin - beastmaster character

Not the best story, but it's better than the former two.

Story wise Borderlands 2 beats both 1, 3 and the Pre-Sequel, and unlike 3, 2 had some very interesting and good characters, exception Fl4k since he is the best character in 3 If BL2 would have these mechanics it could easily mop up the floor with BL1 and BL3

While not part of the "former two" you're talking about, I will say one thing I hate relating to the Borderlands 1-2 storyline is that I hate is in TPS, Lilith had an opportune moment to take out Jack but her inability to do so lead to everything Handsome Jack did. And she had the nerve to take out Athena. While I'm still on the subject of TPS, didn't Lilith say Athena was caught snooping around Sanctuary but TftBL showed Mordecai and Brick taking her in after being hired by Vallory? I don't know. I'm rambling and I'm gonna stop now.

In my humble opinion, there are only two good things about this game. It's the intro song by The Heavy and FL4K's design. Other than that, this game was a trashy waste of any good fan's time.

...opinions ... i think game is [still] great and gameplay is amazing. Story is crap in many ways, extremely frustrating multiple times [especially trashing of Maya], but these games were never about the story tbh ...
