I have NEVER seen so many 'strawmen' in a show/movie. A lawyer working in a high-end lawfirm giving another lawyer a poop map??? A thing no man has ever done. Head partners of law firms hiring and firing people at night in a crowded bar? Once again we are seeing a woman made to appear competent by making all the men around her ridiculously incompetent.

In response to why does She-Hulk get longer hair: I doubt the show will go into this, but the comics break down that the gamma radiation isn't exclusively turning them into monsters but bringing out their 'repressed' sides. For Bruce, it's all his repressed anger and desires to be strong when he was too weak and the mental health issues his been ignoring resulting in a split personality. For Jen, she was repressing desires to be more sexual/glamorous. Even in the comics, before her transformation, she was much more of a plain/mousy type of beauty. But her She-Hulk form is a bombshell because that's the side of her she was keeping quiet. And since she didn't suffer the same childhood abusive trauma/or mental health issues as her cousin her transformation does not come with a split personality. She just gains confidence and looks she was 'holding back'. This show will never go into that though. Because modern-day writing would never explore a woman's desire to be more conventionally attractive/super model-like as opposed to everyone is equally beautiful.

That’s brilliant. They’ve hinted at that aspect of her character, at the dinner table scene where her uncle is criticizing her curled hair, but I’d like them to lean more heavily into that idea. Sounds like a pivotal aspect of the character.

The Woman in the Red Dress in the matrix is the type of woman that's more likely to be cat called. Jennifer looks fine but she's nothing special and her clothes and attitude reflects that.
@haku8135
@haku8135 2 жыл бұрын
She'd probably be the type that LIKES it. Cause it so rarely happens, so when it DOES happen she's like "Ohh, I must look so pretty today, I'm catching people's attention". That's a thing! Really hot women attract a lot of attention wherever they go cause they're bombshells, so they're just tired of people acknowledging it. THAT is the source of "ooh catcalling is bad" it's NOT it's FINE, they're just tired of hearing how beautiful they are so they complain about it. Like imagine if EVERYWHERE you went you had people shouting "Nice hair mate" at you. At first you're like "Yeaaaaah, I got some sweet ass hair." But eventually you'll just go "Ok, I get it, hair's great, thanks. Fucking hell." Women that don't attract so much attention LIKE being cat called because they don't usually get that, and it's a confidence boost. MEN work the same way, it's a totally normal thing. So the fact she's SO absurdly angry about "constantly being catcalled" which she wouldn't be, shows how horrible her personality is.
@KillerChickn
@KillerChickn 2 жыл бұрын
@@haku8135 Not only this, but there's levels and scales to things. She can be as constantly angry as she likes at being catcalled and mansplained to. However, is her level of anger anywhere near the absolute seeing red level of rage that actual life and death situations inspire? No. Obviously her anger is way more impotent compared to Bruce's. Her infinite amount of anger is a much smaller and weaker infinity of anger than the well that Bruce has. There's no nuance to it in this show, in fact it's portrayed to be the opposite, as if first world problems like that are more legitimate than watching your father beat your mom to death as a kid like Bruce went thru. They either act like the anger is exactly the same, or that women deal with worse.

For the suit part, you could make it worse by having her say "my clothes are gonna tear", and he vaguely gestures as a random assistant shows up with a properly sized suit and shoes, showing just how much he only cares about She-Hulk for the marketing aspect. And with a creepy undertone of "how the fuck did he get her shoe size from 10sec in the courtroom the other day?". She should still note in a 4th wall break that the suit is of great quality and costs a fortune (especially tailor made in 24h). That would give a lot of character details about the boss in a single act

Not even generic--outright bad. How do you end your closing argument without any reference to the facts of the case? Also, my favorite blunder of the show is that she, as the prosecutor, closes AFTER the defense. How on earth did the writers not even get that right? And you can't even argue that it's for dramatic purposes because they could achieve the same order events by having her deliver a rebuttal argument which prosecutors do give after the defense's close. It's so sad that this show debuted the same week Better Call Saul ended. That show put in the effort to correctly cite the appropriate legal statutes being invoked in their court scenes. And they managed to actually show lawyers (men AND women) be great at their job.

We spent several days shooting that, so totally worth it! Now, are you telling me that the scene in the office that we shot in half an hour will take you a week, just to get the hair right?" If I'm not mistaken in the comics her transformations are triggered by confidence not anger. So my idea is you can keep the parts where she's insanely good at Hulk stuff but she lets her powers go to her head and she becomes overconfident and reckless. Thus causing property damage and putting peoples lives at risk. Or what about this? She goes out as She-Hulk just painting the town red and having a grand old time but when she has to go back to work as Jennifer Walters she has a massive hangover and that's why she was fired.

If she was a firm partner, then yes, the firm would have professional pictures of her. But if she was just starting there (which seems like she was) would be surprising for them to have these. And if she was a firm partner she could not have been fired so easily. I am also certain that she would have had grounds to sue the firm for firing her. Because she could argue they are discriminating against her due to her superpowers, which do not impact her ability to do her job.

I kinda just died inside at the part when bad sexist lawyer dude said, "There's a hot chick, I'm gonna go talk to it." I need to know, how many people in America have said this in the last few decades without being shunned by the whole of society? Or period, is this something that people say? Is it just something that rich Hollywood people have to deal with? Where is this social critique coming from? Who are the culprits? This lady acts like this guy represents most men, and this show makes it feel like it's supposed to represent me me, but I'm sitting here cringing as I watch that scene, so obviously I think that's a ridiculous, stupid thing to say. I think the biggest problem with this show is that it thinks it's a deep social commentary, but it comes across as a winy complaint about an exaggerated scenario. As a side note, I've seen a lot of voices these days saying that porn is actively healthy and so religion just suppresses people. Are those the same people screaming about objectification? It reminds me a little of Agents of Shield. Now bear with me. The destruction of Shield nuked the entire premise of the show and they had to somehow work around it. Which they did pretty well with it becoming the central premise in some ways for effectively 3 seasons. But it is clear that they had to work around it because the event was too big in the context of the show to ignore. Still they way it wrenched the show was highly visible. The Blip is probably the single most dramatic moment in the MCU and frankly for a movie they can slot it into the background with a throwaway line or ten. Movies tend to be fast paced enough you NEED to only stick to the most relevant things and can skirt around the background. But the various parts series have no way to do that unless it is THE plot like it was in FATWS (leaving aside how the botched things in that show). It is too big so they need to just choose to ignore it. Right now the only hope I have for any Blip related trauma to be looked at is the new Ant Man. Both ones so far were better than they had any right to be and the fact that Scott's daughter is going to be a major character means they have a real place to look at it.
@DuneStone6816

The part where Jennifer says she couldn't represent Emil due to conflict of interest because he tried to kill Bruce shows that she knew everything Bruce had been through in episode 1 when she started ranting like a lunatic feminist at him about cat calling and mansplaining being worse than anything he's ever experienced.
@peaceandloveusa6656
@peaceandloveusa6656 2 жыл бұрын
The conflict of interest thing is particularly amusing to me because earlier in this same episode they point out conflict of interest leads to mistrial, then say it can be hand-waved with a sheet of paper. The trial from episode one is deemed a mistrial because the jury would favor the lawyer because the lawyer saved their life (legally sound). They then say a piece of paper could be signed to negate conflict of interest (not legally sound, but now canon in this world). So my question is: Wouldn't the opposition and judge be willing to sign this magical sheet of paper on account of her saving them too? Then again, if they do not need the opposition or judge to sign off on it, then did the jury refuse to sign it in her first trial? The writers' sheer inability to follow their own rules from one scene to the next is mindblowingly bad.

One example where I’ve seen other characters noticing a 4th wall break and it still working was in the TMNT: Turtles Forever movie. It was basically a crossover between two generations of Ninja Turtle cartoons. The 80s version of Raphael would sometimes make a wisecrack while looking at the audience, and the 2003 characters would just look at him like, “Who is he talking to?” Another example, in Doom Patrol, the villain of the show was narrating out loud. When one of the characters asked who he was talking to, he actually started verbally listing off all the types of people who he figured would be watching the show.

So her issue with the conflict of interest was that Blonsky tried to kill her cousin, so she doesn't feel like she sould be the person to represent him because of an inherent bias. That's fair enough. The company waves it off like it's nothing, actively making this case a condition of her getting hired, when they should really be concerned of her potential bias affecting her ability to represent the client, to a point where she might take the case but actually do things to sabotage it so Blonsky doesn't get out of prison. It's things like that, that writers of a legal show would have to think about, but because the writers admit they're shit, we don't get any of that. So there's really three ways this might go, considering the mentality of the writers. Either the firm is setting her up to fail, because patriarchy keeping women down, OR she pulls it off, but it turns out that Blonsky wasn't rehabilitated at all and she just let a monster loose, who also has several criminal pen pals to rampage with. Or they just need him out of prison for that Thunderbolts show/movie thing whatever it is, so She-Hulk is just a very expensive explanation of how Blonsky is not jailed.

There were actually thousands of 1 and 10 star reviews before the first episode of She-Hulk even aired. The 10 stars, in their defense, clearly stated in their reviews it was not an honest review rating, but simply trying to counteract the review bomb. Meanwhile, the 1 star reviews were criticizing the show making the claim they watched it before it came out. For once, the claim is actually valid. And Mark was quoting the article, not saying it himself. The article actually states the 1 and 10 votes were coming in equal measure, but the review bombing was still successful because any genuine votes have to move the bar from the rigid "5.5" it was stuck at from all of the false 1 and 10 votes. My question is: Why the heck do they let people review a show before it airs? That is just dumb.

Shad, her hair is perfect because she's perfect, because her blood is so special she's probably a mutant, a god's avatar and part alien celestial as well. To be honest, her firing comes from a good idea done wrong. Let me explain before tossing stuff at me. The point "You're a superhero: you're going to influence the jury with your status and, even if you don't, you make a good case for a retrial" isn't a bad point, but firing her is stupid! You keep her and make her boss state "You'll stay with us for PR, but you'll never get foot in a tribunal again". If she was so committed to be an active lawyer, this is worse than actually fire her. To be able to work again as she intends, she had to quit herself. Maybe after a bit of trials and error, she could even have her own firm...

Jen shoulda appealed her dismissal from the DAs office under the Equal Opportunity Anti-Discrimination protections and People with Disabilities Act. Being fired for acquiring a blood-borne infection is illegal. While I understand "the bit" is to take the piss of the show for its many blunders, you are being willfully oblivious on the points that actually reflect awareness of her new condition. In LAST episode, Bruce repeatedly harangued her about the need to alter her wardrobe to be Hulk-flexible. She paid attentiin to that for her traini g arc in frumpy/sport clothes, but adamantly refulsed to budge on her Professional attire, and the joke was made. She is now Outed and can expect to be rapidswitching forms in all settings now. She LEARNED her lesson from Bruce. Cut to Ep 2 and she SHOWS she has more flexible professional attire at the BAR NIGHT before she gets hired and has acquired a modest assortment of Spandex+Stretch material clothing, even though not yet aware of the "Work AS She-Hulk" clause, she has 4 warm braincells and may, JUST MAY be able to forsee that "Superhuman Law Division" cases could develop into situations where she should at least be prepared to change. It is one of the few times thay are actually NOT inconsiatent, and another "Bruce was right" moment is reaffirmed.

I think she-hulk varies on how her 4th-wall breaks. The serum they gave him before he became abomination messed with his mind is his claim. He's basically saying it caused his behavior to go so extreme. And it very well could be the case, if it was based on the same serum Captain America got, it is supposed to amplify everything about you, the good and the bad. He became a super soldier, but it amplified his worse traits and then he was given another dose that worsened the effect to the point he had the doctor guy turn him into the abomination.
