The thing with Billy, throughout his most of career, is that he never has a set of stories to tell. In his early days he certain routines he would do, but as he grew in stature he just went on stage with nothing planned and just talked to the audience for hours. He is a naturally funny man who loves life, and was born to make people laugh.

Billy has a backlog of stories he can use. It will be up to him to decide which one to use. Invariably he will change the story, as he assumes he's told the story before. All this is done onstage.

The story is true. It was told to him by his sister Florence, who gave Billy some of his best material, and was told to her by a friend who was a Supply teacher and she was on her way to her job. Flo would tell him the story and he would tell it his way. But he would never make Flo out to be a liar, so the story is true.

@@ladykaycey Every Town Has One is as I said it was. I believe it's on KZbin if you want to check. Billy did another routine based on the time he was an apprentice, when he discovered the lame workers employed by the shipyard were allowed to go home an hour before everybody else so they weren't caught up in a crowd of people rushing to get home. Part of the routine involved Billy Imitating these lame workers walking.

A very talented story teller. He started out as a welder in the Glasgow shipyards and played in a folk band and morphed into comedy. He's an accomplished Actor on of his best roles was in the film Mrs Brown which tells the story of a close relationship between Queen Victoria and one of the game keepers (John Brown) on her scottish estate after her husband died. Ssdly he's now suffering with Alzheimers living in Florida with his wife Panela Stevenson and is expressing himself through artwork.

True story (sadly). I worked at a tourist attraction called York Dungeon. It's a historical horror museum with a number of small performances in it. One called the judgment if sinners where I played a judge. I called a member of the public into the dock to start the show only to find it was Billy Connolly. Turned out he was performing at the opera house next door. I had to continue and accused him of being a cross dressing prostitute who was robbing men. He took it very well.

I once opened a door for a woman (I do it all the time for anyone) and she said "I should think so!", I couldn't believe she'd said that as it was something I do all the time. I let go of it immediately knowing it had a very strong springed hinge due to the windy location (the reason I held it open) and it slammed into her. I hope she got the message from that action & was a little more curteous in future. No pleasing some people!

_A little person is one of the more than 200 medical conditions known as dwarfism. Dwarfism is a medical or genetic condition that usually results in an adult height of 4'10” or shorter, although in some cases a person with a form of dwarfism may be slightly taller than that_ _There are two main categories of dwarfism -- disproportionate and proportionate. Disproportionate dwarfism is characterized by an average-size torso and shorter arms and legs or a shortened trunk with longer limbs. In proportionate dwarfism, the body parts are in proportion but shortened_ My aunt is a proportionate dwarf, it is actually a recognised condition. She's actually married to a huge 7ft tall giant of a man, a big, heavy "Andre The Giant" type build. We never saw anything wrong with them giant and dwarf. The stigma comes from you not them. Why is a person's size or the real terminology for it so stigmatised you aren't even say it? You're the one with the problem not them, it's probably why this dwarf on the bus flew into a rage, years of people like you deciding the very word is unacceptable...
@GrilloTheFlightless
@GrilloTheFlightless Жыл бұрын
It’s a bit like the word ‘spastic’. It’s a medically correct term to describe a condition that relates to muscular spasms (which is usually applied to cerebral palsy, although not exclusively so). My grandmother used to help raise money for a U.K. disabled charity called The Spastics Society. But the word got hijacked and turned into something derogatory, even though it really isn’t. The Spastics Society was renamed Scope and you can’t even say “I’ve got a spastic colon”, which is what irritable vowel syndrome used to be called. And when English singer Ian Dury, who was disabled himself, released a song called Spasticus Autisticus for the National year of the disabled, no radio station would play it. I think too many people are worried about causing offence where there isn’t really any to be taken. The word ‘dwarf’, when used in a biological context, means something that is smaller than is usual for its type or species. Why the word ‘little’ is considered less offensive than ‘dwarf’ is a mystery to me because they both mean pretty much the same thing.

@@GrilloTheFlightless Words only get highjacked or redefined if you let them do it... It's common practice now to redefine words and censor others, don't let them. The language is being used to control people instead of permitting clear communication. If you fear insulting someone - you don't communicate clearly and you tend to find relations deteriorate, or you fail to get your intent across. Language is there to prevent fighting as a first response. If you can't tell them your pissed-off you end up showing it... An insult is far better than a physical confrontation.

You can watch all of his stand up dvds one after the other, back to back, and you will never hear him tell more than a small handful of "proper jokes". He just tells funny stories and because he's so animated and a colourful character he just takes you on journey through that story. This is a 10 minute video with 1 lousey punchline at the end that would never normally get a laugh. It's terrible. But they way he tells it is where the comedy comes from. Most comedians build you up to a big finish and a big laugh. Billy doesn't do that. He keeps you laughing constantly. And probably why he was voted the comedian's best comedian ever. It was a public vote, where you could tick a box or text a number. He was voted the best comedian by his peers and other comedians. So that says something...

why the hell can't we say dwarf i find it is more offensive to say little people or little person when saying little person are you saying a baby or what even a dwarf says that they are a dwarf we can't even say the title of a story it has to be snow white and the 7 little people no f that it is snow white and the seven dwarfs it's the same for baa baa BLACK SHEEP now it's ba ba whatever sheep so what about the rolling stones song paint it black you know what i mean right Political correctness gone wrong and now to the video billy always wore that T-shirt it was to bring him luck on stage and it was his image and most of the stories are from life from him or friends and some made up that's what make the big yin great
