The train at the end is a 1962 tube stock as it still has the post office moquette as it was known as. Initially 4 1962 tube stock trains were transferred from the Central line to the Northern line in 1984 then in 1995 the remaining units were sent over following the full introduction of 1992 tube stock. The 1962 tube stock made it's last ever run in passenger service on Thursday 11th November 1999.

It's nice to see old days of London underground station

The old scissor door "manned" lifts recalled a bygone age. The feathered arrow signs evoked similar sentiments.

I liked the old Hampstead lifts that had a bench seat, luxury

With a journey time of almost a minute, it may have been a necessity for some!

To think that these lived longer than the lifts they replaced is really amusing... I believe after this replacement they were replaced yet again in the 2010s

What a fantastic video. Thank you for sharing it. Did you know that the lower lift landing to northbound platform passageway was built large enough to allow the first locomotives and carriages to be lowered into the system for test running before the line opened in 1890?

Yes, although I didn't know it when I did the live commentary, I mention it in the captions at 4:04

@@NHGMitchell ah, only just spotted it in the captions. I love the 1980s underground videos. 1986 was my first solo visits to London.

Are these old enough to have been installed by the CSLR?
@NHGMitchell2 жыл бұрын
The original 1890 CSLR lifts were hydraulic, IIRC. These Otis lifts were installed when the line was being remodelled 100 years ago.
