Apparently Williams are asking $20 mil from RB to release Sainz on his contract. Then RB will have to sign Sainz to a new contract, which will probably end up costing RB anywhere between $30-$40 million at the end of it all when they could have just signed Sainz straight up for $10-$15 million. What a bonehead move to hold on to Perez for so long. This works for Williams as well. Paying Sainz $10mil a year to maybe finish in the points was a waste. Now, they can pay Colapinto at a rookie rate and use that saved money to develop the car. Sainz going to RB and Colapinto staying on at Williams is a win-win. Sainz will be bringing in money to the RB side anyways, and RB is so rich that the $40 mil wouldn't mean much to a team who used to outspend the entire midfield before the cost cap. And Williams can keep an F1 level driver on the cheap while continuing to close the gap to the midfield.

People making a big deal about Colapinto not lighting it up in F2 and coming out of nowhere, but here is a fun fact, he is ahead of Antonelli and Bearman in F2 standings, and nobody is talking about their lack of raw proven talent. Close contacts to Colapinto say that Williams it's their Plan A. So it may be true that RB are talking with Williams for Sainz. RB gets Sainz and Williams keep Colapinto. RB are asked to pay to Williams $$$ for Sainz and then more $$$ for Sainz contract. It's a win-win for Williams, since they can use that money to develop the car. RB could get an amazing driver and they should get rid of Perez. Perez sponsors are talking with Colapinto's managment since Mexico, they might sponsor him after Perez leaves RB. Perez and Franco are close friends since his days in F3. As an Argentinian i'd rather see him stay at Williams or go to Aston Martin if papa Stroll kicks once and for all Lance. Just send him to WEC and get someone else.

So, here is some scoop on Colapinto. There are strong suggestions that he will be going to RB. Just watched his manager, Maria, being interviewed post Audi signing Gabriel Bortoleto. The interviewer asked her towards the end, from 1-10, what is the likelihood that Colapinto will be in F1 in 2025, she responded "20". The interview was very telling, she was very professional and denied there being anything, denied commenting on the RB and Horner interest, but yet, when they asked her on the likelihood, she responded 20. There aren't a lot of seats left, so RB is the one that rings true. Lastly, I dont think Lawson would move up to main car, i just dont see it. Colapinto's rise in argentina brought big backers out of nowhere. Im sure their commitment to RB will be measured by which seat they offer him, and knowing how much red bull likes money, i would think putting him and the sponsors on the main car make the most sense.
@17Jnico19 сағат бұрын
To add more, in the same interview they showed her a piece of an interview before Franco joined F1. They asked her the exact same question "Maria, from 1 to 10, what are the chances of having Franco in F1??" The answer was 20. She repeated it now. It's more than telling, surely they're waiting for RB to solve their problems and then announce it.
@polyethylene8719 сағат бұрын
@@17Jnico aaaand, lets not forget Ruber Daray, the guy that broke Colapinto's debut in F1 that no one saw coming, said it's simply pending announcement. I just dont see so many reputiable people talking this way without any background guarantees. The spanish media is doing a great job covering these things, not to say that english analysts/content creators/media arent doing a good job, but they are missing out on some of the details that the spanish media is picking up on. Maria wouldn't even entertain mentioning teams, yet when they asked her Colapinto's chances to be in F1 next year, she said 20. There is something there.

Colapinto may be better off at Williams - they see something in him and will probably move him into Albon's seat. To me Redbull is shaky, they have had high staff turnover and Verstappen may follow Newey sooner than later. Redbull do not seem to want Tsunoda, that leaves a lot of openings, it may turn into a meat grinder for drivers at Redbull. Aston Martin is the team to watch. Lawrence Strolls huge investment is fast outgrowing son Lance and Alonso's years are running out.

Personally I don’t rate Hadjar very highly. His 2023 campaign should’ve had him out of the RB driver academy, as drivers with much better performances got the boot too. I’m convinced least about this year F2 as we’ve seen from Prema and their drivers the teams are very inconsistent with who is competitive. Maybe campos have got it right this year and he’s capitalised. Finally his FP1 outings were woeful. Miles off the back of the grid and getting in everyone’s way, especially silverstone.

Colapinto could have done better in quali, but this was his first wet weekend. And his crash in the race came during the worst part of the weather. Bearman didn't do all that well in the wet either.
