Momoshiki didn't get lucky. He chose Boruto. He was the perfect vessel because of Naruto and Hinata's Six Paths genetics. Naruto had Hagoromo chakra and Hinata had Hamura chakra. That's why Momoshiki said he'd strongly inherited the power of the Otsutsuki. There's no way Boruto would have been able to keep up with a fatigued Momoshiki, but they didn't know that. Right before he was 'defeated' by Boruto, Momoshiki froze time, went right through the Rasengan, implanted the karma into Boruto, and allowed the Rasengan to vaporize him. That's why Sasuke looked so worried.

@Opinan Los Jóvenes RD We don't know, there is no evidence that Kawaki has any biological ancestors related to the Otsutsuki like Boruto does. Maybe it's not as much DNA as it's just to affinity or something, Boruto is weird anyway thanks to Jogan shenanigans. Untill we know exactly what makes them a good vessel it's impossible to say because as of now Kawaki has no ties to Otsutsuki heritage like Boruto has but he is still a perfect vessel

It's literally explained episode 206. Karma can absorb any chakra based attack like Ameterasu but not real physical things like Natural rivers or fire. And Jigen also could not shrink it because of how weakened he is, at full power Jigen could have just shrunk the flames despite the fact they can't be absorbed.
