1:39:39 wat nick is doing is the traditional version of the kamehameha that master Roshi and the others use in dragon ball. I’ve always explained it away in my head that as Goku got stronger in Z he was able to pull it off faster by shortening the movements in these faster fights like with hand seals in naruto.

Okay I just caught up to Oshi no Ko and “doing nothing” is stretching it. He’s like “no this is not a thing that’s gonna happen”. To completely play devils advocate, he isn’t necessarily struggling with not getting together with her, he’s struggling with a promise he made to a dying child. He’s “letting” her cling, because she’s very insistent, we know this because her personality is very obsessive. He’s also now made sure to try to get him to actively hate him. Idk, I’m not saying it’s not fucking weird, just that there’s more moral dilemma than normal. And you can’t claim she’s fully a child if you’re using the same argument for him. She’s now 28 according to your argument, which I agree with, but it puts a double standard on it when “he can’t do that, he’s mentally almost 40” and then turn around and go “she can do whatever she wants, she’s a child, he’s taking advantage”. Not saying that what you meant, just that it’s kind of a logical fallacy

Generations as a group you could refer to and assign characteristics weren't a thing until the Baby Boom generation. The Greatest generation and the Silent generation were named retroactively. Gen X got the name through the media searching for a way to define them, and they came to be known as the most individualistic generation yet.

Danny mentioning Medabots has healed my inner-child. I grew up playing the Medabots game on GameBoy and I absolutely loved the anime. It's a shame it wasn't popular in the US, because I think it had serious potential to be a huge brand. It was the best parts of Pokemon and Mecha-animes all in one.

Danny getting through more than one episode of SAO deserves a medal. Binge vs Weekly, I converted to be more of a manga reader which made me more into binging the anime cause I already know what happens from reading the manga weekly. & where one episode can be good or bad taking on the whole seasons gives a more complete story.

Nick’s points are so unreasonable. Yes Rudy doesn’t get punished at the start bcs they are building up for him to be broken down later on. Saying Mushoku tensei is terrible because of how horny it is and how it shows continued sexual assault as well as other general crimes after only watching the first arc is insane. Like imagine if someone were to watch the first arc of Naruto and say “no actually this show is terrible because it glorifies child soldiers. Why would I watch a show that promotes child soldiers? The rest of the show must be terrible. Everyone should stop watching this!
@micah459

Thing is, what characters like Rudy, they never really actually face consequences for their creepy actions but instead get a slap on the wrist and continue being creepy. Master Roshi is another example of this. It's like anime wants to show characters being perverts without actually calling out that it's bad. There's a reason why SA is on the rise in Japan
@andrithorkristensson2545

@@micah459 I would agree with you except Rudy absolutely gets punished in the series. It’s just a build up. He treats the world like a game and later gets called out for his behavior by other characters who have just had enough of his shit. We also see that a big part of his perverted personality is kind of a front that he has bcs he wants to view himself as a the harem protagonist of this world. When he actually gets down the the henky penky he looses all his false confidence and almost talks his way out of it. Rudy gets emotionally broken in the series and is absolutely punished for being actual scum. I mean just look at his erectile disfunction in season 2. So much of season 2 is about Rudy learning to let go of his perverted personality
@micah459
@micah459 Жыл бұрын
@andrithorkristensson2545 when I say punish, I don't mean him facing hardships, I'm talking about him facing consequences that were caused due to his perverted nature. Also, by the end of the series he's still a pervert just not as bad and ends up getting the harem he fantasize about anyway. So him being a pervert isn't really a front, it's who he actually is.

It's kinda difficult to argue that if isekai anime ever had golden age that it ain't right now. Pretty all the series that are considered the greats of the genre are getting adapted or came back (or about to) after long hiatus between season. ReZero. Mushoku Tensei. Konosuba. Overlord. Ascendance of the Bookworm. Whatever your opinion on MT might be, it's widely considered the best isekai alongside ReZero, and it's anime adaptation regarded as one of best light novel adaptations we ever had.
@whitenobeard

Yeah but the golden age is when those were all first releasing. They might be back, but there's an objective dark age going on for isekai right now. These are just the lights in the dark. Every isekai is the exact same incel wet dream, "sad, pervy incel, who never did anything in life is reborn as some kind of overpowered God in some rpg template world" there's very, VERY few good ones right now. For example the slime isekai is really good imo.

32:24 Spoilers for anime/manga readers: You obviously aren't gonna watch the show from how you are phrasing it, but basically he kind of got forced into marrying Eris, he never intended to go through with it, she was an insurance plan made by Rudeus and his at the time family because Rudeus's family was being held hostage and he was getting blackmailed into going on a Suicide Mission because someone either wants Him gone or the person that will probably kill him to be gone(in reality he just wants both to be gone and no way he would let Rudeus go, but Rudeus doesn't really have an alternative choice so he is stuck with one of two decisions) so Eris who was pretty decently strong(he hates her at this point and hasn't seen her in years) was sent a marriage proposal so that maybe, just maybe if Rudeus did well enough in his fight, that she could finish the job. Unfortunately that didn't happen because as impressive as Rudeus seems and actually was throughout that whole fight, he got turned into a vegetable and lost completely and Eris while being strong was nothing in front of the problem. Things happened and Rudeus is now helping the guy who he just lost to in exchange for that guy agreeing to protect his family by providing his services in taking down a certain person(Rudeus has a significantly better reputation then the guy who just beat him so that's why the offer works) and now Rudeus has to complete his end of the deal and marry Eris as his 3rd wife, but even then he did not like Eris much at all at first and it took him a short while to grow any feelings for her again. As for his 2nd wife Roxy(because i can kind of feel you trying to bring that up as a problem) he did nothing wrong in doing this, infact i am actually proud at his maturity in actually being the bigger man and looking past what Roxy did (while conspiring with another character) by tricking an emotionally depressed Rudeus into thinking that he SA'd Roxy when in reality its kind of the other way around(although Rudeus isn't completely exempt from blame for letting himself be reduced to such a state), this misunderstanding with a nudge from another character propelled Rudeus to consider the option of marrying Roxy, he didn't actually agree to marry her right away and waited until he got back to his actual wife, and then after a very lengthy and difficult conversation, it was allowed by his wife Sylphy that Roxy can be Rudeus's second wife. Context exists, Mushoku Tensei's first half is about the Redemption of Rudeus Greyrat, a borderline Pedophile into a decent acceptable human with a relatively acceptable moral compass, the other half is about a lot of other things but even in that part he still grows, as a brother, as a father, as a husband, as a son and as a human. Just because there isn't some instant karmic system that immediately punishes Rudeus for his wrong doings doesn't mean the story condones those things, it could mean that its just being realistic and showing that a persons bad actions don't always get punished, but at the same time if that person has any drive for self-improvement then its possible for them over a myriad of different related or unrelated experiences to realize that what they did was wrong and that they made a mistake. If Mushoku Tensei punished Rudeus everytime he did something bad, it would look closer to a childrens moral lesson book then a story about a otherwise hopeless loser's attempt at redemption. I would probably recommend you watch a review video from Psyculturists, he is a psychologist who analyses anime from a psychological perspective, and he sort of showed why Mushoku Tensei is a great show, why Rudeus, just like any human regardless of there flaws deserves an opportunity to try to redeem themselves as long as he has the will for redemption and change, he also puts into perspective how difficult and time consuming and trial and error filled change can be. So I highly recommend that if you didn't like Mushoku Tensei for the sole reason of "its condoning pedophilic acts" you watch one of his early videos on Mushoku Tensei, he might even have a general review video up.

@@micah459 Slavery is an economy in this world that supports the livelyhood of millions of innocent people in certain countries, especially the one Rudeus is in right now. Even if Rudeus spent his entire life fighting it(something he does not have the luxury to do thanks to Hitogami) he wouldn't make much of a dent. I'm obviously not saying it's good but it's also not something Rudeus as a character has any answer for, actually you could argue that Rudeus's Organization(for spoiler reason I won't elaborate) fixed some of the slave problem.

He literally had to clarify it is because people couldn't seperate when he made the statement it came from him saying how Rudeus feels about it not him. That's like saying Isayama likes genocide because Eren commits genocide. Rudeus stops slave traders so I wouldn't say he is for slavery just realistically its more complicated to stop a system like this, not something you can just punch to solve.

I think the problem with Issekai is it gets used for lazy storytelling and to facilitate bad tropes rather than having an actual purpose in the story. The Issekai element in Jobless Reincarnation and many other offenders exists so the mangaka can infodump you and have it lazily justified because the MC is also new to the world, and also so these weird fantasies of old man has 12 year old haram but its okay for some reason can exist. I think for Issekai to be a proper genre of anime again there will have to be stories told where the being reborn has significant and pervasive impact on the story for example clashing idealogies from their old and new world and having to come to grips with it or bringing knowledge from your old world to better the new world (think Dr Stone but Issekai).

36:35 you guys will obviously not watch or read this in the foreseeable future so i will spoil this for you. Spoilers for anime/manga readers and some LN readers as well: Rudeus's soul definitely left his body and ended up in the vicinity of the Six-Edged World but he didn't reincarnate, he was sort of just floating there about to die, it was a time travelling Cursed/Blessed child who is also responsible for the Matastasis Disaster(literally two episodes from where you appear to have dropped the show, a giant explosion ingulfed a province sized land mass and teleported everything at its surface including people all across the world) she just saw his soul about to die and also saw that Zenith's child who was being born in the area she was in(I would assume she was drawing her magic circle which lead to the disaster that i mentioned before, and that's why she was in the area) was gonna be still-born so SHE reincarnated Rudeus, it wasn't some act of God or something it was literally just some person who did it to "save" a otherwise dead child.

Or the guy who overcame his flaws and became a great father, a great husband, a great brother, and a great friend. Everybody has made mistakes in there lives at some point, some made ones that were worse then others, but as long as they grew past the mistakes, why is it that there mistakes from the past are the only things you want to talk about. Does a Pedophile not deserve the right to be provided help services if they have a drive to change? Does a rapist or murderer also not deserve the right to be provided help services for possessing the aforementioned drive? Sounds pretty reductive and dehumanising to me. These people are the way they are because of a psychological problem, whether that's biological or through a bunch of unhealthy experiences(whether those were a result of there actions or there environment). They are responsible for there actions but they also have to right to be given ample options to redeem themselves provided they possess the will to change, no society is a humane society if all it does is bring people down for there worst moments and not be able to try and bring out either the best from those people or acknowledge there growth and accept them for there growth. Imagine a drug addict goes through 10-15 years of therapy and comes out great but all people say and remember about him is that he IS a drug addict not that he WAS a drug addict and he's just better at controlling himself now or something.. kind of a pathetic response from the morally high class society now isn't it? Rudeus is being treated similarly to that drug addict by viewers I feel, where they are giving up on him at a point in time where he hasn't even begun to take baby steps and then labelling him by whatever acronym they feel like for the rest of his life. Really disappointing display from the supposedly morally just and superior modern society.

Also he says he is a 30+ year old man but he is a 30+ year old man who never develops because he never leaves his house so he has the mindset of a child. When it comes to slavery in the LN they explain there is no way he would be able to free all slaves while he is powerful he would have an entire country after him and he is not powerful enough to defeat an entire country. While def weird, in Japan you can marry your first cousin. So that is more of a Japanese culture thing cuz their Prime Minister in 2010 was married to his 1st cousin.

I would like to believe they don't talk about Inuyasha because, let's remember, that when it comes to story writing, it wasn't a shining star. I watch it like 5 times a year. And often let it play while I sleep. It's very comforting. Buuttt. The final arc is so bad that it in no way should be discussed. But maybe that's not it.

Mushokou Tensei is about a dude who had a rough go of it in his original life, and even being reincarnated in his new life still suffers from past trauma and it's about his growth as a person and a character. Don't get me wrong he is flawed for sure, but expecting him to change the entire world and its systems is crazy. He isn't even an all powerful character, he can just cast magic without incantations, which others in the world can do. I would watch gigguk's review of the show because it's honestly what made me want to give the show a try and I love it

i will say, Bryce Papenbrook voices a lot of protagonists in anime, and most I don't like, but he does an excellent job with Rin, the MC of Blue Exorcist. I think the problem with a lot of his roles is mostly casting and direction because with rin, who's like, a goofy punk sort of kid, his voice fits a lot better than more serious acting characters, like kirito and eren. his inosuke voice is just weird though, i have no idea what anyone involved with that decision thought they were doing.

Nick won the draft. Getsuga tenshou is a great pick. Kamehameha is most definitely the most iconic move in anime. Rasengan, chidori, shadow clone are probably the top 3 most iconic moves from Naruto, followed by eight trigrams 64 palm technique and then probably 1000 years of death. I would also go spirit bomb, dodon ray, special beam canon, garlick canon, uuh Vegeta's flash beam thing, hellzone grenade and Tien's triangle palm explosion technique. Rock paper rock by Gon is great. Honestly that, bungee gum and kurapika's chains are the most iconic ones from HxH.

Love this podcast! Nick, move your wrists away from eachother and you'll have the Kamehameha motions right. Danny, the Shadow Clone Jutsu is a plus sign with 2 fingers on each hand. Bankai is also a transformation so Nick's gonna have to stick to Getsuga Tenshou, Id argue the Sharingan is also a kind of transformation but if he said something like Kamui or Amaterasu then Id give it to Danny. Ngl tho, I think Nick takes this one, as much as I want Nick to get homework lol Ngl I also dont like Boruto's change, it feels like its missing something but I think everyone else looks great too tho

@Nah_I-ll_Win

TBATE is Mushoku Tensei but take out the Rudeus's pretty realistic (obviously not entirely) journey of growth and self improvement and replace it with a boring dude that is only intelligent when the author writes slice of life and the second anything complicated happens MCs IQ drops to 12. Mushoku Tensei is good because Rudeus is shown to make mistakes and sometimes get away with them while other times regrets them in the long run. Just because YOU didn't have the patience and trust in Rudeus's ability to improve himself and see that moment of him in regret and understanding and realization about why what he was doing was bad doesn't mean the story didn't have it, just means you were ignorant to it because of YOUR choice to not continue which is perfectly fine and within your rights and stuff, however it does not mean you ought to be going around making false remarks about the show, because your reasoning is objectively faulty and not in line with the contents, themes and messaging of the show, so it's no longer an opinion but just slander.

As to why there are so many infuriating concepts (that have now become tropes because of how often they are used) in anime that have these amazing stories and worldbuilding, I think it comes down to the need to break through the noise barrier. If you told me, "hey, there's this show about the idol and youtube industry and its dark side" I would think I would watch it eventually, and then not, but if you said "Guy gets reincarnated as an idol's child and then goes on a murder mystery while gaining popularity as an idol himself" I would watch it to see how crazy it gets. And that's what I DID! I've only watched two episodes, but it got my foot in the door. The problem is that then these master crafted stories then have to drag the initial premise along. PS. For your point at 46:00 God of Highschool (and I can't believe I'm saying this line) read the manwa (Webtoon). The pacing and story is fine because it's not condensed and chopped up. I speed read 300 chapters during spring break because I could not put it down. Yes the animation for the fights is amazing because the choreography for the webtoon is amazing, but so is everything else. It is purely a failure of adapting from one medium to another. If you still don't want to read it, the final villain of the series is THE best fleshed out character in all of anime and manga.

Pikachu does have an electric ball attack. Electro ball is the name. Also, jate to be that person but im kindky telling you, you're wrong Nick. About jobless. I almosy dropped it for the same reasons but (not that ive seen it all, only season one) it does keep me invested because it's a story of his growth but its slower than most shows so of course the pacing makes it seem weird. So far though imo i like it and prefer this as more "realistic" yet i don't know what i think with Eris. I love her character but idk if i like them together at all. I don't think i do. But i love the reat of the show so much that I'm going to watch the new season. And Boruto slaps this chapter. Glad you enjoy it. I love Sarada's character design along with Boruto and Shukidaki's despite it's common looking pieces. Thanks for anothwr fun episode! Danny won the draft imo btw.
