Bosch Diagnostic walkthrough on an Orbea Wild E-bike

Have you ever wondered what the Bosch diagnostic software shows the bike technician when you take it for a service. A simple walkthrough on an Orbea wild and Bosch software.
Although this bike came in with intermittent issues the diagnostics detected no errors as the bike was running as it should when connected. Further investigation required.

Great video thanks. Its an absolute disgrace that this software is dealer only. There is nothing that I have seen, that an educated owner could not do and the data and info provided is a great tool for prevention of issues. I bought my bike and I own it, but high and mighty Bosch decree that dealers are the only people who can update software.

Hi Andrew, tanks for your comments. Bosch seem to want to keep a hold of who is allowed access, Shimano allow updates via a phone app. Bosch are going more and more dealer based, the new bosch smart system uses a web interface provided by bosch linked directly into bosch tec, the whole system is diagnosed and administered online.

In the "ebike configuration", you see a no. (2340) for wheel circumference. It looks like it can be set between 750-3000, and underneath fine-tuned. Is the "Wheel circumference" a fixed value set by Bosch, that even dealers can not change? What if I want to use my bike on my private farm-land, racing my daughter in the gokart - can you as a dealer unrestrict my (it is after all MY bike) for that? If not, is the dealer 3 times reset (504 caused by tuning) a Bosch policy or is it build in as a "self-destruct" mode?

Thanks for the informative video. I have one question, is there any setting to be changed in the software if i want to change from spoke to rotor magnet? Making this conversion will make the on-pulse length significantly longer. Will this trigger an error code? Probably need to change the sensor to the slim version also to make it fit. My bike is CX Gen4 2021 (not smart system). Thank you for any information!

Thanks for the video. Considering getting one of these bikes, had a few questions on this side of things. (1) is it possible for user to see what version firmware is being run without the software (so I can check whoever sold the bike has updated it to the latest version)? (2) What happens to the bike when "next service" is reached? (3) What data/features under "Maps"?

Hi, great video! I would never update if there is some issue. The first thing is to diagnose and study the issue. The update may erase all the information available. I would never put service reminder either or I would ask from the customer if she wants to have it.

Are people getting less 504 errors on the new update brought out this September 2021....I'm running smaller crank and larger front ring and getting 504...so would really like to know if moving forward to this new update is likely better and or if perhaps bosch have tamed / dampened down the sensitivity slightly in this new version and or at least if that's not the case maybe you could let us know if it has perhaps been made even more sensitive? Hi, great question. When manufactures order new motors for their bikes Bosch ask for d etails of which cassette and front ring they will be running, the motors are then programmed for that, gearing when end users change them parameters by charging front rings for bigger or smaller ones it upsets the motors as they can’t ready the cadence hence the errors. Motets are sensitive to this but it’s difficult to say by how much, we can’t change these parameters in the software only magura and Bosch can do it

Awe thanks buddy really enjoying your how to videos....I've been through 3 sets of 165 cranks so had to go to shorter 160mm on the cube At 160....the bigger ring was a bad boy trick to get more speed and less wear on the final drive ....all works great 👍.....except for the 504....the question is have they reduced the sensitivity for 504 on the 1150 update or am I best just staying in 1120...thanks

I purchased a used Urban Arrow ebike with a Bosch Performance Line CX motor and Bosch Intuvia display. I brought the bike into my local bike shop in the US and they hooked it up to this Bosch Diagnostic software and it didn't work. They weren't able to download any updates or connect to the bike. The original owners of the bike purchased it in Germany. We thought maybe there was some incompatibility issues with European vs North American software and that's why we could not connect. Is there any way to resolve this issue? It would be nice to get the diagnostics and update the software used by the bike. Someone said in the comments that this software is only for dealers, is that correct?

Hi Thom, Sorry you have had connection issues. It shouldn't matter where the bike is from it will connect to the bosch system diagnostic, Im not sure how far you got with the connection process but your bosch dealer shouyld be able to sort it out between speaking to bosch tech. It may have been that the display was faulty not allowing a connection, no matter what the issue is your bike shop can sort it. Yes the software will only connect if its licence to a dealer.

Hello Dave ! I got brand new Trek Rail 9.5. Zero mileage bike. I changed the factory Purion to Nyon. The problem is that after turning on the display, the Remote Control does not work every time. I have to turn it off and on and at some point the remote control works. New bike, new Bosch Nyon set. Have you faced a similar problem in the past?

Hi, Ive not had that problem but the remote works through the nyon unit then down to the motor, double check all the connections, did you buy a retro kit complete with the remote fitted to the nyon unit?

@@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic Exactly, I bought a new complete set of Nyon Retrofit. There is nothing unusual about connecting this set. One wire loom goes from the motor to the display mount (4 pins at the mount), the second wire (3 pins) goes from the display mount to the remote control. I noticed that if I take the computer out of the mount. Will turn it on when not mounted on the bike. And so turned on earlier, it will mount to the bike's mount, so the remote control works every time.

Hi, Thanks for watching. the initial programming is done buy the bike manufacturers not by bosch. If a now motor is supplied by bosch as a warranty replacement it is sent to Magura for programming for the bike that its going into.

Woud be great to have a simplified update tool, specially for people like me who live remote and don't even have a dealer in the country to update simple error codes. Years ago i had an issue with my Cube reaction hybrid, 504 code (without speed chips) and had to do the telegram hacking software journey, i'll be forever grateful to bitslover, who made it possible for me to update and restore bike e-mtb. Although i did successfully do the hilarious drill method, after 3 error codes the engine supposedly stops working and a reset is needed/forced by bosch. Now i'm facing the same issues and im looking for new hacked software. I'm even checking local car dealers with Bosch diagnostic software but i doubt it'll work/read my e-bike. Shame on bosch!

What do you think, Dave, of de-restriction? My thoughts are that although the limit of 15.5mph assistance is very 'tame' (20 would be ideal), there's no way I would fit any 'chip'. Not that it would be dangerous (I can hit way over 20 on the flat pedalling) but: A. Its illegal and could result in serious consequences if found out, because in effect you are riding a motor vehicle with no tax or insurance. B. The electronics are so clever they could detect and throw up an error code, voiding warranty. I daresay you would agree with the above, but what do you think of the 15.5mph assistance limit? Does the fact that this software is 'dealer only' mean that bike maintenance becomes more expensive? In the old days, with a few tools, we could all maintain our own bikes. I mean, good for you of course but not for us mere owners!

Hi John, Thank you for watching and your comment. such a topic for debate, for me personally I am against de-restriction although I do understand why you might want it lifting to 20mph, there are many reasons why people buy ebikes, I think a great reason to by an ebike is that you struggle on a normal bike due to a health reason or you are in an older age bracket. There is nothing wrong with just wanting an ebike to ride further but to ride faster than a normal bike can go seems wrong to me, they should by a motorbike ,yes there could be a warranty issue and possible error messages but that still doesn't stop some people from doing it.

US Ebikes are limited to 20mph, making the "tuning" a lot less an issue..... The Euro 25kph is too fast in teh dense city, and too slow overland..... Typically EUro....
