Enjoyed the air fryer 'accessories' video and found it most informative. Would like a review of the Ninja Speedi air frier and its double element (one fan assisted at the top and a second at the bottom) heating for the food. Great for rice, pasta, lentils etc, just pour in dry then pour on water and add some frozen veg. Stir, turn on for approx 15 minutes and ready meal!

I like the silicon bakeware but I do have to agree with you on the heat transfer issue.I'm new to Air Frying so I'm still just dipping my toe in with main meals and snack foods at the moment. Saying that I've just realised I used the main oven this morning to cook spare ribs instead of the Air Fryer. I now microwave my pasties/sausage rolls for a minute or 2 then put them in the Air Fryer for the pre-heat cycle to crisp them up, no-one likes soggy pastry from the microwave.

Place the parchment paper liners on the bottom of the air fryer with the removable grate on top thus ensuring that the air convection circulation is reaching the underside of the food. Yes, you will need to clean the grate but that is quite simple.

Very nice review. I have one of the shelf based air fryers - looks like a mini conventional oven. 3 racks but not a huge amount of 'clearance' between them if you use all 3. To stop cross contamination the urge is to put food on the top / middle / higher rack on some kind of baking tray. That's fine BUT make sure that your baking tray or rack allows plenty of air flow around it otherwise the stuff at the bottom won't cook and you will probably overheat the electronics in the top of the air fryer. I found some really sturdy stainless baking trays with racks (on Amazon) that occupy maybe 60% of the shelf / rack. I also found a 4 'pot' yorkshire pudding tin that occupies the full dimensions of the air fryer... that goes on the bottom(not even on a rack) then the middle rack has protein on a tray and the top shelf gets roast potatoes, parsnips etc. - I'm using a Sunday lunch example. You might get away with fabricating a suitable size tray from heavy aluminium foil but it does need to be pretty weighed down with food or it will act as a sail and lift off. I have also found a number of ceramic dishes etc. that fit just fine so fish pies, lasaggne etc. are easy to do but I tend to put them on the lowest rack to avoid overheating the electronics - you can always stick some garlic bread on the top shelf for the last 10 or 15 mins of cooking.

I have had a two drawer Ninja for two years now and agree with so many of your observations. I wish this video had been around earlier because I have learned most of what you have said by trial and error. If using baking parchment to 'line' your air fryer put the parchment under the cold water tap, then scruch it in your hand to wring out the water, pop this into the air fryer. This helps to stop the parchment from flapping around.

Great tutorial on air fryer accessories. Yes, I bought quite a few that I just didn't use. The the flat grease proof liners are very useful. They don't catch everything, but they do most of the heavy lifting. What I do use all the time, though, is a heavy duty cake tin that fits perfectly into my Cosori air fryer. It conducts heat very well, is easy to clean, and practically bullet-proof. Regarding the silicone accessories, well, as you say, a nightmare to clean, and just terrible at conducting heat.

@@CandidClara Thank you so much for your reply! I actually will buy the standard small French tart pans with the removable bottoms and fluted edges-like your Mum's choice! They are great for small quiches, tarts, etc. I am looking forward to your thoughts and experiments regarding eggs (poaching, Scotch Eggs etc.) It would be interesting to see if you could devise a way to bake meringues or tarts with meringue toppings. I suspect it is not possible. Convection ovens (not air fryer) are a no go when baking Meringue unless you like massive amounts of egg whites flying around your oven and adhering to the walls. Its a nightmare. (I once forgot to switch "Convection" off! and merrily left the kitchen. A hard lesson learned when the timer went off!)

"Tante grazie" from "bella Italia" - your informations were ( and will be ) very helpful - and interesting !! Especially the one with the prefilled spray-tins is very interesting - nobody told me about that. Just a suggestion - and please check yourself - ordinary olive oil, which is not made for frying ( and you get those as well ) are not made for very high temperatures - I suggest Rapeseed-oil, which is cheap, newtral and easy to find - and can cope high temperatures... thanks a lot !!
@CandidClara3 ай бұрын
Two hot topics when it comes to air fryers, non-stick coatings and oil types! Personally I use olive oil, in an air fryer where it is not direct on the heat it is unlikely to pass its smoke point, but please feel free to use your choice of oil.
@marechiaro22313 ай бұрын
@@CandidClara Thanks for your quick answer... I have two points as well : First of all not all readers will know about "the smokingpoint", the fact, that olive oil shpuld not be used like the neutral oils. Second of all: Olive oil is not neutral - it always brings a different taste with it ! I do not know, wether you and the readers are aware, that there are olive oils especially produced for higher temperatures. The "problem"" of the additional taste finds no solution with that - but quite often the taste of "oliva" is preferred ... I am living in Italy and we are used to olive-oil quite a lot - we have always 15-20L at home and use it frequently - but as I said not for everything ... Today I used ( for the first time ) an oil-spray - OUTSIDE of the airfryer basket - directly into silicon-muffin-shapes. It worked perfectly - no additional taste, not a single sticky point ...

You can find avocado oil sprays that are safe to use in an air fryer. The problem ingredient in most others is soy lecithin, so just make sure that's not listed on the can. In the US, there's a brand called Chosen Foods that's sold at several of the big grocery stores.

@grahamjohnson4702 Not sure what you're getting at, but it's not really disputed that soy lecithin is the cause of the nonstick surface getting gunked and sticky. There's room for debate on the health impact of various substances you can find in many sprays, but whatever is present is listed on the container. As for the specific spray I mentioned, it contains only avocado oil under pressure. There are no chemicals/propellants/emuslifiers/etc in it.

Like you've pointed out for several of these, we might already have something in our kitchen that will work rather than purchasing something especially for an AF. On the spray oil, I have read that as long as it's a non-aerosol spray pump that only contains the oil, then they're safe to use. I have found several of these locally. I use the spray pumps with only avocado oil, no propellent or anything else.

Bought a silicone liner and will never get one again. They are a royal pain to clean and remove burnt food and stains. Gave it to my daughter who hated it and now it sits in my grandson's bedroom full of crayons lol

This is the best use I have heard for it yet! Perhaps I should make a video about uses for silicone liners you bought and don’t use! 😆

If I fry fries on racks is there no longer a need to flip or shake the fries?
@CandidClara9 ай бұрын
I’m afraid I can’t answer this because I never use a rack, just stick them on the crisper plate and shake halfway, the shaking is half the fun! :-)

I've just been spending an inordinate amount of time researching a reliable oil spray bottle which actually sprays a mist rather than a solid stream of oil. Judging by the many reviews on Amazon etc. for a variety of bottles, this seems to be a real problem with these products irrespective of how much you spend. How have you overcome this problem Clara?
@CandidClara8 ай бұрын
You are correct, it is a problem and I have yet to find a perfect solution, just a “ok” solution… let me know if you find the perfect one!

Hi Clara, are supermarket roasting bags safe to use in an AF. Also is aluminium sheet ok too or will it scratch/damage the non stick coating. I used to use both on my old rotisserie style halogen heat source AF im a novice to my modern Tefal twin basket AF Thanks DougT
@CandidClara5 ай бұрын
The bags are not a good idea, too much risk of them touching the element and catching, as for aluminum sheet, plenty of people do use it, but I prefer non-stick paper as less risk of scratching!

My question is are all these accessories safe and healthy to use?
@CandidClara24 күн бұрын
They wouldn’t be allowed to be sold if they weren’t
@hugoanderkivi15 күн бұрын
@CandidClara That's not true. Non-stick and PFAS equipment is everywhere and allowed to be sold. Something being sold on the market is not a good indicator of its safety.

I haven’t joined the air fryer generation. I just do what my mother and grandmother did when they put the oven on… fill it up with food which will be eaten later in the week. It works out just as cheap and you gain in time throughout the week.
@CandidClara11 ай бұрын
And yet you’re still here…. 🤷♀️🤔😆
@Siberius-10 ай бұрын
Not as cheap. Oh, you mean due to cooking in bulk. Yea in that case an oven may be required, if the bigger dual air fryers aren't enough. Or a benchtop oven... Though even then, it won't be much more (potentially) energy to use the air fryer even twice, over an oven. Some things just don't fit in an air fryer... and other times you just don't need to cook all that much food. Not every food-cooking session is a big meal-planning cook-up.
@Loracanne8 ай бұрын
But they had big families to cook for. I have just me. Using the oven is an expensive waste. It's not the 1950's anymore, families are smaller and living situations many varied.

Sticking a silicon liner in the dishwasher is easier/takes up less space than the entire drawer, and is quicker to wash in the sink than the entire drawer, but I can see why people don't like them. I would rather the disposable ones, but just means a lot of waste and you need to keep buying them.

You don't need 74c for chicken. This has been debunked. If you bring it to 62c and hold it there for 10 minutes, you're at no risk of salmonella. Chris Young has covered this.
@CandidClaraАй бұрын
Yeah, I'll take what the Food Standards Agency says over Chris Young...
@hugoanderkivi15 күн бұрын
@CandidClara As if they're credible? I'd say Chris Young is likely more so in this case, knowing the corruption of institutions.

I wish to point out that the American term you use of 'for free' is grammatically incorrect because 'for' is not a noun therefore it cannot be preceded by for. Please use correct English and drop these incorrect American terms.

Disagree EMPHATICALLY. Paper liners burn ALL the time.

Never had this experience, which ones are you using? Are you putting them in on their own and finding they fly up and catch in the element?!
