I think it would be neat if you made a video or maybe a quick “tech talk” on mechanical rollers on the street. I’ve read mixed opinions on them for the street. Some state high spring pressures will kill the valve train as well as the lifters, and they wouldn’t survive in a street motor. Maybe bushed solid roller lifters would solve this? Also maybe the driving characteristics of big cams down low and at part throttle. Im about to start a 521 with P51 heads and I’m looking for real world cam info. Awesome videos and I always look forward to your videos, keep up the good work!

Nice! I’d be interested to know your projected power peaks, in rpm, torque to horsepower. Also, it seems that this build will require custom headers? Might as well craft a set of 4-2-1 (Tri-Y) headers if that’s the case. I can’t wait to hear it run.

@UnityMotorSportsGarage3 жыл бұрын
Cody, right now I'm shooting to make 750 NA on pump gas... Down the road I'm planning on doing a high compression version and we are going to port the heads and put a real Solid Roller in it and try to hit a 1000... But that is a good way in the future! What is your lobe separation angle, I am just wondering if you have advanced it or not. On small chevys, I have found +4 usually is best. People argue...how do you know, if +4 is wrong, you need to change camshafts anyway
@guywerry66143 жыл бұрын
Hey, dumb question. I grew up in the 70s and was always under the impression that Ford Cleveland blocks were stouter / better for high performance than a Windsor block. Yet, I see lots of videos about guys using Windsor blocks for builds - why, if the Cleveland blocks were better.
@UnityMotorSportsGarage3 жыл бұрын
No it's not a dumb question... Here in NC finding a good Cleveland block is getting hard to do! You are right back in the 70's people built Clevelands because it was the "Good" 351 on the other hand the Windsor was a mundane Engine.. once the Cleveland supply died up around here in the late 80's into the 90's the Aftermarket had developed good Windsor heads and so people began to build the Windsor because it became a cheaper option... I remember when you couldn't even find a true 351 Windsor Cam you had to run the older 289/302 Cams (different firing order) now they all use the 351w firing order.. I can't speak of the strength factor of the Cleveland Block vs the Windsor but I know have seen over 1000hp made with stock Windsor blocks... Poured and studded.. the works.. maybe DragBoss can chime in on the Cleveland blocks and what they can handle @Dragboss

@@UnityMotorSportsGarage Thanks - that makes sense.
@narmale3 жыл бұрын
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage Hey Andy, whats your take on girdles? distortion vs added strength
@UnityMotorSportsGarage3 жыл бұрын
In working with David Vizard.. I found out that having a aluminum girdle over a steel unit will actually dampen out harmonics where as the steel will just transmitte the harmonics. There is also the benefit of tying the main caps together to prevent cap walk...but that doesn't become an issue on a Windsor till you get at or over the 700hp level... Hope this helps! Andy
@narmale3 жыл бұрын
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage right, but the issue im referring to is distortion due to the torque placed on the girdle twisting the mains from tightening the nuts Also isnt fretting never eliminated due to the design of the mains if you dont use hollow dowls on at least two of the bolts?
@needmetal32213 жыл бұрын
Its good that you're being careful and doing it right. You ain't building a shitbox. Modern performance is less forgiving from my experience. Do it right or dont do it at all
