Love all these Boss videos you’re doing. Most demos of these are like 10 years old when pedal demos were in their infancy. I think most people assume you know what they sound like but for people looking for a video on the classics these are really helpful. Love the channel

Loving these Boss pedal videos. Quality in every pedal. Flange for me is like reverb. Used sparingly, it's a nice touch of ambience. Go crazy, and it sounds like a Star Wars blaster sequence.
@Rarebirdeffects Жыл бұрын
YES! Sparingly please everyone! I was turned off of flangers for a long while when I was younger and started hitting the pub. They hired these two guys with acoustics playing your basic pub rock all the time… u can imagine. And he used to kick on a huge swirly flanger for no reason during basically any song. All I could ever think of is “why are we listening to up and down swirling for no reason to the song Closing Time.” As a non guitarist at the time I always just thought. Why? Just why haha.

A friend just gave me this pedal. Its one of the most versatile mod pedals I've used. The controls are sensitive, and it takes time to really master the use of everything it can do, but its worth the time. I replaced my chorus with it, and use the flanger at its chorus setting. It has a little more color. you can copy damn near any mod effect with it.
@beerwolf85182 жыл бұрын
You can get a good rotary type of sound with the res all the way down, depth half way, set manual however you want, and make the speed fast. I like that setting on the normal flanger setting. I usually keep the resonance knob all the way down on this pedal.

I'm actually mildly obsessed with this pedal because it is *the* sound of mid-90s Manic Street Preachers (he was using a BF-2 as far as I know, but eh), especially when you really crank up the speed. I think they were kind of going for that whole Nirvana chorus thing, but it kind of ended up as something else, and it's utterly distinctive.

Bought a BF-2 back in the day. My classical guitar instructor of the time explained how flangers were typically more versatile than choruses. He wasn't wrong, except for the part of me not purchasing an original CE-2. Brian Johns, if you are out there, thanks, and I hope you are well. Best, Daniel :)

I love the flanger. I am convinced that the main riff of Barracuda is done with a flanger and distortion. I keep hearing people say it's a phaser but no matter what I do, I can't get it to sound right. A flanger is easy to get the tone with. Also, the riff in Have a Cigar sounds like it's a flanger. So many used this effect and no one even realizes it. Eddie too maybe?

i love the sound of a flanger as long as it's pre-distortion. then you can get a nice soupy, chewy flange on your guitar sound whether it's clean or dirty. (comparable to dave murray of iron maiden on 'live after death', although i think that was a univibe - you get my drift anyway). often people just put it post-distortion (or effects loop) because that's where modulation pedals 'are supposed to' go but all i get with that is bloody jet-wooshing.
@StrawDogsPu2 жыл бұрын
I prefer the jet-woosh over the pre-distortion craziness, but I also play bass so the woosh is less detracting from the rest of the ensemble most of the time. Tetsuo Sakurai baby B)

I’ve used a Boss BF-2 in the past and I found it to be an interesting ambient effect with rate set low and depth set high. Against a series of arpeggios, it created a nice swirling effect that works on an otherwise clean sound with single coils.

Pretty awful review. You didn't do anything with the manual control, and didn't turn the res all the way down to get more of a chorus tone. A flanger can be made to sound like a chorus or a phaser and you didn't explore those sounds at all. 2/10.
