Boss is an appropriate term for this man. I listen to tons of metal and technical guitar playing but I will always come back to sound. Before I even started playing guitar I loved Bryan Adams. If I were to recommend a starting point for any aspiring player, I would tell them to start with Keith. This is how a guitar should sound.

I've been an active musician for more than 25 years, performing overseas and in big venues as also a music enthusiastic for all my life, more than 40 years now. During this time, I've watched literally thousands of live shows, of all kind of music genres, covering the top worldwide artists and musicians of the past decades. Until now, I've never heard such a live guitar sound. You need to be there to understand how BIG and FULL Keith’s guitar sounds. It has character, amazing tone, presence. World class musician.

Thank you for your post. I totally agree. I think Keith is so underrated because of the genre. Massive and heavy on reckless, sofisticated on Into the fire then followed the pop era of his friend Bryan. Also when silenced by Mutt Lange he could prove his guitar skills and still did it in all those "easy listening" and chart albums. He is brilliant, smart, powerful and talented. If you don't see Bryan Adams live you can't understand how mighty and rough the show is.

He responded to an email question I had for him about a Plexi he used to own that was for sale (locally, not by him), he was kind enough to reply and answered some really inside gear geekery questions about tones he achieved on some of those classic songs. Love his tone, playing and ability to lay down the perfect part. One of the all time greats.

The short solo in the middle is very effective...but the extended outro solo is easily one of the most heart-wrenchingly beautiful solos I’ve ever heard. Keith’s phrasing is absolutely flawless, and his note choices and tone just add extra layers of awesome. That solo punches me right in the gut every time I hear it, in the best possible way, of course. I’ve been moved to tears from it more than once. And there’s hardly any flash on it at all...proof that what you DON’T play can often be more effective than what you DO play. I’d say Keith truly outdid himself on that one...I wonder what space his head was in when he composed it? One of these days, I’ll sit down and learn it, because it’s too good not to be able to play it myself. A true gem of a solo, indeed!

@woodchuk15 жыл бұрын
Mauricio Vazquez Behind the rideout solo on Do I Have to Say the Words, the outro to Cuts Like a Knife would be a very close second on my top favorite KS solos. Just incredibly melodic and impeccably composed. For a pop song, it’s hard to improve on that. The two sections in the solo where he basically climbs all the way up the neck and ends on those screaming bends (once almost at the very end of the fade out) just makes me weak in the knees. And that subtle whammy bar dive in the trill on the first solo...what a great touch! I wish I had half the ear for melodic improvisation that Keith Scott has. Amazing player, and too often overlooked.

Nicest guy ever and always has been. I saw Keith with Bryan Adams on August 17th 1985 in Spokane Washington when I was 21 and he was about 31 and he was quite the Rockstar in all leather up on the stage. The next day I drove to Seattle area to be with my girlfriend and I was walking through South center Mall and I see kind of a short guy of course I'm 6-4 and he had a Bryan Adams t-shirt on and shorts and I thought that's the guy from last night so I approached him very meekly and he confirmed that he was with the Bryan Adams band and was super friendly and started asking me questions about myself like where I was from did I enjoy the show what's my name kind of surprised me. Totally down-to-earth despite having a gorgeous woman on his arm who looked like she didn't want to give me the time of day. We chatted briefly and he was the nicest guy and they played the Tacoma dome that night.

Keith Scott is what every musician should strive for. Guy has tone for decades... and incredible lead guitar solo chops. Throw him a guitar, and he'll rapidly show you how to get the most out of it, simply by playing it, and flipping a few odd switches, and then making a few adjustments to amp and pedal. He's matter of fact about it. No ego, just the desire to get the most out of whatever he's playing on, and through. It's all in a day's work for this guy. I have mad respect, for Scott's ability, and the fact that none of his success has gone to his head. Best of all, he gives credit, where credit is due. Bryan Adams is good at that, too. Both gentlemen are really big, on making sure that the contributing players to their recording and touring successes become recognized for their contributions. I love the fact, that Keith is more than willing to talk shop, with people he just met. Amp settings, pickup selections, amps and pedals used... A lot of guitar players keep that information close, and clam up when asked about it. Keith Scott has never been like that. As a guitarist, this guy can keep up with the best there is, and never bat an eye... I've listened to his work, ever since the "Cuts Like A Knife" record was cut, again with Bob Clearmountain producing and doing the studio tech work. When I heard the first song off of that record, I could remember thinking "MAN, that lead guitarist's tone, is just phenomenal...!" Keith has definitely been a great case study, in wringing the most tone from any Strat, Tele, or Gibson L/P... That being said? Keith's guitar selections have all been winners. All classics, no "trendy" or "new-wave" guitars for this guy. If it isn't well made, then he simply doesn't play it. That goes double for his pedal selections, and his amplification equipment.
