I decided to go for this pedal recently, been watching misc. videos here online… from what I have learned is this one has some wide capabilities but needs some learning curve, call it taming. Initially I was focusing on the Meris Polymoon.. the price difference vs specs. took me to the DD-200! I can clearly hear in your excellent demo, that this pedal does shine brilliantly in ambience soundscapes.. that is actually a bonus to what I thought before! Thanks for your demonstrations, it’s always an inspiration. 🙏🏻

I bought one of these about a month ago. I had a DD-20 back in the day, before selling all my guitar gear after the birth of my son. (Big mistake.) Fast forward 14 years, and I am back into it. I wanted a DD-20 but didn't want to gamble on a used one. So I bought this instead. Mostly I love it but miss the 21 second max delay time. (The DD-200 has a max of 5 seconds.) I also miss the Sound on Sound feature, which allowed one to replicate Frippertronics, with the slow decay of older layers of sound. This pedal having a built-in loop feature, however, nearly makes up for it. I find this unit a little more intuitive and think it has a better/more usable range of delay types. All in all I recommend it highly. I just wish I could put it to as good use as Bill does here!

A huge thank you for doing this demo with the pedal hooked up in stereo! Just how stereo does it get? Does it let you do ping-ponging between left and right on each repeat? Do all settings allow you to tweak something about them for a noticeable stereo effect? To fit into my power supply system on my pedalboard, what voltage does this run on? I looked in their manual and they don't say. What are all the parameters that can be controlled by MIDI? Admission: I don't know much about MIDI (yet) This checks off most the boxes on my "must-have" list. Stereo, MIDI, you can set it by millisecond numbers and the number is displayed, and tap tempo in a reasonably sized package. Too bad it doesn't have an effects loop like the Analog Man to insert something like a phaser into the echo only.

Ive been using the DD20 for many years. Id say That one sits in between the compact pedals and these two DD500 and Dd200. This only seems to have 5-10 second max delay time. The DD20 is 20 seconds ( actually about 22seconds). I use the long delays for Frippertronics. What about the looper on this one.

Suggestion -- great review, but I REALLY wish you had gotten rid of the dotted-8th "galloping" effect when you started stepping through the various delay engines. It was really distracting -- one tends to focus on the "galloping", and the sounds of the different delay types are thus much harder to hear. A much simpler playing pattern when moving thru the delay types would have been much more useful for the listener. Just my $0.02. Thanks!

In addition to BOSS and TCE, Strymon has 3 delays that can do 4 or more seconds: Timeline (with dual delay trick), El Capistan and Volante. Also, the Empress Echosystem has an 8 second option on the Ambient delay type. Another one to mention is the EHX Grand Canyon: While its max is 3 seconds, the build in looper has a loop decay function, which means you can effectively get super long repeating delays.

Pros and Cons of individual pedals? Does it make sound financial sense to spend hundreds, and sometimes thousands of dollars on expensive 'specialty' pedals when we can now duplicate almost any effect with DAW software and plugins or an Kemper, Helix, etc? Personally, I've discovered, after investing $$ in several pedals, that I would have been better off to simply use my laptop or buy a Helix and had all the effects I would ever need. I could even use the output from my AI and run it into a PA if I ever did a live performance.

If I were starting from scratch, a multi-FX is a no-brainer. But if you don't want to mess with software, menus, firmware updates, and so forth, you can still make a pretty solid board for not much more than one of these high-end modelers. My board is a mix of old and new, but as I go, I'm finding that I'm replacing single units with more combo pedals. Just makes sense. Can see pedals like this as "modular mini-modelers."
