Yeah sorry, this one turned out longer, but there is quite a bit to figure out about parallel loops and I wanted to cover it all as well as give you a few ideas to start with.

I know these videos have been out for a long time now, but figured I would offer a tip for those who are new to using effects in parallel. Phase cancellation caused by digital pedal latency can be mitigated by setting the effect on the pedal to 100% wet. This is a basic rule of thumb for all forms of parallel effect processing, whether you’re working with an effect send/return on a mixing console / daw or with signal routing of guitar pedals. You don’t want to have any of the dry signal passing through your parallel chain because it will naturally create phase cancellation if the effect is introducing any amount of latency. And even if the pedal has zero latency and doesn’t cause phase cancellation, you’re still stacking up 2 instances of your dry signal which will make the dry signal louder relative to the level of the effect in the parallel chain (not typically a desirable thing).

You can use the kill-dry option to run delays in parallel and only keep the dry signal of one of them.

I think the phasing issue you were having with the delay was that you need a killdry option on the delay pedal when running it in parallel

The main difference between SERIES and PARALLEL topologies is that the first MULTIPLIES and the second ADDS. This is critical when we connect non-linear boxes. A non-linear multiplication results in more complex results. Any distorsion or compression is nonlinear. A delay is not linear too, non-linear in time. I can´t understand why common FX Loops in guitar amps aren´t in parallel, Reverb and DElay would sound much much better, this is a Basic Mixing Technique.

can put more than 2 pedals into parallel mode? let's say i have 3 pedals. i want both pedals 1 and 2 to get clean input, but i want pedal 2 to go to pedal 3 and i want pedal 1 to go to no other pedals on and then mix with the 2+3 chain before the output.

So cool that you can fade in a fuz along side a dry signal or other loop. You are the GOD of guitar technology. I've been trying to do that parallel fade in of a second loop with the es-5 instead of the es-8. It doesn't have separate volume loop. DO you know of a way to do it with the es-5 and an expression pedal? I'm trying to see if I can keep one loop clean and fade a flanger in in parallel so I still keep my dry signal. It's an e-5. No ability to move the volume pedal around. Thanks :)

Hey let's say with my el capistan I want run two different effects with it I know there's a favorite effect with a expression pedal through the pedal could I do that with es-8 as well like save a particular effect

So, if you can switch the volume loop on & off - can you use a Volume/Expression pedal (like the Dumlop DVP3) as either - depending on how the volume & expression loops are set??

What I love about the Parallel loop feature is I put my OCD in a parallel loop and it made it a "transparent overdrive" and is now my my absolute favorite dirt sound.

what do you think of the musicom lab mk5 its similar but no one has compared the 2 and its hard to find out the difference expesherly when i comes ot using it for stereo

Is there a possibility that two independently editable effect paths go to channels A and B completely separately but at the same time? I mean two completely separate channels but used at the same time.

Hi E. At around 25:00 + you are demonstrating adding a paralleled pedal (fuzz) gradually with the original clean sound (Awesome!) . I own the es-5, not the es-8. It does not have a dedicated volume connection. Do you know if I can accomplish this effect on the es-5? I could really use it in a particular song I play. Or for that matter, any gradual increase in distortion from clean to distorted? Not an abrupt change. Please advise. Thanks You :)

What do you do when you have to pedalsin a parallel loop AND need another pedal to be carried over (ex a delay).. My BOSS says "Not enogh mixers" .. SO what to do??

20:35 maybe because 7&8 are stereo? That being said, the software should not let you configure stuff that does not work at all... 22:35 that is why you MUST set digital stuff to 100% wet when you use it in parallel loops :)

Is it possible to do a parallel loop that is split just after the input and not being put together at all? Meaning one parallel line goes to output1 and the other parallel line goes to output2

Hi Henning, does the ES-8 support stereo loops in front of mono loops? If so, does it support a) downmixing the stereo back to mono or b) creating 2 effects loops, left and right going straight thru to 2 outputs / amps or c) both? FYI... I have a mobius that can be set either pre/post or full stereo. But I'm hoping the Boss let's me use both stereo and pre / post without rewiring or flipping a switch.

+Bas Vredeling NO, you can only have 7 RETURN and 8 FULL stereo... the rest will be mono. you can't go through in full stereo.

According to the boss site it's not possible... Output Selector: The ES-8 already has two outputs selectable for each patch. Simultaneous output of OUT 1 & OUT 2 is available (not available for separate loop)

You couldn’t till now. With the firmware update now you can. There’s also an editor for computer .

You mentioned her having a British accent, I noticed that in the earlier es-8 videos. She kind of sounds American usually but sometimes she has a British-like accent when she says things. Has she lived in a bunch of places and just has a mixed accent? Also are those the evidence audio solderless cables? I've been thinking of grabbing some of those since the way it screws into the cable seems better than just the needle method by companies like George L.
