These videos are very helpful between the jokes. The carry over function I was just messing around with that today. The Boss ES-8 is probably the most complete switcher on the market today. It's so damn good.

Hey!! Bought a es8 here and I'm seeing that the version 2 fixed what you mentioned as the flaw about it. In the play mode of the screen, it now shows the loops that are on!!

As a long time Boss fan and software engineering student I think they could have made the interface a bit better. The gigrig's use of simple led's next to words and buttons seems like a better solution but I think using something better than a simple 16x2 LCD would have done boss a bit of good. Since it would have most likely been a lot more work to make an actual screen work with it maybe just a bigger LCD so that they could fit more on it.

A "normal" person would say "That's what the computer software editor is for". An innovative mind would instead imagine putting the software/operating system on the product itself.

Hello man who eats 42 pies. Great videos as ever. Just rebuilding my ES8 based board. Big frustration is that you can't have some effects stay on as you change patch. I had Mod/Pitch/Del/Rev set on buttons 5-8 and no joy. In the rebuild I have them on 4 switches (2 x FS7) on the CTL ins, Switches set to latching. I hoped as the latch remains on when switching patches that the effect would stay on but still no joy *&^%$£!. Worst than that if I left the switch on in the last patch I have to turn it off and then on again for the effect to come on in the next patch (2 presses). *&^%$£$^^&*^. As you know everything about everything can you see a solution to my problem? No - manual mode doesn't work because I am adding JHS switchbacks on the CTL outs and I can't access these in manual. Danke!

Is this thing able to make coffee? Just for the Release thing: Actually, I think there are many people out there convinced it is the better way to switch. They say it is more precise. Have followed a conversation on Musikerboard about the TC Electronic Nova, which had exactly that feature. I myself have never been in a situation where a normal switch was not enough to fulfill my needs.

I get "pops" ALL THE TIME with the "carry over" function! and there's some hissing added to the signal. Just when i use carry over! that's some real crap I just can't figure out. Henning, need help! (have a Empress Reverb in loop 8 and a Chase Bliss Tonal Recall in loop 7, both I want to carry over on several patches)

Does anyone know if the carryover function can be used when you're hooked up using the 4 cable method? I've tried as shown in this video, but I have the volume loop box between 6 & 7. When I push enter on loop 7 for carryover, it says "no more mixers are available".

I have patch 00.7 set up with the "melty" setting on my Timeline. I've set up 00.1 to carry over which it does, but the carry over dies off very quickly. Is there a setting I don't see to allow the trails to hang in there longer after I switch patches?

no idea, sorry

So what about being on, let’s say, patch 1 using just my amps dirty channel on a song, then switching to patch 2 which uses my amps clean channel on the same song utilizing the carryover option when switching? I want the distortion of the last chord I hit of my dirty channel to carryover into the clean part of the song that I play. Do I have to use pedals to make this happen? Do I have to use a distortion pedal to carryover a distorted part of a song into the clean part?
@EytschPi424 жыл бұрын
that doesn’t work... you‘d have to carry it over with a delay

Thank god for these videos. The ES-8 manual sucks!
@joewebrocks8 жыл бұрын
Sorry Henning, but the manual says: the next patch must have the carry over function active, to make it work. ;) Don't get me wrong, I'm not watching all the ES8 videos to find mistakes you made...just to get some new ideas how to use it. :-) I programmed my ES8 about 5h the other day, and now it's loaded with 10 banks made of 4 patches each and 4 IA switches plus an extra bank with 6 patches and 2 IA switches. :-)
@EytschPi428 жыл бұрын
weird... we read that section together and didn't see it... our mistake!
@joewebrocks8 жыл бұрын
+EytschPi42 it's not printed very well and a bit confusing, that's right. On the side where it says "specifying carry over" it's not mentioned, but turn back one side and there is "tips for creating patches" and there it is explained. "Using the carry over function". But Boss should have made the way it works vis versa...would be more logical and natural. I programmed it to all patches mow on my delay loop, so i don't need to think about "which patch will i use after the delay?" And it needs one of the internal mixers...sadly. These two things could have done different, and I'm not that happy about it, how it is. But otherwise from that, the ES8 is an awesome controller!!! Btw. Müssen wir eigentlich englisch schreiben, obwohl wir deutsche sind, nur das jeder auf der welt es versteht? ;)

Did anyone experience any issues after setting these up? I just noticed my Loops 5 and 6 which are not carryover loops now Boost meaning the volume increases when these loops are activated. I have a Boss Waza Chorus in Loop 5 and Boss Waza Analog Delay in Loop 6. When I go to manual mode and activate these loops with the pedals on or off , I get an increase in volume. No other Loops do this. I don't get it.
@cfsson5 жыл бұрын
I got the same issue. I have an OCD in L3 and when I use the carryover with my delay and the OCD the volume drops alot. I've tried to change the loop but its always the same problem and only with the ocd, not with my fuzz for example.

As entertained as everyone else is with this video, I'm actually trying to understand the nuances with "Carry Over" and unfortunately, the demonstration seems fragmented. And when doing the operations required to make the changes, he goes through so quick that it requires watching several times and stopping the video, rewinding, again and again and again, in order to be able to duplicate the process. I'm still waiting for the arrival of my ES-8 and trying to learn as much as possible in the meantime in order to streamline my set-up process and learning curve. It would be advantageous if he was a better teacher. This would be no big deal, except that this is a series of tutorials for the Boss ES-8.

Yo E. I bet you haven't heard this question before. I understand how to create the Carryover now - THANK YOU SO MUCH for figuring these things out. However, I have an effect unit controlled by midi. I couldn't get it to work. Then I realized, DUH - this quadraverb, although switched and controlled by the ES-5 (yes, I know I'm too poor for the es-8), is going through my amp's effects loop, not through one of the es-5 loops . Does that mean I can never create the trails unless I plug it into one of the loops instead of into the back of the amp as I prefer? Your help is appreciated.
@paulthegeek5 жыл бұрын
What a back-asswards way of doing trails. You specify it on the patch your switching TO?!?!? Basically, for me, I'd have to turn it on for EVERY PATCH I CREATE, because why WOULDN'T you want trails on every patch? Dammit, Boss. You were SO CLOSE to a perfect switcher...

SMH... Exactly. I wish someone reinvented this industry, and completely rethought guitar effect design and user experience completely from scratch.
