Thank you for making this video it is very helpful.I have watched this video a couple of times and I'm struggling to figure out what output setting I should use for my amp. My setup is the Boss dual cube lx and Boss GT1. I would like to use the pre-amp models from the Boss GT1 with the Boss dual cube lx. I have set the input of the Boss Dual Cube LX to stereo in. In this instance should I use Combo amp return or just Combo amp? Thank you in advance to anyone that helps.

Hello there. Thank you for watching, and for leaving a comment, I greatly appreciate it. Well, since your amp doesn't have an effects loop, then you should really only use the GT-1 for its effects. However, you can use the preamps, but turn off its Speaker Types, which is found in the PREAMP menu. This will basically let you use the preamp types as overdrive/distortion fxs. You can go through the AUX in, having the proper cable, and this will bypass the preamp section of your amp, and leave the speakers outputting the sound - I don't know if this is possible on the CUBE? Regarding the Output Select, if you connect the GT-1's left and right output to the CUBE's stereo inputs, then you should use the Combo Amp setting, not the Combo Amp Return. The "return" options are only for going through the fx loop return of an amplifier, or if going through the AUX. I hope this helps. Please do let me know, if you need anything else. Best regards.

The Output Select all depends on what you're connecting it all to? Is it an amplifier, speakers, Mixer, PC, Headphones, etc.? I need to know that, in order to provide the proper answer. Thanks.

I have GT 10 with the same output select and i've found that when I select anything other that line output cab and mic simulations don't change the sound. Maybe a little bit... But on phones/line its massive change. So I turned off cab and mic simulations manually and then changed output between combo return and phones/linę and it changing sound a lot. I changing sound od preamp itself. And line sound much better in that scenario. Looks like it's FLAT signal and other are EQ somehow. And You can Play your favorites tones with Amp and then connect USB and then on simulations and record without changing anything.
@GuitarNTabs
@GuitarNTabs 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Thanks for your comment and question, I greatly appreciate it. The reason why the Line/Phones Output Select is changing the sound, is because the unit's onboard Preamp and Cabinet models are being activated. You should always set the Output Select to match the gear you're using, whether it's a combo amp, a stack amp or through the effects loop return of an amplifier. If you use your unit into the front input of your own amp, then you should turn OFF the unit's Preamp and Cabinet models, and only use the GT unit for its effects. However, if you want to use the GT units Preamp and Cabinet models, then you either have to connect through the amp's effects loop return, or go direct to a mixer, PA or Studio monitors. Have a great day. Cheers.

@@GuitarNTabs i connect my GT 10 into return. So I bypass preamp of my combo. And if I set output as Combo return (it's recommended way to do it) it sound terrible. I mean... Really muddy, with bad dynamic and more lead/metal preamp I try it getting worse. Than I switch to line output - turning cab and mic sim off and sound is great. Very clear and with great tone. Maybe it's just my Amp but it sound like real preamp (not digital in that bad meaning). I have Peavey Valveking 112 tube amp. Really good sounding one in my opinion

@GuitarNTabs

Hi there! Thank you for watching my video, and for leaving a comment, I greatly appreciate it. You're spot on, just make sure to set the Output Select on the GT-1 to Combo Amp Return. When you want to use the GT-1 for its effects only, and your Fender amp for the amp sounds, then connect the GT-1 to the Fender amp's regular input, turn off the GT-1's preamp and set the Output Select to Combo Amp. For different setups like this, it's a good idea to have separate patches, that way you'll be able to switch between patches and setups easier. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else.

Can i connect something like a tonex one to the GT1? Will i need to change the output mode in the GT1 to use tonex as my amp and can simulator? How can i do that?
@GuitarNTabs
@GuitarNTabs 7 ай бұрын
@@jeffreygian3702 - Hi! Thanks for your comment and question. Short answer is: yes. However, with a pedal like the Tonex One, which is a preamp pedal platform, it would be much better suited for a multi fx with an effects loop, because the placement of the Tonex, in conjunction with the GT-1 is not really going to be ideal... If you use the GT-1 for effects only, then you could go: Guitar --> Tonex --> GT-1 --> Amp. The Output Select depends on what you connect the GT-1 from there? Whether it's an amp or speakers, etc. Let me know, and I'll be able to provide further answers. Cheers.

As someone who has been using boss gt1 for more than 6 years let me tell u the cons which people should consider before buying 1st.the noise reduction us pretty bad so if u dont have a di box with urself dont consider using the unit for live sets. 2nd.although the overdrive and cleans are the best in this price range for distortion i would always prefer zoom g3xn under the same price range 3rd.the wah pedal aint that good 4th.the leveling of volume among different patches is very different and to get the perfect patch volume is very difficult for a live set
@GuitarNTabs
@GuitarNTabs 9 ай бұрын
Hi, Thanks for your comment. Hmm, I've never had an issue with noise, and I've always kept the NS at default settings. Noise can be caused by a lot of things, but often it has to do with the way our patches are set up. Too much gain, from both preamp and OD/DS, that'll quickly ruin any good patch and introduce noise... A DI box doesn't cure noise, a DI box ensures to keep your signal intact, so that no frequencies are lost. A DI wouldn't change your sound or magically remove noise. I can't speak for the Zoom MFX, but the GT-1 is all I've needed, and I've always been very pleased with its results. I've used the Wah on some patches, and again, it really comes down to what you're looking for. Personally I haven't had an issue here. Careful tweaking, and thinking about each effects' level/gain parameters will surely cure this, it just takes some time. Opinions are always very different, so it's always best to test out any unit, before making any decisions. Have a great day. Cheers.

If i would connect my gt 1 to a spark 40 amp. What would be the best settings? For me to be able to use the spark as a sole amp and the gt 1 as the main effects
@GuitarNTabs
@GuitarNTabs 5 ай бұрын
Hi there, Thanks for your comment and question. Since the Spark amp is a modelling amp, then the best connection would be to use the GT-1 for its effects only, and the Spark for its preamp sounds. I would set the Output Select to "Small Amp" on the GT-1 and ensure the PREAMP block is turned OFF. This should be done for all patches you use, with this setup. I hope this helps. Hi,I have a boss katana 50 mkII and a gt1,if i understand correctly i need to connect my gt1 from the L output to the power amp in on the katana right?When i plug it in the power amp in every setting that is on the amp gets ,,cancelled,, and i basically use it just as a speaker and everything comes from the gt1.When i use it this way i need to have the gt1 on combo amp return and with preamp on,correct?And if i want to plug it on the front of the amp where the eq and the effects that are on the katana apply i need to have the gt1 on combo amp and with the preamp off,right?And if want to play with just my gt1 through a pa system i still need the preamp on and the output set to line headphones right?Oh and also i have a metal preset that i made on my gt1 that has the preamp off and i play it while plugged in the power amp in of the katana and with the combo amp return setting on the gt1 and it sounds good but if i understood correctly if i am playing this way the pre amp should be on,the thing is when i turn on any pre amp on the gt1 it just doesn't sound as good as with it turned off,can i leave it like that or do i need to turn on a preamp and modify my preset so it sounds good with it on?And if i were to play with this preset that has the preamp off through a pa system would it sound bad keeping in mind that on the katana when its plugged in the power amp in it sounds good with it off?Thanks in advance,i asked you a lot of questions lol.
@GuitarNTabs
@GuitarNTabs 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Blue Jeezy. Thanks for your comment and question, I greatly appreciate it. That's correct, the Power Amp In on the Katana mkII is specially designed for connecting a multi effects unit like the GT-1. This allows you to use the Katana as a speaker only, and use both the GT-1's preamp models and effects. Yes, I would select Combo Amp Return as the Output Select, and surely, you need to activate the PREAMP-button and start selecting a preamp model and tweak its settings. You might also want to see if the Speaker simulation should be turned off, since the Katana is already using its speaker to output the signal, but experiment with this and see what you like. Also yes, if you instead connect the GT-1 to your Katana's front input, then you need to change the Output Select to Combo Amp and turn the PREAMP-button off, because with this setup you're using the Katana for its preamp and speaker. Yes, Preamp on and Output Select set to Line/Phones for connecting to a Mixer, PA, Headphones, Studio Monitors, etc. I would say, for the Metal Patch, that you need the Preamp turned on, because when connecting through the Power Amp Input, there's no preamp sculpting the sound, only the speaker outputting the sound, so I'm not quite sure how and why it actually sound good. Normally, when there's no preamp on, the sound is terrible. So, I would re-tweak the patch, turn on the preamp and go from there. You'd probably experience that when using the Metal Patch on the PA, without a preamp, it's going to sound terrible, because a preamp is needed for that scenario, connecting to a mixer or pa. Haha, it's all good, I'm always happy to reply and answer all questions. Keep them coming if you have more, no worries. Looking forward to your reply. Merry Christmas and Best Regards.

Hi Tony! Thanks for your comment and question, I greatly appreciate it. Hmm, not really, no. I want to use the GT1 as my main pedalboard with all the preset that i create,im using a clean channel on the spark, this means that i want to use the the preamps of the GT1. Can i just connect the pedalboard to the spark and select Line/phones output? and what about the cam sim? also, i noticed that if i connect the headphones to the spark (cause the speaker are connected to the laptop as well) i get a very muddy sound. Sorry for all this questions but i try to setup properly the gt1 with this ampli
@GuitarNTabs
@GuitarNTabs 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Skully. Thanks for your comment and questions, as well as your kind words. I don't really know the Spark from Positive Grid, but from what I can see, it already has in-built preamp options... In that case I really wouldn't want to also engage the GT-1's preamp models.. It would just give you double, but not really do anything else... The Line/Phones Output Select is for Headphones, PA, Mixer, USB, not for connecting with an amp. In your case I would recommend only using the GT-1's effects, and let the Spark do the preamp models. Then set the Output Select to Small Amp, or something similar, to match the type of amp, and its size. When you connect the headphones to the Spark, did you have the GT-1 connected also? If you had both the Spark's preamp and the GT-1's preamp on, then that would explain the muddy sound, since the two preamps are "fighting" each other. I hope this helps, if not, then please let me know. All the best.

Moreover, almost all of the built in presets of the GT-1 rely on the preamp switch. Is it okay to use the preamps of the GT-1 alongside my Roland amp on it’s clean channel(with all it’s knobs being at 12’o clock) ?

Hi there, Pranav Goel. Thanks for your comment and question. I'm glad you found my videos helpful. If an amp doesn't have a dedicated Effects Loop, then you can look for an "AUX In" connection. The "AUX In" will also bypass the amp's preamp section, and allow you to use it like when connecting through the Effects Loop Return. You just need to purchase the proper cable, to make the connection. If there's no "AUX In" or Effects Loop Return then you can keep the preamp models on, but I wouldn't really recommend it, to be honest. I hope this helps. Let me know. Cheers.

Hey! Thanks for the reply! My amplifier has a 1/4” aux input for line-level instruments.. plugged in the GT-1 via it. I tried with the output set to Combo Amp Return/JC-120 return. The sound seemed to lack power and was sounding a bit dull. Maybe the standalone speaker on my amp is not that great in itself, as my amp itself runs on COSM amp modelling when plugged in via normal input, which might EQ it to sound better. Guess i’ll use the GT-1 as an effects processor! Nevertheless, thanks a ton!

Hey man great video!, i have a question, I didnt understand what "Return" means, also, i am connected to a small practice amp, but when i select "Jc-120 Return" for my output instead of the Small amp i found that i like that sound more, when i selected the small amp it had a very muffed sound but when i chose "Jc-120 Return" the tone was much more bright and crisp, is it supposed to work this way? (I also have the Preamp on, and its set to Jc-120).
@GuitarNTabs
@GuitarNTabs 3 жыл бұрын
Hello there, Matthew. Thanks for your comment and question, I appreciate it, and your kind words as well. The Return options are for when you're connecting through an amp's Effects Loop Return, which initially will bypass the amplifier's preamp-section, which is the EQ, channel switch, etc knobs on the amp. This will leave the power amp section running, which is the speaker, or speakers, of the particular gear. Connecting through the Effects Loop Return will allow you to use the GT-1's preamp models. You select the Output Select option that matches your Amp the best. So if your Amp is a small practice amp, then set it to Small Amp. Also, you shouldn't have both the GT-1's preamp and your own amplifier on at the same time. You have to figure out whether you want to use your own small Amp, with the GT-1's effects only, or, if you want to use the GT-1 for both its effects and preamp models. Running both your Amp and the GT-1's at the same time will cause issues, and they will interfere with each other. So figure out how you want to use the GT-1 with your gear first. The GT-1's preamp-block should be turned OFF if you decide to use your amplifier with the GT-1's effects only. I hope this makes sense. If not, then please let me know, and I'll assist further.

You're very welcome, it's my great pleasure. You're very welcome! Aaah okay, I see. I've just checked the amp online, and I can see that it has an AUX In, which you can use. The AUX In will basically act as an Effects Loop Return. Hi, you mentioned in another video that it's imperative to get a DI box when using the GT-1 through a mixer/PA. Something about the signal being degraded by long cables. I'm a novice when it comes to multi FX's, running digital pedal boards directly into the PA etc. I've always been a traditional "guitar-into -amp-and-pedals" kinda guy, but I no longer want to carry around all that gear. The minimalism of the GT-1 directly into the PA really appeals to me, except it seems there's a bit of a learning curve with regards to all the technical aspects. So here's my main question: when using the GT-1 at the rehearsal space, will the the signal be massively degraded not using a DI box if the cables aren't longer than 3-5 meters? Obviously it will be different in live settings, if the cables have to reach a mixer all the way in the back. Thanks in advance. PS. You wouldn't happen to be Danish per chance?
@GuitarNTabs
@GuitarNTabs 3 жыл бұрын
Since the GT-1's output jacks are unbalanced, a longer cable connection will cause the signal and its frequencies to slowly degrade. A DI will take the unbalanced signal and convert it to a balanced one, keeping the Signal intact. The GT-1 will be everything you need, and it's preamp and speaker models are perfect. They require minimal tweaking to sound great. The standard Boss effect quality are there as well, and that combination is money, trust me. I still use my GT-1 for recording, rehearsals and live gigs. You should be fine, at the rehearsal space, with that amount of cable travel. The problem occurs when we're taking something like 10+ meter, etc. For a long time, when rehearsing, I used a jack to phono cable, to connect to the Mixer, and that worked well, without a problem. I hope this makes sense. If not, then let me know, and I'd be happy to assist. Thanks for your comment and question. Haha, you're right, I'm from Denmark. What gave it away? Cheers.

Hello Bernald. Thanks for your comment and question. I believe this has something to do with the overall EQ'ing of the band, when playing live. Think about it, each instrument has its own "spot" within a certain frequency range, and in a band situation it's important to get each instrument dialed in just right. This is usually something the sound engineer can help with, during soundcheck. The way you set up your guitar patches on the GT-1, also has an impact on this. You might have to sculpt your sound a little more - perhaps cutting a little bass frequency and adding some middle and treble frequencies. It'll be trail and error, and this has to be sorted out in a band situation, so experiment with this, during rehearsals, etc. I hope this makes sense. Let me know if you need anything else. I have a stage right 15W tube amp, just bought the GT-1 and I was surprised how bad it sounded hooked to the amp input...after watching your videos though, I think it may be because the pre-amp and my stage right amp are both on at the same time? I'm fairly new to this, and just plugged both in and started playing. Last night, I turned the pre-amp off on a few patches and was hoping you could answer this: 1. A couple of effects sounded better with the pre-amp off, but other's sounded like the effect was missing something, even with the other settings still on (whatever the default settings were for that patch - OD, delay, etc). Does that make sense? I'm not sure if I should be turning the pre-amps off on the GT-1 and use it as an effects pedal, or if my tube amp would sound better through the effects return loop. 2. If I plug the GT-1 into the effects return loop instead, will the amp still be using the "Tubes"? I'm gathering to either use the pre-amps, or the amp itself, not both. Trying to get full use of the Tube amp I have. Hopefully that makes sense, again I'm new to multi effects processors, and bought the GT-1 over a POD Go or other model to have the easiest experience possible.

Hi there, Kevin. Thanks for your comment and questions, I really appreciate them - and thank you for watching! I'm pleased to hear that you found my video helpful. Thanks for listing the gear you're using with the GT-1, it's a great help to me, trying to provide the best solution to solve the problem. Generally, when it comes to amplifiers and multi effect units, it's a good idea to think about how you want to use the two - for example, do you want the Stage Right amp to mainly do the preamp tones, and then have the GT-1 doing its effects only, or, do you want to mainly use the GT-1 for both its effects and preamp models. You're right, having both the GT-1's preamp block on, while running straight into your Stage Right amp will cause a few problems... 1. I would recommend that you try out these two setups: - Connect the GT-1 to the Stage Right amp's front input, and turn off the GT-1's PREAMP-block, and only use the GT-1 for its effects. Make sure to dial in your amp, to sound like you want it to, that way you can always add OD/DS from the GT-1 and boost the amp that way, etc. - Connect the GT-1 to the Stage Right amp's effects loop return, and that way be able to use both the GT-1's preamps and effects. Connecting it this way will bypass your amp's preamp section, and only leave the power-amp section running (the speaker). Also, make sure to set the GT-1's Output Select to match the connection, for example, for the amp front input setup, set it to Combo Amp, and for the effects loop return, set it to Combo Amp Return. 2. Hmm, here I'm not fully sure... I believe it would still use the tubes, but I'm not sure... I hope my answer can help you, and please get back to me, if you have any further questions. I tried the effects loop once on my amp and went back to plugging straight into the clean channel, jc120 or the ms59i-ii are my choices for preamps and I believe when switching to line phono it adds some features to some of the pre amps like high cut filter . I play a wildkat royale,and a jem Jr

What if i connect it to a mixer?
@GuitarNTabs

Hi! If you connect to a mixer, then you set the Output Select to Line/Phones and make sure to enable the GT-1's PREAMP-button. Then select one of the preamp models and add effects. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else. Cheers.

How to fix the feedback sound when I used distortion?
@GuitarNTabs
@GuitarNTabs 5 ай бұрын
Hi. Most times any feedback is caused by adding too much gain to your OD/DS pedals and Preamp models/amplifier. Often times you actually need less gain than you think. I would go through your gain levels, and see if they can be lowered. It's always a good idea to keep a controlled signal chain, that way your patches will sounds better and more crisp. I hope this helps. Cheers.

I don't understand why they made "jc 120 return" and "combo return" because the jc 120 IS A COMBO AMP! 🤷‍♂️

I think the main difference, atleast between the two amp types, is that the Effects Loop on the JC-120 is actually Stereo. It has two Effects Loop Return sockets. Cheers.
