I love rude and loud pedals like this. No frills, no bullshit, just the nastiest circuit in the world cranked hard. And its so affordable too, none of their pedals are overly expensive like most american boutique builders.

I think you completely nailed it describing that tone as “end of the world” tone! Not keen on to using this kind of distortion for rythm or lead playing, but occasionally in some specific parts, yeah sure! Thank you for demoing the pedal through multiple amps, it’s quite interesting to hear how it affects the tone!

The HM-2 is supposed to be ran into an overdrive channel with the gain taken back a bit. Gets a lot more of the classic "chainsaw" tone. Doesn't work that well going into a clean channel.
@zachiswayposi1 Жыл бұрын
I honestly don’t understand why so many people get this entirely wrong and think pedals like these are supposed run into a clean channel

It sounds just about right when going through the Puretone and Laboga. Even the original HM-2 requires a perfectly clean channel in order to be distinguishable in a mix.

Hey John, I'd be interested to hear what picks you use. Your right hand technique is insanely good and I reckon the pick would be a factor in the sound you get. ✌
@joeconti35993 жыл бұрын
I'm not john and CANNOT speak for him but for that aggressive down picking style I really recommend the green dunlop flex (actually white with green lettering) I found those to have a slight push-back making downpicking a bit more forgiving....they are thick enough to really dig in but flexible enough to absorb all lot of impact....I'm a huge down picker and I have stacks of them
@krisztianfugedi59103 жыл бұрын
for me the Dunlop Tortex Sharp 1.5 was the gateway. you need some time to adjust to it, but it is really effortless to downpick and pick hard with it.
@declank603 жыл бұрын
@@krisztianfugedi5910 Those are the exact picks I use! I alternate between the .73 and 1.5. I find their attack is fairly close to that gnarly striking sound john gets 👌

do you have any examples of Swedish death metal with the HM2? I've always tried listening to bands like In Flames but they genuinely don't sound like they're using HM2s, or at least not in the context I'm used to them (Nails/Full of Hell/powerviolence stuff) I guess Entombed's Wolverine Blues has that sound, but stuff like In Flames I've just never heard the HM2 in their sound
