Hey everyone! I'm trying out a new format with this video and would very much like to know what you think of it. Honest feedback would be much appreciated!
@AndyAcker4 жыл бұрын
(brutal honesty): ditch the 80's hair rock intro. it makes this look dated. Also try to show less of you playing and more close-ups of the actual effect. maybe make the background more appealing. The more effect-focused it is visually with just the text, the better imho. Also (I hope this is all constructive) you could insert markers for each effect. Personally, I was looking for how the Rotary function performs on the MD-200, since it's not covered much in my otherwise favorite reviews of this unit. I waded through the whole video, sliding through since fortunately the screen was clearly marked for each effect in the video (thank you). I do find it easier to jump around when the markers are set-up: especially for multi-effect units. One last thing, at the risk of sounding like a jerk: try to find more creative things to play- less predictable and less "dad rock." There you have it- brutal honesty and all. Thanks for demo-ing this and I hope the feedback is somehow useful.

I gotta say that's the best video for a pedal I've ever seen. You went thru every effect and parameter and showed the parameters on the screen thru the whole video and didn't say a word. I'm saving this vid on my favorites folder and buying this pedal and will use this video instead of the manual. Great job and thanks for posting! I guess I should be happy not all videos are this good . Then I would go broke buying everything I see!! LOL

Love the format. With a really complex pedal I always want to do exactly this sort of run through to sample everything once so I can decide the 2 or 3 places I want to dig in first. But it's such a pain playing, bending over and tweaking, playing, bending over tweaking, and so on. Thanks for doing that for me!

If you get this.. can the memory be expanded to 128 like the od 200. This units are ment to be used with Midi in conjunction with a Boss ES 8 or 5. I have a dd500 AMD od 200 connected to the midi they are very easy to program so easy in fact I'm thinking of adding one of these. But I definitely need more than 4 presets. Ooo I think your format is ideal. It is very informative and easy to understand
@CatPickStudios4 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure you should have 128 slots for presets, that's how MIDI usually works. And if OD 200 does that, this one should too. And thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!

@@CatPickStudios thank you I did look it up and finally found it on the boss website. 128 with 1.1 version download. Now I just need to find one that's been updated or decide to do it myself. Your video sold me. And your follow up kindness makes me feel good. Sitting g this 200 on my small board will work great, pick a distortion and a bit of flange save it. Keep distortion. And some vibe save i. Go to fuzz and that overtone. Maybe echo plexi delay. Thanks so much. Maybe if this covid ever ends I'll get out and play some more. Find someone

Great video, thx! This reminded me why I never bonded with this pedal. It all sounds artificial, more Zoom than Eventide. Make no mistake, I’m a big fan of Boss pedals but this one isn’t it. Surprisingly, I really like the OD-200 Overdrive. Go figure. 😅
@CatPickStudios Жыл бұрын
Haha I know what you're talking about. Lot of the effects sound fine, but don't excite me. I guess my preferences lean more towards the vintage side of things and slightly more rounded sounds like the Strymon stuff.
@davidhoffmann6040 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the great demo, i’m really wonder if I should buy it as I already have a Boss multi-effect (GT-6), which is old despites being 24bit 96Khz, it have all the effect of the md-200 plus a independent chorus unit. So you can chain chorus and flanger or chorus and 2x2 chorus, etc… However, despites being good on paper, I found the modulations effect of the GT-6 aren’t very wonderful, so I’m not sure if this md-200 propose a better capacity in term of modulation. My alternative would be to buy a walrus julianna which is more chorus focused 😅 (sorry for my rusty English, im French-German). Anyway thx you again fo your good video 👍👍👍
@CatPickStudios Жыл бұрын
Hmm GT-6 sure has more footswithes, so for live use it could be more practical. But I do think there's been quite a lot of improvement in the effects quality since that unit came out haha. If you like to have A LOT of different sounds and effects, the MD-200 could be for you. But the Walrus pedal could also be great just because it's less complex and helps you to focus on creating music instead of checking one more preset. ;D
@davidhoffmann6040 Жыл бұрын
@@CatPickStudios thx u for the answer and advice 👍 I fully agree with you, sure MD-200 modulations effect are increased in term in quality and deepth of sound compared to GT-6 🤗 I make darkwave/80's gothic music so I need a very deep and rich chorus, when young I played on a white Korean Fender Strat and used a mix of Ibanez chorus SC10, phaser PH10 and a Boss Flanger and Delay DSD1. Unfortunately I had to sold most of this stuff around 1996 when I temporarily stopped music because of money 😭 I rebuy new stuff after 2000 when my study finished, had stable work and money 😅 I will find a shop so I can test the MD-200 with my setting. Thx u very much 🤗👍👍

@@CatPickStudios I been searching for hours, there was a very cool unit called the Boss Slicer SL-20 a few years ago that has been discontinued and it did do the MIDI clock sync. I looked around and there are only a few options but just now (2am) I see in both manuals for the MD200 AND MD500 that have an option for MIDI sync external so I'm stoked. Then I thought about it and if there is a slicer, it probably has to be in sync with midi since it's such an intense effect it would probably mess up anything mixed with it if it wasn't in sync. Looks like it's the one. Thanks.

Why do people put so much work into stereo pedal demos that don't demo stereo?

The Hughes&Kettner amp and Two Notes Torpedo I used at the time only did mono signal. So there was no way for me to record this in stereo.

Still a great video. The comment is directed at the general idea. Not attacking you. I see this over and over again. 100 reviews for a stereo pedal and I have to find the ONE stereo review buried under all the others. Great video. I could have opened with that. I didn't realize that this was going to turn into a conversation with the creator. I was just commenting to the other commenters. But anyway. Great video man. Liked and subscribed for sure.

@simondeldesierto7381 while I think there’s some benefits of running things in stereo especially when playing alone at home, it’s not as black & white when it comes to playing live for example. But that’s a debate for a different day. The simple reason I’m running mono in this video is because I didn’t have a setup to record stereo guitar at the time.
