Try turning the gain down on the distortion until the high fizz disappears off the sounds top end. Most people overdo the gain on these pedals. That's usually where I start to dial in a useable tone, by reducing some gain on the distortion and then compensating a little with the eq so it's not muffled sounding. I dont like the compression on this unit so If I do use compression it's set very low. Most of the time with this pedal when it sounds like crap it's because something is set too high. The amp Sim is decent when direct recording, I can't remember if I used it when jamming though, try it out your mileage may vary. This pedal has great sound but you wont find it with the presets as is, it must be tweaked. Personally I'd just take the closest sound to what I want and tweak it until its "right" and rename it. Building tones from scratch is the best way to learn the pedal though.
