I don't know if its just the vocalist or the unit, how the audio was handled in post production, but I really didn't hear anything here that sounded very good.

Agreed, and to showcase it with only one female vocalist is not very useful. We don't need 39 FX, or crazy FX, or complications. We need one really good, subtle and natural pitch correction, plus one really good reverb, one really good compressor, and a natural sounding doubler, maybe an EQ (although every mixer has that). Think about what you do in the studio. You do multiple takes on the vocals to give subtle layering depth, you apply a bit of EQ, a bit of reverb, and some compression. That's about it for 90% of songs. Bring that to a live performance. Quality not quantity. With those engines you can also add some crazy things for the one-off songs.

Glad I'm not the only one unimpressed. I blame the effects unit, not the musicians. TC Helicon Perform-VE still appears to be the best vocal processor out there...and it's cheaper. You'd think after 7 years there would be progress.

The thing is, the RC-600 looper has all these same vocal effects that can also stack, as well as guitar effects & the fact that it's a massive looper. You'd be better off just getting that, but I think this is targeted as a more simple device towards singers. That fact makes it feel more anemic to me for some reason tho. If they would have included midi, I probably would have picked it up anyway, but without it's a no-go.

I think everything they showcased was literally everything the VE 20 already did and sounded like. Just looks like they made it "prettier" i hear zero difference. I hoped they would acknowledge the live show feedback situations and how you have to fine tune it to every single song in every single venue, that literally no one has time for.

I think you'll find this box lacking after having owned those. It's an over-simplified box, because apparently Boss doesn't think vocalists are as capable of learning tone manipulation as guitarists lol. I probably would have still bought it, because I'm started to own-up to being a Boss simp, but w/o midi, I'll passthrough.

In short - just like a GPS can record where you go, a MIDI device can record what keys you press on the synthesizer keyboard (and many many other things it can do). With MIDI you can control other music devices. It is a very nice thing. You must go watch some tutorials.

I own a discontinued VoiceLive Touch 2 by TC Helicon, the one you could clamp on to a stand. I was looking for a unit to replace it since the MIDI PORT stopped working and found out they had discontinued the product. I had high hopes for this Boss pedal but it is so far back behind the quality and technology that the TC helicon has that I ended up returning it as soon as I opened it. What really got me was the delay. You cannot manipulate the timing of it let alone the trail. I uses it for vocal delay hits live and once you release the footswitch on the delay it cuts of the tail abruptly. After I realized this I didn't even bother to keep digging into it. Still a pretty big open market for quality vocal processors...

It's got USB, but no USB Midi Option? Lame. It's 2024 and artificial harmonies still sound like a barking dog. It's got an Aux In, but no external Instrument in to trigger the key on the harmonizer. 375 € (Thomann, Germany). No thanks.

Some great features but what live performer is going to manually change keys for every song? Is that right, no guitar input? Does the gentleman who starts appearing around 2:23 to tweak the settings come with it?

You need to set some presets in different keys for change in live! This is the best and simple way to use this! All the best.

Yea, doesn't seem too convenient. For every song in the setlist to have to out on your reading glasses, look up the key on a sheet, then bend down and twiddle a knob. My TC Electronic Play Electric does an OK job deducing the key from the guitar input. It's not perfect but generally does an OK job. The more expensive Boss pedals have the guitar input for this purpose since it's important. Disappointingly, this model doesn't seem to. I wonder if a firmware upgrade could get the key from the 3.5mm input.

​@@chrismichael8501think a separate foot pedal will do the job. See youngsters changing things during a song all the time. Creating loops, change harmony etc. Takes effort to learn it. But maybe worth the time to go from good to super performance. Btw, you can put it on a standard so you can use it on the proper height.😊

I have never, but never seen an official presentation of an effects processor, that digs a little deeper into the pitch corrector, we don't always want to hear the over exaggerated effect of T-Pain, precisely many of us are interested in the more "natural" values and that is what we want to see in action as few devices manage to do it comparable to Auto-Tune for example ..... However, you waste time showing in more detail things that are rarely used in the "real world".

Can I customize the harmony footswitch and replace the harmony slot with an effect slot? I know I can assign the effect mode instead of the harmony mode on both manual and memory modes. However, using more than one effect of the same group seems impossible. For example, I want a distortion on footswitch 1, a short delay in footswitch 2, and a hall reverb on footswitch 3. Distortion and short delay belong to the category "effect" of the Boss VE-22.

This looks really nice and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a basic vocal processor (eg, vs the TC VoiceLive Play) but seems to me the VE-500 is still Boss’s flagship/pro offering in this category, unless something else is on the way. Of course for people who want to do serious looping with vocals, it would be the RC-505 mk2. But that would be overkill for someone who wants basic performance vocal fx and a simple looper. Most vocalists won’t use MIDI or instrument inputs anyway, and the headphone out is nice. This product fills a need, I think, and is a good starter for someone unsure if they need/want to get deeper with vfx or vox looping.

is this finally midi class compliant? Feels like this is trying to fix ve 500 considering how fast it came out. VE got micro usb connectors, it’s unbelievable, also glad it finally has a headphone out, shame I have to buy yet again another device, boss have been putting out a lot of half baked products last 5 to 6 years. If this has decent MIDI integration and class compliant drivers, then it looks promising.

Sadly i had to return mine. I bought the VE-22 to replace my Tc Helicon Voice Live and what a disappointment. First, the lack of a PC editor and the option to BACKUP YOUR OWN PRESETS!!! C'mon BOSS!! I can't believe that a product from 2024 doesn't do that. Even the cheap chinese pedals allow to save a copy of your presets on an external device.
