Great reaction! Kind of surprised, because most reactors hit More Than a Feeling or Foreplay/Long Time as first reactions. This was the first single and title track off their second album. Like everyone else, the eponymous titled Boston debut album is one of the best, in rock history. Every song, to me, is a must listen. Welcome to a deep dive!

You can’t go wrong with anything from their self-titled debut album, but they are probably best known for “More Than a Feeling” and “Foreplay/Longtime”
@KipArmadillo15 сағат бұрын
This a shortened version of the album track (they cut off the last verse entirely) edited to performance footage - which gives the impression that Barry, the rhythm guitarist is singing harmonies. In reality, all the vocal harmonies you hear are actually just Brad, the lead singer. He was an all-timer.

"Don't look back" was from the second album. You need to go back to their debut album and one of Rock's all-time best and you can't go any wrong by selecting any one of these 3 incredible melodies: "More than a feeling", the medley "Foreplay/Long time or "Peace of mind". Enjoy!

The record company edited out the entire guitar solo outro, among other parts. They butchered it to bring the run time down for heavy rotation on MTV. It's a shame that you guys didn't hear the whole song. Talk about your crescendos - Tom Scholz's guitar solo at the end is SO good. It makes the song.

You should have listened to the album version as it is a bit tighter and a slightly longer version but the overall sound quality of the album was curiously far inferior to their all-time classic debut album simply entitled Boston. Check out every song on the debut LP starting with their biggest radio hit and the first song on the first side of the first album, More Than A Feeling. Tom Scholz' guitar sound is unique and instantly recognizable, Brad Delp's vocals are phenomenal and Scholz' sound mixing and engineering make the Boston sound unique.

As other have mentioned, this is from their second album which has some real good songs on it. But nothing comes close to their debut album; greatest debut album of all time. Every track from that album got radio play. I would definetly start with More Than A Feeling (their biggest hit) but the masterpiece of that album is Foreplay/Long Time. I look forward to more Boston on your channel.

@billsimonis2 сағат бұрын
just like the debut, tom scholz plays most of the instruments except for the drums and vocals. This version is the singles version, the album version is about 2 minutes longer and has a second instrumental break. this is similar to the More Than A Feeling release in which the single release is about 1.5 minutes shorter than the album. Tom has always stated that he felt this album was incomplete and the record label rushed the album out. eventhough tis album was released 2 years after the debut (which by industry standards is too long). After the subsequent tour, Boston went on hiatus and tom vowed to take his time in recording the third album. this turned into a 7 year gap. At which time the record label sued Tom and froze all royalties. Tom countersued and eventually won. switched labels from Epic records to MCA and released Third Stage. during the lawsuit, most of the members left to persue other projects.guitarist Barry Godreau presented originals to Tom hoping some would mke it on the new album but apparently Tom was not interested. So Barry released a solo album with Brad singing and Sib on the drums. Oddly enough Fran Cosmo played bass and would eventually end up in Boston as the lead singer after Brad left. Barry's solo record did moderately well but Tom was upset over the promotion of the album. as the label made it seem like Tom was playing on it the label promoted it as: Meet the man behind the sound of Boston. as a result the label dropped the promotion and the album stalled. A minor hit Dreams received moderate airply and barely missed the top 40. Barry then formed a new band Orion The Hunter. this was even more successful and produnce a hit (so you) Ran. but disbanded shortly after their tour. Fran Cosmo sang lead on the album. Barry then formed RTZ with Brad Delp and released Return To Zero. this spawned a to 40 hit Until Your Love Comes Around. During this release Brad left Boston and was replace by Fran Cosmo and sang lead on Boston's fourth album, Walk On. After the disbandment of RTZ, Brad returned to Boston for the greatest hits tour and the album Corperate America. and shared singing duties with Fran. he remained with Boston until his untimely suicide in 2007 at the age of 55.

I may catch some heat for this but for me, absolutely nothing Boston did ever matched anything from their first album. This is a fine song. It was on my iPod back when we all had those. I like some stuff off of Third Stage. But I only *like* some songs after their first album. I loved pretty much everything of their first. I got into Boston a bit later in the game (mid 80s) and didn't actually hear this song until maybe 84 or 85, after hearing the entire first album. This song reminded me a bit of New World Man by Rush, in that there's a lot of stuff going on, but no signature guitar solo or solo-ette and dynamically it's just mostly the same all the way through (except for the "left behiiiiinnnnd..." section which doesn't stick around too long). Again, a very nice song but, brother, you set the bar sky high with your debut and this album just didn't quite deliver to that level. Interestingly, I also liked all Boston albums a bit less each time, after the first. I can't really say that, for any other band I like, that the debut album was by far the high water mark. Albums after Heartbeat City and Hysteria also trailed off, but those weren't debut albums.
