I survived 6 years on the Ave. Married now with two beautiful kids, dogs, live by the ocean and have a business. Even drive a fancy truck. Miracles happen when you want it bad enough. Bless all those still out there. Whenever I'm in Boston I always drive down the Ave for a "remember when " and I see the same faces... sad times. The city is essentially enabling and creating all of it. Closing long Island was deplorable.

@@georgebuonopane6601 just get sick and tired of living that way. Individual has to make a decision to get out of there. For me finding out that my liver was shutting down and being kept in the hospital for 9 weeks was what I needed to get out of there. It gave me time off the Ave for my body to heal in my mind to get right and from there it was one foot in front of the other. Definitely a struggle but got easier as each day passed. There's just more people there now the situation hasn't changed I've seen people stabbed Beatdown robbed shot at you name it and I've seen it but by-and-large a regular person could walk around there and not really be in any danger. You might have people ask you for money or cigarettes but I really don't think any physical harm would come to you. I still go down there whenever I'm in the city just to check it out and have a remember when moment and have never been assaulted or approached. They will buy in large leave you alone it's when you start dealing with them that your risk goes up but just being a passerby I think you're fine.

This is heartbreaking. My niece was struggling here for some time before being pulled out and convinced this wasn't how things should be. I have no idea what the solution is but affording them basic shelter and life necessities would be a good start. They're human beings, our relatives, our neighbors, let's find a solution.

Build all the shelters you want. They don't want to be in the shelters because you can't shoot up in the shelter. Build new high security "hospitals" where they are forced to go and get clean for a year. Then if they can stay clean and employed for a year we can talk about housing assistance.
@AppalachianCryptidEncounters

@@HowardRoark-jo7ik you don’t have a clue what drug addiction does to a person, socialism enforced on them won’t solve a damn thing. It’s more than just doing drugs, these people are trying to survive, most likely hustling to get money for the drugs AND other stuff like food, drinks, phone bills, etc. and maintaining basic life. Housing is the first thing that needs established, having a roof over your head is the very first security a person needs, then get them on a program for treatment, like methadone maintenance/Suboxone program. Once the drug addiction is under control then the very next step is gainful employment and continuation of mental health treatment. They need room and board and a facility to go too with professional healthcare, that’s for damn sure.

@UC9WL8bvKxtmZag8C4Qge61w WOAH did you just say PHONE BILLS?! Jesus Christ you do not understand what it means to be homeless there. What company do you think is partnering with homeless people that have no credit? These people ONLY want to shoot up. That's it. Go ahead. Ask them I have. They don't want housing as like it was mentioned you can't shoot up there. They want the freedom to be that piece of shit you see. That's why I'm my opinion you treat them with the same hostility they treat us. Get violent and force them out. The only reason they stay is because we're s liberal bastion who will coddle them. The moment we start coming in with pepper spray, bats, non Lethal rounds, tasers then they'll leave. They'll get it and fuck off somewhere else. I don't give a shit if they die in the woods as long as they're not a issue for us.

Everyone’s coming to Boston for the “great health care” for people with addiction/addictions and unfortunately do not accept the help or can’t get the help they really need due to high demand at the moment and remain to use.I don’t know how it got so bad so fast.Thank you for making this video and sharing what’s going on out here. I got married there a couple years back, between two tents. The guy doing the ceremony nodded out and forgot his lines. I stepped on a dirty syringe and accidentally did a line of benzo dope and woke up in a ditch with my pockets inside out and my pants to my ankles. On top of it, I think i was bit by a squirrel or something cause my asshole hurt for awhile. The women i married was nice (met her the day before) until she started smoking crack that night and accusing me of sleeping with james brown. I tried telling her i was more of a franky beverly guy, but regardless.... she divorced me a week later for a skinny transvestite pimp with one leg named marsavion jergins. To make a long story short, this place gets a bad reputation for no reason!

Yup...the storage units, woods mullen (what a hellhole) bmc, the dta office, percs, jonnys, phrenegans, bars....i guess since occupy people decided that living in a tent outside was more dignified then dealing with disciminatory religious zealots at the shelter...cant say i blame them...guess its gotten worse since 2012 we didn't have tents like that in those days...i remember not having a job during the recession (except labor ready) and sleeping at logan airport, atm lobbies, wherever i could just collapse and not freeze...contrary to popular belief bostons population hasn't really gone up that much in the last 10 years...there's no opportunity for anyone without a masters degree and all of factories are gone and the unions are nepotistic as hell... unfortunately none of the shelters in boston when i was there were set up to help homeless workers. I was at woods mullen with sub zero temps and told they were full after a 12 hr shift shoveling snow thru the Broadway labor ready in southie...in the end i left Boston. Now i have a job and a place to live. Best decision i ever made.

in the winter i know some people save up enough money to travel by bus or train somewhere like florida. most get a couple jackets and multiple layers of pants and survival of the fittest happens. its terrible, but things might change with the tent city because it popped up early summer or late fall. so people will try to stay in the tents when it gets cold but there will be a lot of deaths because people wont see or hear those overdosing in their tents if theyre alone. and there will probably be a few fires in the tents from people trying to stay warm with heaters or some homemade shit that will end up burning their tent down. few of the really mentally ill dudes in downtown sleep and lay on these vents that push up hot air from the train tunnels. you can ride the trains from one end of the line to the other from when they open to when they close if youre crafty enough. or just hang out in a station til somebody kicks you out. you gotta understand its like constant new people down there cause for every overdose someone else comes on down and takes up residence at the methadone inn. you WILL get robbed at the shelters and they kick both parties out (and usually ban both parties) in a fight, so if youre just trying to chill at the shelter and some mentally ill dude tries to attack you or you even catch somebody trying to rob you, youre back out on the street, usually with whoever is tryna kill/rob you. theres a delicate balance in maintaining a strong healthy junk habit, and theres not THAT many old people down there. loads of people come from the towns around Boston because its so easy to get drugs there. finding GOOD drugs is a harder feat. if i had to rate it like a restuarant, id give it a 5/10. might get stabbed or robbed, but the foods decent when the good chefs are at work. any time after 11 or 12pm youre out of luck though. they dont stay long.
