I was raised in Italy and I know from an architect friend who restores old monuments and monasteries that the grounds are often found to be full of skeletons of children... it's normal, everyone in the monasteries know it, I've heard horrifying first-hand accounts... it's just that, unlike in Ireland etc, in Italy it still gets COMPLETELY denied and covered up...

This is truth in our rural villages, there are several children fathered by Priests, some of the children are married and others married and have children!! Such incidents prompt a good number of Catholics quit Catholicism and joined Evangelical churches!!!! Very demoralizing, and yet the Priests are still in active church services!!! Bishops should have such Priests/Bishops routed/ferreted out even if they have retired so as to clean the church. I would recommend for DNA tests before any action is taken.

I'm a Cradle Catholic who is not as practicing as I would like to be. I listen to both EWTN and the Catholic Channel on SiriusXM for Mass. I live in Pennsylvania in one of the Diocese's mentioned in PA AG's Report on Priest Abuse. I was and still am so angry that Priestly Abuse was happening even after it was brought to the attention of Clergy / US citizens by the Boston Globe in 2002. Even Bollywood made a movie about the Priest Scandals. I am done contributing to the Bishop's Appeal and/or Weekly Sunday Envelopes. I am not a Fan of the current Pontif, Pope Francis.

Our neighbour's daughter is about my age and they are really religious. Like way too religious to be healthy. So the priest was abusing her and she told her parents on multiple occasions, but they told her that she is making it up. Until one day she came home telling them she was pregnant. They would no believe her it was the priest. So she had done a DNA test against his will. But they noticed something interesting. The priest that got get pregnant was also her father. Like what?!

Similar situation exists in certain parts of Asia where illegitimate children of Buddhist monks are sent for adoption. Humans of evil heart tend to utilize religion as a tool and mechanism to stay in power.

In my teens (I'm now on Medicare), my grandmother told me about caves between convents and monasteries in Germany in the Middle Ages. There were records found of births between priests and nuns. As a kid I was shocked. Maybe if priests and nuns had been allowed to be married, we wouldn't have some of the scandals with young boys, the possibly could have been averted. Also, is it possible that some mothers in the congregation thought it was a blessing from God to have a priest be a father of their child? I am not a catholic, so I do not know. I was just curious.

To you who says just a few bad apples, we're talking about thousands cases here which mean systematic problem and this number is just for Germany. Celibacy is blamed but what about Buddhist monks? They are celibate too and no news of them being systematic paedophiles. There is something really wrong with Abrahamic religions, their teaching, system and organisations. Numbers don't lie.

So some priests were hetero? But hid having children? I grew up LDS, and I feel bad for people that happened to grow up catholic after these scandals are made known. The child molesting priests give such a bad name to good people catholic faith. I don't know the percentage of priests that were faithful and moral compared to the devious evil abusive ones, but it's sad how the bad ones ruined the image for the well meaning ones.

With these Catholic priests, etc. their sexual molestation is a combination of pent-up sexual energy, power over the children and innocent teens, and abuse of their position. Either the Catholic institution remove the vow of celibacy which is disobeyed anyway or castrate a repeat offender so they do not impregnate a woman who is deserted with the child. The women do not speak up because of reverence to the priest and shame, so either they suffer in silence and/or continue to go to church for spiritual comfort - probably from the very priest who impregnated her. I was brought up a Catholic and boarded with nuns 6 yrs of my life. I was sexually molested by a priest who was a close and long time family friend. Had I not run away from home, who knows where it might have led to? My grandfather was a child of a Spanish priest (many of those in the Philippines). He became a famous architect in Manila. One of his projects was to built something at a well known monks’ congregation (not a convent or seminary, but a monks’ housing). While digging, there he and his men found lots of baby skulls!!! Confession is a good way to recruit a victim: young and vulnerable women, especially those with marital problems. I do not know of any nun who has sexually molested a child because I went to an all girl’s school, but I know of nuns who were cruel - almost sadistic. Is that also pent-up sexual energy? I don’t know. I have left the Catholic institution but I remain a Catholic inside. I remain prayerful. Until the system is revamped, I will not be going back to the church. I attend an Angliican Church now - although I have not decided whether or not I will convert. So much hypocrisy and evil and abuse of position in the Catholic institution. There is a very good video on KZbin pointing out why the Catholic religion is no longer the religion that Jesus had left his disciples - it has been altered by men (ie: vow of poverty? Just look at the opulence of the Vatican. Opulence gives rise to money, which gives rise to greed, which results to power, and ends up with abuse of power.) These Catholic priests’ sexual molestations and the cover ups have destroyed thousands of innocent lives. They must be punished by the law of the land, not by the law of the church, which has been proven to be a joke.
