I listened a lot of your KZbin. In 3 days I will be on zone 2 run for 1 month. 1. I lost 3 lbs. 2. I slept better 3. I don’t have injuries. I ran 4 times a week from 10 miles to 20 miles. All are zone 2 runs. I am training for Tokyo 2025. I plan to do some mile tempo run next year. Thank you for your podcast.❤😮

I’ve been binge watching your past podcasts the past three days. This episode was the most touching of all I’ve seen. Such an authentic and beautiful story of Brent’s Boston Marathon experience! Several great takeaways from this conversation but what clicked for me most is the definitive evidence of the efficacy of the MAF method, thanks to Brent’s meticulous documentation of his progress. It has inspired me to go on my own MAF method journey.

Thank you Brent and Floris for this amazing conversation, which came at the right time for me! Brent, I loved hearing you share your Boston Marathon experience and running journey, and your reflections about the spiritual life, selflessness, intentional living and why it's important to dream and ask what is our life's mission. Many thanks!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾

‘You can’t exercise your way out of a bad diet’. Delightful story🦄 Not surprising at all that the weight loss would have also considerably contributed to your improvement in pace. Continue to ‘enjoy your journey!’ 😊

It's pretty eye opening how directly the weight loss and pace improvements can go hand in hand. Main thing is to go about it the right way, with gradual consistent progress vs too much too soon. Hope your runs are going well! Gotta circle back with you soon on Comrades, a few ideas.

Wow!! This guy brought in a lot of positivity to the talk.🤗 Just loved him💕 I am only 70 and love every minute of my life! I just completed a half, doing another one in Jan and following it up with a 10k in Feb. Yes I also believe in giving. We look after 350 street children on a daily basis, make sure they get food, nutrition, education and clothing. And we love to see them growing into responsible citizens. I have pushed my entire office (I am an accountant 🤷🏽) into running 🤣 🤗Thank you for getting such amazing people on your show🤗

Love this interview. I really enjoy when podcasters interview “normal people” doing amazing things. We may not all stand on the Podium, but we can all be winners when we seek out hard things and help others.

Loved the idea of taking out the headphones and thinking about how to serve others while running. (I tried this a couple days ago after listening to this podcast, and it is surprisingly difficult to stay focused on something like that when I’m so used to having music/podcasts in my ears)

I thought it was awesome that 75 Hard was mentioned. 75 Hard changed my life and I would recommend it to anyone looking to build mental toughness. I would not be a viewer of this channel if it weren’t for 75 Hard. Reading Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins inspired me to push past a long time injury and start running again

Here is my question /situation I do believe that MAF will work. But it seems to me that those that I have heard that have implemented MAF have also already hd a strong running base. I grew up running. But years (!) later, mum, wife, and different life happenings, my body seemed to shut down. 5 years ago I could hardly walk 800m. I was in so much pain. Long story short I got to the point that I ran a 27km trail run this past July. And I was trying to train MAF. BUT it (training for this race) was too much stress for my body after a period of high stress the year before. Don’t get me wrong it was not necessarily bad stress- Just stress. My body shut down and a month after that event I could hardly walk 1km. After lots of rest and getting my body inflammation back under control. I have started back. I am 41. I try and keep my heart rate between 135 and 145 but can only run 100-200m at a time- and honestly I am not even running that fast at all. I don’t mind putting in the time time and being patient but is this really going to work for someone who is practically at ground zero. Has anyone started running with MAF or do most people build a running base and then work on MAF? Floris, i know that you must be very busy but I would really appreciate hearing a podcast frim someone who literally started MAF from the beginning. Maybe you have one already and I have just overlooked it Thanks for the podcasts they have been helpful! And hello from Australia 🇦🇺 🦘!

I think it can work. 6 months ago, I could not even run 2 miles. I have consistently run easy since, and I have built up to a long run of 18.5 miles at an easy pace (about 11 minutes/mile) I had no base - zero. Before I started running this year, I had a heart transplant and a year of complications. I could barely walk, sometimes not even stand. I had a genetic heart condition that worsened from exercise, so I had not exercised since that diagnosis, which was 15 years before my transplant (I did run a lot before that) I ran easy, consistently building volume about 10% each week with cutback weeks every 3-4 weeks. Now that my mileage is a bit higher, I’ll probably increase by less and cut back more often. I’m 47 years old, female. Best of luck!! I found that the early stages are the hardest, but once I started seeing heart rate improvement, it has been a huge motivator.
