Boston was like nothing we had heard before in ‘76. One of the best albums ever made.

Indeed. I was a sophomore in high school in 1976. This was a totally different sound than any other band at the time. MAN, we had some great bands back then, including this one, Rush, The Eagles, and a TON of others. I actually had the LP of this one that was printed in color, but alas, at some point over the last 40-od years I lost it.

I'm another 1960 child and most of my favorite music came out in the late 60's to the early 80's. As for bands I remember besides Boston (not really sure about the timing on some of these), Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Def Leppard, ZZ Top, Supertramp, Lynard Skynyrd, Eagles, Foreigner. These are just the ones off the top of my head. I'm sure there are a lot more I'm forgetting. I think this was truly some of the best music of all time and it's not called CLASSIC rock for no reason.

Almost all of the special effects, both vocal & instrumental, were designed and built by him as well, some of which are still used today in the digital age, because no one's come up with anything better! 46 years later and his analog "old" tech is still kicking ass. Spot on! I couldn't have described him much better. That entire first album in itself is genius, not just in musical or sonic features, but the entire way that one single man pretty much created this and then tricked the record company into thinking that what they heard was an entire band...or so they thought. Genius!! In addition, Scholz is a philanthropist and a vegetarian. It's even been noted that he is great in sports such as basketball and ice skating, along with being an airplane pilot that he flies his own small aircraft on tour from city to city. Boston were originators. When this album came out it was considered one of best produced albums of all time. The founder, Tom Scholz, has a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. He built his studio in basement and basically recorded the entire album himself. He brought in Brad Delp for vocals and other musicians for final touches (and also the record company needed an entire band for the marketing of the album) and for touring. This band held the record since 1976 until this year of being the biggest selling debut album by a band in the history of rock and roll. It just fell into second as it recently was passed by Guns and Roses' debut, Appetite for Destruction. If you all want to review another Boston song, I HIGHLY recommend "Smokin'", and then "Don't Look Back"!!!!!

I will never forget our band, living in the BOSTON area, gathered around the record player and heart this together for the first time. We stood there, our jaws hanging open, looking at each other with big smiles on our faces. We tried to do it for a wedding reception soon after and could barely do it justice. Wonderful achievement!

C. Espi 1) Good Times, Bad Times (for Jimmy’s incredible and frankly, practically unplayable solo, and unlike 99.9% of songs, it has a different riff underneath each time the verses come back. Classic Zep) 2) When the Levee Breaks (For Bonzo’s unequaled awesomeness and unique beat, and the great riffs Jimmy goes into to end Robert’s slowed down bluesy and funky kickass lyrics.)

The main complaint people have with Boston is that they were played soooooooo much on radio (and still are) that people got tired of it. But the songs are undeniable.

I was 12 in 1976. The Beatles and Zep i'm sure had an influence both on Brad and Tom, but they put something together that was pretty close to being their own. Brad's vocals and Tom's classically influenced harmony guitar lines, which sound like 80 pound violins, are still to this day mesmerizing in my opinion. I've probably listened to the first Boston album a thousand times... Nice job gents. You're bringing everybody together, which is what music is all about. Thank you!!!

You know what I love about you guys? You make me 'hear' a song I've known forever like it's for the first time. When you've heard certain songs a million times you start to hear past it, like the paint on your walls that just become something you look past. But to watch you two experience a song for the first time makes me focus so intently on every nuance and detail. It's like taking someone to Disney for the first time and getting to watch all the wonder and amazement through their eyes. I get so excited to watch you take it all in and anticipating how it will hit you. I discovered your channel with the Rush - YYZ Reaction which blew my mind (Rush is my #1 band). And you hooked me by the way you seem to zero in on a song's center and just... get it. All the things that make me go wild for a song you two put into words, into how you jam out, and that "look" that George gets when the song really hits deep. I love that look. Nobody reviews songs like you two do. Great stuff, always.

BOSTON is totally original. Nobody sounded like them when they came out. Excellent composition in their music. Harmonies, orchestral use. Tom Schultz... MIT graduate developed the guitar sounds. The best concert I have ever been too. They weren't too flashy with there stage performance... just let the music speak for themselves. Although... they did have a huge pipe organ come out from the bottom of the stage to play on the Third Stage album songs. RECOMMEND - Cool the Engines from Third Stage album as something to listen too.
