it's actually Jim Masdea on drums and Tom Scholz on bass. :)

@michaelr.47347 жыл бұрын
He knows this because it is in the liner notes of the first Boston album.that Jim Masdea plays drums on this song. On the first album, the only song that the five members actually played on together is "Let me take you home tonight".

That is Jim Masdea playing drums not Sib. RRB is the only song on the album with Jim playing. Sib recreated note for note all Jim's drum arrangements on the others through the insistence of the record company.

Nice to see someone knows their stuff. Glad to see Jim Masdea get the credit he deserves.

Makes you wonder the record co. insisted that Jim be replaced with Sib. The latter had a cleaner, lighter sound, maybe?
@fmbighair4 жыл бұрын
Tim Erskine why did the record company insist on replacing Jim’s playing if only to have sib play Jim’s note for note parts?
@WhyTheHorseface4 жыл бұрын
fmbighair why would the company want to involve another player and pay another person for work that was already done well? Doesn’t make sense.
@CDiPaola048 ай бұрын
@@slide4180 Well the dude who originally commented said that Sib recreated Jim's notes. But I've listened to all the demos of Jim's playing I can find, and although he definitely laid the foundation for every song, Sib played a lot tighter and more unique fills which worked better IMO. Personally, I think both were vital and the songs wouldn't have been the same if both of them weren't present on this album.

Thanks for this track! The first Boston album is one of my absolute favorites and I'm always impressed by Brad Delp's vocals, the rhythm section, the overall sound of the album and the great and timeless songs in general! Regarding the rhythm section, I would also like to recommend you a completely different album: "Live" by James Taylor (1993). What drummer Carlos Vega and bassist Jimmy Johnson play there together and also live is simply phenomenal (for me). "Country Road" is one of my favorites on the album in this regard. All the best! Andreas :)

I'd almost believe it on this track; bc it's stiffer and much less supple than Sheehan could play. But Scholz is a notorious control-freak and grudge-holder; so one can't trust his word, and by extension, yours.

You could almost mistake bass line for John Paul Jones, and I mean that as a compliment to Scholz. Very jazzy, bluesy, and thick. Similar to Jones' playing style using octave notes. Tom Scholz is so underrated as a musician, song writer, arranger, producer. The dude can do it all!!!!

@marvy1118 @gwallisonjr I agree entirely. This is clearly a player using a pick (ie Scholz). Sheehan uses his fingers as the photo clearly shows.
@yactabay12 жыл бұрын
@marvy1118 Yes, do this for all songs on first album but for the second as well. I'm one of the few Boston fans that feels the second album is on par with the first and not just also good. In fact, the song It's Easy that you mentioned is off the second album.

I cannot figure out for the life of me why the rock band video game charts triple rides on the pre chorus and chorus. My research led me here. I can almost hear some during the first chorus but everywhere else just seems like standard quarter rides

@JOHNWLOUCKS3 жыл бұрын
I never played much with a pick but bassists who did:Entwistle, Squire, McCartney and many others. Enwistle used a pick and fingers depending on the song.
@yactabay12 жыл бұрын
By the way, you made the clip by mistakenly leaving off where the guitar plays alone at the very beginning of the song. That would be blank space but it was needed here to not have to go into a computer program to add silence at the beginning to play along with as the drums and bass come in at the beginning. Thanks anyway. Remember, gang. There's one backing track with all the original vocals plus the rhythm guitar playing ONLY while you are playing the lead parts yourself live.
@pmwc115911 жыл бұрын
Kind of ironic you have an AC/DC logo as your avatar. Cliff Williams plays with a pick! Good bassists know what to use to fit the style of the song (pick, fingers, slap/pop).

This is probably from the Rockband game. All of the songs in Rockband were encoded in separate tracks from the original master recordings, so the game can alter the volume of individual instruments. The individual tracks can be extracted from the rockband files to do stuff like this.
@luvbasses54875 жыл бұрын
Here’s what I’m hearing here- A very prominent guitarist laying down a masterful plectrum style bass line....knowing EXACTLY what to play when and where cuz he’s the composer of the songs! It’s the one-man show that is Tom Scholz. Truly inspiring playing- on ALL fronts.
@BITESIZEJONES2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Maybe to the rest of the band thought he was a dick but from what I understand the greatest creators don't let anyone or anything stop their dreams.

@bayquake12 жыл бұрын
One of the fan sites credits Tom Scholz with most of the instrumentation on the first album. After watching all the live tracks from the 70's, I have to say that the bass live is far superior to the bass on the albums. And Fran is on bass in those concerts.
@rodneylee40266 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if you like a bass that's rushing ahead of everything else and over-playing like a mad man.
@gwallisonjr13 жыл бұрын
Actually, all the credit should be given to Fran Sheehan. He was phenomenal bassist and had been performing for just about his entire life. The rumor that Tom Scholz played a lot of the bass parts was just that, a rumor. Probably started by rabid Scholz fans, and why not? Scholz was amazing, as well, but credit should be given where credit is due. Sheehan rocked it.
@davidstewart43107 жыл бұрын
gwallisonjr Tom actually done most of the bass on the first 2 Boston albums....not Fran.... but Fran is by far a better player.
@pgestudio755 жыл бұрын
You contradict yourself here. You claim "credit should be given where credit is due", yet ironically in the same breath you claim that "all the credit should be given to Fran Sheehan". Spoiler alert: It's described on the Boston 2006 Remaster linear notes that Scholz plays bass parts on every song on that first album with the only two exceptions of 'Let me take you home tonight' and 'Foreplay' ( not Long time )...which were Sheehan. Remind us how this is "rumor" and not fact? In terms of solely bass, if you want to give credit where credit is due, then grant Scholz with the deserved credits for the bass parts on the album and grant Sheehan for his contributions on the two exceptions. Simple as that. Only one making rumors seems to be you. Don't get me wrong, Sheehan is an amazing musician and bassist and I highly admire his talents. Let's just not credit him for something he didn't compose or perform on the album.
