I was really amazed how good he was at describing them, my lecturers were always felt like they were fishing for words in their minds but he was just so smooth. I adored him throughout the video. @@coltonp7149 My comment is based purely on how he called himself a mook. 7:09 I studied evolutionary biology at uni and wrote an essay on the plants of New Caledonia. The plants there are an amazing example of how geology can influence the diversity of plants; the soil has many areas with incredibly high levels of heavy metals interspersed with areas of other concentrations and the plants have had to adapt to tolerate that. Totally different plant communities can be separated by distances of a couple of hundred metres, and it's really fascinating!

Been watching for about half a year, wish I had seen his channel way sooner. Nobody quite educates about the natural world like he does in a entertaining, engaging, often funny manner, and I tend to even appreciate his nihilistic rants about humanity. Started out with the Chile, Australia, New Caledonia playlists. The enthusiasm is contagious.

I was hopeless with plants growing up but randomly became an expert during the pandemic. I started by experimenting with different types of plants and using a plant identification app. After that, I went to gardening stores and started buying any plant that looked interesting. Now I have a ton of plants and have become part of a huge community of plant lovers that I didn't know existed! ❤

I'm not a botanist but i am a forager. Regarding the knowing if a plant's poisonous question his answer is bang on. I know broadly what family common plants i come across are in and i know, for example, that plants in the carrot family are bad news. Beyond that, it seems as though the questioner was also a witch, and as a witch myself i find part of how i practice that comes into my foraging. Feeling like i know what the plant, animal and fungal life around me exactly is connects me with the land i live on. Start with the plants you see most commonly and identify using them a book or app and be generally curious. Here in the UK the plants i see most overwhelmingly are dandelions, dock, plantain and ragwort but there's certainly lots more besides those are just the most common 'weeds'

@coltonp71492 жыл бұрын
So he is a villain, a mobster, and must be a criminal due to having tattoos. Got that racism on a low simmer, huh bud.
@boomdoom25962 жыл бұрын
It ain’t racism, it’s stereotype. And you can blame the movies for that, not this person. Plus they specifically said “like ~”, implying that he is not those things, but has the same charm they would.
@boomdoom25962 жыл бұрын
@Colton Price, also, it’s not odd to give someone a second check just because they have tattoos. If you look at onsen (“bath houses” I think it’s translated to?), they usually won’t allow anyone with a tattoo in due to them having too much of a relation with the Japanese Yakuza. You may be able to slip on by if you’re a foreigner and “gaijin smash” your way in but even then they have the right to turn you down.
@pineapple70242 жыл бұрын
@@coltonp7149 Notice that he uses the word “like” and you used the word “is.” When the word “like” is used comparatively, it is a literary device known as a simile. Very weird how you tweaked the original comment to say what you wanted it to say

Thank you promoting the Latin names of the plants. I insist on using them and some friends just roll their eyes and think it's stuffy... thing is, I need to only bring in cat safe plants, and I really need to be sure of what they are! For example, someone kept suggesting "bamboo" as a low light houseplant safe for cats, but turns out they meant something called popularly "lucky bamboo" which isn't even related to true bamboo and is poisonous
@katehache2 жыл бұрын
Great point. When you use Latin names you actually know what the heck you’re talking about. People call things the wrong name all the name and generally don’t know what they’re talking about.

There's so many common names for plants. I hate when products use the common name because I have cats as well and I've seen many different plants called the same common name. I do like when they actually include the latin name so you can tell if they're pet safe
