The thing I always liked about the shovel gimmick is that it's only driven by one spring, everything else is purely based on mechanical linkages. It's even more fun looking back now, because I'm actually taking a design course where we're studying these kinds of mechanisms

Actually, that grill is a molded part. In fact, the treads are the only spot of painted blue I see aside from the scoop itself, and even that is probably just to color-match the thumb.

***** Plenty. My favorite would be a set based on past Botcon characters using Animated molds. For alternate reality stuff like Shattered Glass, a set with Autobots and Decepticons swapping alt mode styles, more aggressive Autobots, more covert Decepticons. More recently, I thought of a set based on Micromaster characters where the toys are accurate to their size in the story that goes with them.

TJOmega I wish we got more Animated toys and episodes. I loved that show and the toys were great. I would had liked to had seen a leader class Lugnut and Grimlock. Have you seen the season 4 ideas? They had so much planned but was all cancelled. It sucks really. Are there any Animated toys you wish they made and did you enjoy the show?

@@TJOmega I think the trick with an exclusive is that it has to be desirable, but also something you're not too angsty about missing. Something that's cool to have, but it doesn't feel like there's a hole in your collection. Oilmaster is a good example of fitting into that paradigm; a new-mold Pretender based on an unmade concept released in the mid-2010s is an incredibly cool idea and a great centerpiece to a collection, but nobody ever went "nooo, they made Oilmaster an exclusive! now my Pretender collection will never be complete!" But then you have something like Alpha Trion or Thundercracker, which actually is pretty desirable, versus most of their Machine Wars designs.

Awpwn Yep. A backhoe is one where the excavator arm is on the back and the bulldozer is on the front and I don't think the word steam shovel even applies to modern digging anymore.

This is actually one of the better Armada moulds, I've always liked it--certainly an excellent step-up from that old Smokescreen :P I hoped you'd review the Hoist figure, but yeah I suppose this kinda covers that figure too, pretty much.

Great review!!! I think you nailed the official name of his construction mode. It's definitely digging machine LOL!!! I really wish I could afford this guy he's absolutely amazing. I do have Darksyde Waspinator though and for a small little guy he's pretty neat.

Although I don't have this version for obvious reasons. I always did enjoy the fact they used it for Cybertron Longrack, which I found very surprising. Plus I tend to load this guy up with weapon minicons.

I assume they went with how Hoist was produced, so the gang molded blue parts were probably the same with Hoist.

Why do people not like/hate Shattered Glass so much? I think it sounds like a cool concept. I can understand SG Stepper because there was already a sg Ricochet but just hear SG got people upset.

Michael Mitoulis It was a cool idea, but then they just kept going back to it over and over even when it made little sense in their own stories. A lot see it as a cheap cop-out to repaint a toy without having to assign it a new character, where an Optimus might become a Motormaster or other semi truck character, they just make a purple Optimus instead.

That makes sense. It is cooler when they homage actual things and make up new stuff. I am personally hoping that for next year with combiner wars they make Gaurd City and Battle Gia or something like that.

Michael Mitoulis Personally when they first started doing Shattered Glass I really liked the idea. However I fell some of the later choices for Shattered Glass characters didn't really make a lot of sense. Like why even bother making a SG Sideswipe if he's not going to be an evil Autobot? I also don't really like the choices they used for Megatron or Galvatron. Energon mold with a new head for Megatron? Why do that when he was already a homage to Galvatron. Evac as Galvatron, that is just a horrible use of that mold. Really SG was suppose to be a G1 Mirror universe but they also made characters who weren't even in G1. There are other SG universes like Animated SG and they really should of done that with more continuities instead of just shoving characters into the original SG universe who don't even belong there.

I wouldn't prefer an animated shattered glass universe because it would be more likely to be characters with the same mold all over again which would suck

Jetfire48 I didn't say I preferred an Animated Shattered Glass universe. I said one already exists and I wish they would make a SG universe for each continuity rather than shoving characters they don't know what to do with into the G1SG Universe. Also I actually prefer that they be repaints of the same mold because that's actually what they're suppose to be anyway. They are just recolored versions of the same characters from the main universe they're based on. The only reason the original SG used different molds is because Botcon exclusives typically only reuse recent molds. They would never go all the way back to an 80's toy mold just to give us a SG version of that character. But they should choose molds that more closely resemble the characters they're suppose to represent. Like the mold they used as Megatron would of made a better Galvatron than freaking Evac.

Interesting mold to say the least. I don't think there's another HasTak toy that does an excavator as an arm. I know in Takara's Brave Command Dagwon toyline they had Power Dagwon, but that was just attached to the right arm. Still looked good, though.

Now that I think about it, most of the characters in BW had no reason to be called what they were until after they crashed and took beast modes. Waspinator, Rhinox, Rattrap, Cheetor, Dinobot, Tarantculas, Tigertron, etc Why would Cybertronians from thousands of years in the future be named for Earth Animals they've likely never seen or heard of before? Be like a human landing on an alien planet and his legal name is Glorph which just so happens a fast deer like sprinter there and he's a former track star.

Not like every universe where a certain yellow bot has always been named after an insect Cybertronians should have no way of knowing about when naming the guy.

Hound on the other hand, is named so because he's a scout and a tracker (like how hunting dogs are used to flush and track prey). However, the names for Beast Wars characters don't have as much meaning that fits their character... Maybe Inferno, though.

OK Now I'm really confused. I always assumed the color was blue because I'm color blind and can't really see blue. He actually does look purple to me but I grew up thinking purple was a feminine color and just automatically assumed all male characters wore blue. Then I found out it was actually purple from several people online. Now you're telling me it's blue. Is it suppose to be purple but they just used the wrong color on this toy or what is going on here?

RialVestro The character is always meant to be using blue as one of it's colors. There is Universe 2 Dinobot who in the US was done with purple instead to give him a more Predacon look, but all others use blue.
