Botswana Overland Safari | 3rd Bridge to Xakanaxa in the Okavango Delta | Episode 2

After spending the night at 3rd bridge camp, we now make our way to Xakanaxa camp for two nights. Join us as we overland across Moremi game reserve to our new camp, encountering Elephant, Hyena, Giraffe and Lechwe along the way. We also venture out deep into the swamps, where we cross some muddy rivers - testing our vehicles and 4x4 skills along the way. Finally, we end the stay at Xakanaxa with a magnificent sunset river cruise - taking in sights and sounds that are unique to this pristine region in the Okavango Delta.

We came from Linyanti to Xakanaka to Third Bridge out to Central Kalahari for 19 days - exiting at Xade to Ganzi and back to SA via Namibia

1:14 Bushlore. Another great video, I've already done Namibia and looking to do Botswana in 2024. Did you use Tracks4Africa?

Hey Damian - yes, our friends from Germany rented their Bushlore vehicle in Maun. Very capable vehicle. We did use Tracks4Africa. I had a digital version of the maps on my iPad - and two of the other guys had the Tracks4Africa maps on their Garmin. A definite for navigating through the Delta I would say.

Hey Troopy - yes, there were one or two ‘chicken runs’ - not always - but as you say, in some places we could have taken an easier line. But what would the fun in that have been? 😜

Where did you Start your Boat Cruise ? Who did you book it through ? Pls ?

We booked the boat cruise at the Xakanaxa camp - as you drive in, there is a signpost on the right hand side indicating the boat launch area. If you go down to the boats and speak to the guy there, he will be able to advise on times and availability. Try and meet with him on arrival - as you may have to wait until the next morning or evening for availability - but you should easily be able to squeeze the boat trip in if you are staying for a few days at the camp. We initially wanted to do a morning cruise, but when that was fully booked, we opted for the evening cruise. Enjoy.

What is the weight limit for third bridge?

Hey Sv - that’s a good question - in our group, the heaviest vehicle was probably the Toyota Land Cruiser which has a weight of around 3000kg. It was towing an Echo 4 trailer which has an unloaded weight of around 450kg. So I would say that it can comfortably handle 3500kg. That said, the bridge does see a fair bit of traffic throughout the year and does look like it’s been repaired a few times. The water and sun probably also contributes to some wear and tear. What are you planning on taking across the bridge that you ask?
