I'm a new brewer here and I'm just curious your said something about a tighter seal when talking about corks. I always assumed a seal was a seal that did not leak air at all? Are there different levels that I need to account for?

Hey Sam. I was wondering if you remembered where you bought that bottle washer? On Amazon the only ones I can find seem to be sink attachments that need to hook into the house water instead of just having a resivor like what yours seems to have
@Chooibah4 жыл бұрын
Any comment on push corks? I bought a bottle of hawthorn mead a little while ago that was sealed with one of those.... it's convenient as it's around 14-15% so I can keep it for a while.

What's giving the washer the pressure? That looks a lot easier than what I've been doing :D

My mead is more the color of the stuff in the back on the counter, how do you get it more transparent to?

So do you have any recommendations on how much honey to add per litre of water? I assume it's about excitementing to find what you like, but a recommendation to start with would be really helpful

Can we use the kind of bottles that have the corks attached to the bottle with wires? I dunno what they're called 😅

Swing-tops! Ive heard they work well, as long as you dont plan to store them for ling periods of time.

@@DRAWinLINES Nice! Are food grade oils okay, like rapeseed or olive oil?
@DRAWinLINES3 жыл бұрын
@@Chooibah Yes. They should work great to condition most soft polymers such as those cap O-rings. Mineral oil is an excellent option because it is also food safe and many times given orally by the teaspoon for its *ahem* laxative properties. It is also EXTREMELY affordable compared to other culinary safe oils. I also use mineral oil to preserve any sort of carbon steel knives that may or may not come into contact with food, whether it be in the kitchen or while spending weekends outdoors! I hope this helps!

So I am wondering what is better for fermenting clear glass jugs or brown glass jugs ??
@Chooibah3 жыл бұрын
Either is okay in the primary although sunlight is never a mead's best friend. During the aging process a dark place is preferred, brown glass helps but I put the clear demijohn into the box it came in :) The benefit of clear is that you can see if sunlight is affecting it, the benefit of brown is that less sunlight is affecting it. Hope that helps.
