I actually know something about Morton's Neuroma because I've had it for a number of years now. Had to give up running after 35 years. But anyway, here are my recommendations - Altra (brand) sneakers. They are zero drop, foot shaped toe box, and come in different padding levels. Excellent. Also I highly recommend Birkenstock sandals - the sandals have a unique footbed that has a toe bar, it helps to raise the forefoot precisely where the neuroma's form and alleviates any pressure from that area. One more thing - I had a decompression surgery for it - don't waste your time with this. It doesn't remove the neuroma, they cut the ligament surrounding the area which supposedly gives more room for your nerves, so that you don't "feel" the neuroma - it now is supposed to have wiggle room. Didn't help one bit and took me a year to recover just from the surgery to get back to where I was pre-surgery. If you opt for surgery, just have the neuroma removed and live with the numbness you will get - (this is what some friends told me). So that's my two cents, hope it helps someone.

I wore cowboy boots and steel toe work boots all my life until 2018 when I was out of work for 2 years. During that 2 years I started wearing tennis shoes. When I finally got back to working, I quickly developed Mortons Neuroma in my left foot and it was excruciating because my job consisted of walking 8 to 14 miles per day - in steel toe work boots. Nothing helped until I was able to get off my feet during the pandemic. I still have some pain at times. But not as bad as it used to be. However, I am afraid that when I go back to work it will flare up again and make life hell on me. Thank you for making this video. I will try to find a pair of steel toe work boots which might not be so bad on my foot.

I suffered with pain and numbness in balls of feet for years and wound up in wheelchair for nearly 2 years because I could not walk on my feet without them swelling up. Found kybun shoes which got me starting to walk again. They have zero drop and thick soles to cushion each step and in half a year I was walking up to 1 mile. Found therapist specializing in feet who gave me exercises to strengthen feet and ankles. Also found company online called Naboso who has excellent educational videos and therapy tools. Currently working minimalist shoes into my daily lifestyle and never thought I would get here from the wheelchair.

What were some of the exercises that you did to strengthen your feet and ankles?
@thunderbird3694
@thunderbird3694 2 жыл бұрын
@@billbauer9795 Exercises include: Skater Lunge and Reverse Lunge w/slider, Ankle Band Everions, Arch Lift and Balance, Toe Curls, Toe Stretch on Wall, Calf Stretch and Neural Mobility Slump. Therapist worked on my ankles until I regained mobility then he released me, but I continue with the exercises. I carry spike ball and lacrosse ball with me to massage my feet if they get sore when away from home, soak my feet in epsom salt every night, scrape them with Graston tool and rub down with a CBD Balm. Each day I spend time wearing Naboso insoles in my VivoBarefoot Primus Lite III with injinji toe socks. Seeing a therapist for my hip and have series of exercises for that as well. Also, I have been educating myself about fascia, how it holds our body together and allows us to move. From our toes to our nose, everything interconnected, which helps explain how things like acupuncture and reflexology could assist in healing.

@@thunderbird3694 Thank you so much! I will look into each of the exercises that you listed. Right now only the Calf Stretch looks familiar. Hoka shoes, the Gaviatti and Bondi have been life changing for me. I have Morton’s neuroma, plantar fasciitis, saddle arch deformity in the top of my foot, ball of foot callous and other problems. I am able to be active again with these shoes. I am taking walks again twice daily. Running had to stop years ago lol. But I have a nice wide shoe toe box for my toes to stretch out.

Shoe selection is the most important. I love Altra and Saucony. I also had custom orthotics built by prosthetic doc. Unfortunately I still have the pain in forefoot area 2nd and 3rd toes. Brutal. As a nurse I find little time to get off my feet. Having the correct shoe and in my case orthotics too makes a huge difference. I have excepted reduced pain level verses what we all would a love pain free level.

My mom had that 40 years ago... from wearing safety shoes on concrete for many years. Her nerves between the toe bones was inflamed (the nerves were thicker than a pencil lead from inflammation), and the doctor did surgery to the worse foot. Shortly afterwards she had to retire from the job because her back was curving from the stress of lifting she had to do (She was SUPPOSED to have a man to lift the heavy packages over 35 pounds for her, per company policy, but they never followed their written policy and had to do the work herself). The foot that did not have surgery was soon fine after she retired, but the one with surgery hurt badly for the rest of her life.

See I switched to an external guard to reduce the pain and I’m wondering if the flatter vibram Christy outsoles will do the job? If so is there a specific insole I need to get to help with my combo of fallen arches and metarsal pain?

I actually found the opposite to be true. I had plantar fasciitis and the Altra brand shoes correct that issue. Overtime though I began to have pain in one of my feet in the spot mentioned in this video and it got even worse when I went with Xero shoes. While wearing the Xero shoes I also began to have knee pain I've never had in my life and I'm 58 and played sports while younger. I nearly went to a doctor but opted to switch to Asics Gel Nimbus and within weeks all of my pain was gone in both knees and my foot.

I’ve used Correct Toes for around 5 years. I live in the PortlNd Iregon are and my Podiatrist suggested I try them to see if they’d help with bunion pain. They work! Users need to gradually build up use, you’ll know if you’ve worn them too long because toe bed will get very sore. So patience is the key. But I have been able to avoid bunion surgery because of my Correct Toes. Shoes are important too so toss those heels and pointy toed shoes, vanity and style are not worth the pain.

I have very flat feet. I have horrible pain in my right foot in the area you mention and when if it is hurting when I step I nearly fall. My podiatrist had a heel orthotic made (hard as a rock) and that helps some but doesn’t fit in most shoes. I wonder if this treatment you suggest would work for people with no arch. Sometimes my foot, even when sleeping, feels like my bones are crushing. I do have toes starting to overlap and a bunion. Do you think these shoes and toe spreaders would help? I’ve been told I need a stability shoe with wide toes. I would like to know if the shoes in your video would work? Thank you

Hi Bob and Brad! I am at a bit of a breaking point. I've had foot pain for roughly 15 years; pretty much everywhere but the toes, it almost always feels like my feet are bruised even when I'm not walking. I was diagnosed with claw foot about three years and got that under control, but now I am having claw foot pain along with plantar fasciitis pain in both feet. Your exercises are helping tremendously (thanks ^^). However, I have high arches so what shoe advice would you give me? I think my arches still need to be supported, but these shoes you recommend are too flat and I think it only cases me extra pain when I don't have arch support. Thank you for your time and patience; and please feel free to respond whenever :)

I love you guys but have to say a couple of things. 1) Zero Drop Shoes, or even 0-6mm drop shoes, are not good for everyone! If you have Insertional Achilles Tendonitis for instance, NOT a good idea. Some of us have both Metatarsalgia/Morton's Neuroma and Insertional AT. So I guess Dr. McClanahan would refuse to work with us since we can't comply with his first "must do". My point is, you have to treat the total foot pathology, not just make rigid demands of people that only address one area and ignore the rest of the foot. A moderate heel drop of 10mm with a good orthotic and a metatarsal pad is most helpful for those of us with both Insertional AT and bottom of forefoot pain. 2) Spring Toe feature: Many podiatrists and foot/ankle doctors RECOMMEND rocker bottom shoes such as HOKAs and others, which all have a curved front toe for a good reason: because they make up for lost functionality caused by a stiff big toe joint, range of motion difficulties and other ailments. And according to the majority of foot and podiatry experts, rocker bottom shoes (w. spring toes) are good for those with foot or ankle arthritis, or those who work on their feet all day. They can greatly alleviate the pain and wear and tear from standing on your feet for long hours. 3) I'm all for ROUND, wide toe boxes! Thanks for allowing me to comment. All the best!
