I need to clear this up. I get that it’s Tier 5, or Q5, or level 5, anything 5. I get that. I’m talking about the icon. The gem that it’s labeled with. Is it a topaz or something else? Because THATS the thing that I think people are getting confused with when they see the bronze icon for tier 1.

People are lazy and assume that the bottom tier is the cheapest.

I saw a same thing going on with several crafted items and even ore. What I think is going on is that, as your skill and knowledge level is increased in a profession, the chances of you gathering or creating a bronze item is reduced, eventually getting to the point where the items you craft cannot be any lower than silver (or maybe even gold eventually). Over time, such a mechanic would make bronze items more rare and silver ones more common.

I’ve been seeing this since Dragonflight. Here’s my theory as a fairly casual user of the auction house. As the expansion progresses crafters are able more and more to make tier 2 as you showed. This means that the supply of T2 is high compared to T1 or T3. And what happens when supply is high, the price falls. This is going to be exacerbated by people using TSM and doing cancelling and undercutting. With many people doing this the price will fall quickly when supply is high. As this is all happening automatically, people aren’t checking and noticing that the higher ‘value’ T2 item has now fallen below the price of the T1 item. Maybe there are some confused people buying T1 and thinking it’s T5 or just assuming that a higher price item is better but I don’t think that’s needed to explain this. It’s just economics in a semi automated market system.

I call them 5-star. I think you’re right in your second theory, people just choose the second cheapest because they’re in a hurry and don’t check the quality.

as someone who uses TSM, i almost bought bronze instead of gold a few times. because TSM shows you itemlevel, not the tier symbol and i was just clicking on the more expenisve one thinking that higher price means higher tier. thank god for double checking everything before buying. Edit: what i also noticed while mining is that fusing 5 silver ql ore into 1 gold ql is almost the same sellprice, but you get a huge loss if you fuse 5 bronze ql ore into 1 silver ql the difference between silver and bronze prices are just crazy no matter the profession

This has been an issue since this rank system was introduced in dragonflight & it's not just with crafted goods. This is even the case with raw materials. Where a silver rank is cheaper then a bronze rank even though the silver is higher.

I see the same thing happening with minerals, herbs and skins. Sometimes I buy Tier 3 just because they are cheaper then a Tier 1. That's madness.

I wonder if people are just using an ah addon and on alts they filter to the lowest quality enchat assuming that's the cheapest enchant they can slap on rq since it's the lowest

Supply and demand. This was the case every patch for the last expansion as well. People buy and make low tier enchants/consumes early as skill points are hard to come by. Rank 1's are made far easier and easy to farm for, rather than the rank 2's and 3's. We're a month and some change into the expansion. People have a ton of skill points. It's physically impossible to produce Rank 1 consumables and gear once you've hit a certain investment in a profession. People are also lazy and will just auto-buy rank 1 goods, thinking they are the cheapest, without checking the 2's. It'll be like this for the rest of the expansion. You will gather/produce more rank 2 materials (IE: Enchanting, I get twice as much rank 2 dust opposed to rank 1 or 3 with mass milling greens). Thus, all rank 2 stuff will be cheaper in the long run, as ridiculous amounts more will start to flood the market. And rank 1's will basically only be craftable by anyone levelling the profession or intentionally keeping their stats low.

It's because no one really buys T2 so it's about whats being bought more and whats not as thought after. T1 used to be cheaper and got bought more than T2 or T3 for Gear that can be replaced quicker. T3 I'd only spend the money on if I have a gear piece I wear for a longer period of time. So T1 as it used to be cheaper is the go to, no one buys T2 cause it's basically useless I can just buys T3 and invest in something better. But because T1 has been bought a lot more than T2 the Price for T1 has gone up. So now that T2 is a lot cheaper people might buy T2 more and the price of T1 is gona sink again. T3 will stay about the same I guess.

darn... i look for the cheapest ever enchants at the start of the expack anyway, but seeing that bronze is 3xprice than silver is mind boggling. i do remember in dragonflight the neck sokets were somehow similar - silver was ALWAYS cheaper than bronze. so i always got 2 silver + 1 gold to upgrade the necklace - u could use silver on a non soketed item 2 times to get the 2 sokets then last one being the gold one. aaanyway - i hate the new crafting systems - i disliked the shadowlands leggo tiers also, but now it's such a no-no for me. except gathering while mounted with skygolem for herba + mining. that is fun ^^
