This video is a bit different from the usual ones, since it doesn't necesserily cover a pirate topic, but I find boucaniers to be very interesting, and it's a topic that doesn't get nearly enough coverage. With this rich background we'll also get full context for next week's video, which will be all about how the Boucaniers became pirates, and why Buccaneers deserve special recognition from the other pirates of history

Hello mate, have you had a chance yet to embark on the new pirate documentary on netflix? It is 6 episodes of 40 minutes about the golden age of piracy in the Caribbean. It seems decent enough.

This was another great video into a pirate related topic. The frontier life of buccaneers was wild in the Caribbean. I recal how Exquemelin said that all people in Hispaniola in his time were either hunters, planters or pirates. Anyways cheers once again!🏴‍☠️

@@GoldandGunpowder Oh really? That's nice. As a piracy enthusiast myself I really appreciate in-depth looking at those kind of topics. Also, may I suggest some futore videos ideas? How about video about life of a pirate or a sailor through the eyes of such. Although I think that's gonna be difficult finding eye-witness, diaries or letters made by sailors.

That's a video I really want to do. There's a good book called "Pirates in Their Own Words" that covers some of their opinions quite well. It depends on the period of course, but in the late Golden Age there was a sense of desperation that's very interesting.

WELL DONE; History repeats itself: If Spain had not driven the Buccaneers from their livelihood of hunting and meat-jerky, they wouldn't have become fearsome "pirates" who could aim 4 times farther than the Spanish Navy riflemen and a had a rightful grudge. Lesson; The 'powers' that BE, create the rebels that are Inevitable when 'powers' take, just because they "can"... how Timely !

Something funny that I just remembered, one afternoon when I went to Publix to order a sandwich, I noticed in the menu that the Buccaneers (the football team) had a signature sandwich. When I read the ingredients I thought to myself “What?! No pig products, no jerky or smoked meat. How dare they call this a buccaneer sandwich? Lol 😂

Something else I wanted to ask you, I remember you replied to me that my Argonaut couldn’t be referred to as a frigate because it was a slave ship (there for the correct term would be Guineamen). But is it possible that when it was captured and refitted with more guns, and refitted more for battle rather than human trafficking, then it can be called a Frigate?

Aside from the rats and cockroaches roaming the ship, they would have a ship's cat to hunt them. Dogs could also be found aboard ships. You would also see chicken and goats kept for their eggs or milk. Sometimes they brought pigs and cows aboard for meat. Buccaneers also had a lot of parrots, but they didn't seem as common for pirate pets in the 1710s.

Brilliant work sir. What information is available for the Jewish pirates in the Caribbean? It might be before your time frame with the inquisition an all that. But it's interesting nonetheless. I read some where that Jean Lafitte was a converso from his grandparents.
@GoldandGunpowder
@GoldandGunpowder 2 жыл бұрын
During the Golden Age Jews weren't prominent as pirates themselves but were active merchants on Jamaica, and they were very supportive of the English occupation in 1655 from the Spanish, due to the pro-Jewish reforms under Cromwell(and then Charles II). Since the Jews spoke Spanish they were driving in the illicit trade with Spanish colonies
