Hell I'm 48 and still wanna be a pirate. Imagine getting $3 billion worth of loot from a container ship or oil tanker and holding it for $30M worth of bitcoin ransom.
@trustysource7568

Agreed. Also, modern pirate = Scuba archeologist... Pretty sure the international waters laws against claiming shipwrecks and their loot is absolutely full of loopholes and potential. You find ONE shipwrecked Spanish galleon full of New World gold and you could buy an island to continue your pirate ways.

My family has a "pirate" back in the 1600s. He stole a boat from a harbor in New Amsterdam (now known as New york). And then stole 4 more boats up and down the coast and finally somehow sold them and then popped up I Pennsylvania without any warrants. Old records are incomplete but he did something to not get in trouble that is forever lost to history and he blew all of his money on a scam and damnit. Our family could have been old money people. Not poor Edit well it's assumed the money was lost in a scam as the piece of land off the coast of North Carolina that is named to him doesn't exist. Don't know if there was an old sandbar island that a hurricane destroyed or if it was just a fake piece of land to begin with. But either way our family owns a 2780 acre island 40 miles off the coast of North Carolina that doesn't exist.

What about the legendary Black Bart Roberts remembered for bringing Transatlantic shipping to a standstill. As well as commanding over multinational crews of freed black slaves and senior pirates who were named ''the house of lords'' Ranging across the sea from Europe to America and as far as Africa 'The Great Pyrate' took over 400 ships in his career (blackboard and Captain Kidd took about 30 between them) Dressed in red silk he wore the king of Portugals diamond cross as bling! Black Bart is the GOAT in my opinion, closely followed by Morgan (both Welsh) In the crappy films Pirates of the Caribbean the pirate's code was fictionally written by ''Morgan and Bartholomew'' a reference to the GOATishness of both pirates!!!!!!

My earliest known ancestor James Myng was the captain of the vessel Henry Morgan served on in the anglo Spanish war. They were acting as privateers (condoned piracy) against the Spanish. At some point they were enlisted with the broader navy for a big battle. My ancestor was killed, shot in the throat by a pistol, there after the crew disbanded. That’s what a copy of the official documents that I saw said anyway. I guess my side is but a branch of that tree. The name changed for easier spelling/reading and my branch of the family landed in Bermuda in 1701.

If you want an episode idea for something with a little more Canadian flavour it would be really interesting to see a video on Louis Riel.

I don't know if this is helpful at all, but the images used at the end to talk about the ruins of Panama and how it was never rebuilt are wrong. That is still Fuerte San Lorenzo in Colon, in the Atlantic side. The city of Panama (now called Panama Viejo, or Old Panama), were in the Pacific side. I just wonder why you didn't use actual images of Panama Viejo. Also, it has been confirmed now (in fact, a few years ago) that it was the governor of Panama who ordered the city be burned down rather than see it fall into the hands of Morgan.

So the difference between a pirate and a privateer is the privateer became one by being the most dominant pirate 😂

Us welsh seemed to be good at piracy lol. Bartholomew Roberts the dread pirate. Or black Bart was probably the most successful pirate that there ever was. And legend has it he never killed anyone lol.

Still don't consider him a Pirate because of how the British Crown acted to the accusation: - They promoted Morgan as high up the chain as they could! - Morgan went 'off his marc' regularly, but that could have been the intent from the very beginning. A thin veneer of legal protection for the British court, so a well positioned Crown Agent wouldn't be accidently hanged by one of the Crown's own governors. As long as Morgan continued to weaken the Spanish position in the region then it doesn't matter to the Crown how he did so.... That being said: I still consider him one of the greatest Admirals, as not many of those can also take a city via an over-land campaign.
