Summer Cleanup and walk around on my 1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88. Talking about how this really nice 2 owner Delta 88 almost got scrapped at the Junk yard. Thankfully the Junk yard thought it was too nice and put it up for sale for 2800.00

Someone loved this car it's whole life, then the junkyard did the right thing. Warms my heart. I dig the crank windows and CB.

Nice save. I recently bought a 89 custom cruiser for 1500 in Westminster Maryland, it popped up while on a trip, and had to have it. New tires, then drove back to San Antonio tx. Great cars, it’s my first Oldsmobile.

I've had 2 of this model. First was a 1980 with 92,000 miles in 1992. I had that car for 5 years . Then I had a 1984. The real difference was the 80 had no overdrive, just a 3 speed. The 84 had the 4 spd with automatic overdrive. I'd definitely get another one. Both had 307s and were very reliable. I had the 84 until around 2005. I sure wish I didn't trade them.

1984 was a very good year for Delta 88. 1985s looked identical but were severely cheapened up. So many years left in that car. So glad it was saved.

Yeah I can’t believe this was almost crushed. Glad the guy at the yard didn’t have the heart to do it and put it up for sale instead. Also interesting about the 85. I’ve been in about every year except that one. I have wondered what it was like as the delta continued the full sized rwd that year. I’ve been in an 85 Regency, but that line moved over to the new front wheel drive mid sized like sedan.

Nice car!! Great find!! I had an 82 Delta 88 2 door I bought for $200 in 2002, it was rusty with a locked up engine, but I got it to part it out, I wanted the transmission, carb, misc. items, I sold the rims for $200 and scrapped the rest of it. It had the chrome Olds Ralley wheels on it, they were real nice, selling those made all the other parts I got out of it free to me!!!
@MangieRaccoonsGarage
@MangieRaccoonsGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Nice! :D them rally wheels were a rare option on the delta too. Glad you were able to get some use out of it and get them parts to someone instead of the junk yard. I miss when these cars were that cheap. I bought a 1980 back then for 800 bucks, I loved that car! And it was only 20 bucks to fill it up back then too hehehe

Two years ago I found a near mint condition 1991 Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenue mark cross edition on marketplace in a city next door to me listed for 1,000$. Seller claimed it needed a fuel injection pump. Went and looked at it and said will you take 750$? He said 850$ take it or leave it. I said I’m not gonna cry over 100$. Put some fuel system treatment in it. A new battery and off we went back home. It was a estate sale item that had sat in a little old lady’s garage for 4 years and the family just wanted it gone. It had 106,000 miles on it when I got it. Guy said if I didnt buy it he was gonna scrap it at the end of the week!! Crazy! Been a lovely car but unfortunately it’s now needing a new transmission. But I’m gonna fix it up because it’s worth it to preserve history in my opinion. Congratulations on your Oldsmobile royal! Love these fisher bodies too!

I was so close to buying a 1984 Delta 88 Royale Brougham coupe brand new (about $14,000); it was a special order vehicle that the buyer decided not to purchase. It was black with the grey velour interior and it also had the astro roof. Instead, I bought a used 1979 Trans Am for $5,000 ($116 per month at Crocker Bank) that proved to be a fantastic car! In 2017 I bought a 1984 Buick LeSabre Limited coupe with 67,242 miles for $1,900 from Copart in Iowa. It was preserved in a barn for sixteen years!

The door Striker pins need plastic liners replaced. I use PEX pipe it's plumbing pipe you unscrew the pin take the washer off cut off a piece of plastic pipe slip it on put the washer back on and screw it back into the same spot where the paint is and the doors are closed much better they won't jiggle anymore. All GM cars had the striker pin would lose their plastic sleeve. I'd only run non-synthetic oil and non-ethanol gasoline. And remove the catalytic converter. Standard regimen I do to all my '70s Cadillacs
@MangieRaccoonsGarage
@MangieRaccoonsGarage Жыл бұрын
That's a brilliant idea with the pex for the striker pin! I'll have to do that :D Yeah, the non ethanol is much better. Thankfully there is a gas station here that can get it, crazy how much more expensive it is.

@MangieRaccoonsGarage
@MangieRaccoonsGarage Жыл бұрын
The owner who owned it since 1985 went into assisted living and asked his friend to sell the car. His friend called the junk yard and said he had a old junk car to get picked up. When the guy at the junk yard picked up the car he though it was too nice to junk, so the junk yard listed it for sale. Guess is the case of one man's trash another man's treasure.

I was so upset when that dent happened :/ the headliner hasn't been replaced yet. It's all original still and only has 2 small spots starting to sag. But that is a great idea! Someday probably will need to do the headliner and get that fixed. Also need to see if I can glue that tear in the top.
